I'm hopeful, but concerned he won't be the same (physically and / or mentally). I think the Giants need to go WR in round 1, 2 or 3. It seems as if Cooper or White are still available at #9 we need to grab them and get OL and DE/LB in rounds 2 and 3.

RE: I think it is a little premature to be optimistic right now
However, I'm sure we are all encouraged by what we are hearing from Cruz so far.
And BBI ejaculates prematurely so many times there isn't anyone that believes they are good BBI lovers anymore. That said... I am so confident that this kid will come back strong, that I say 95% with the age factor included.
This kid is gonna work his ass off, ad I believe in him.
And as a Giant fan, I hope I am correct in my assessment.
Joe, as I've said far too many times, if this was a standard Patellar repair, he should be at 100%..Since I haven't read or seen anything to the contrary, I will assume it was standard..
If there were other structures involved, we're now talking a more complex procedure..In that case, I'd give it a 6
Not sure why everyone is so worried. I have seen players shred their knees in January and be ready for training camp. With modern surgery knee injuries are not what they used to be. Victor is going to thrive with single coverage in the slot this year.
Are you mentally ill? You can go through life as a glass is half full and be miserable, I'll go through life as a half full guy and enjoy my brief moment in the space and time continuum. The only thing that got me whatever success I've had is in a large part to optimism
I hope to be pleasantly surprised but I am not really very optimistic. The last productive year he had was 2012. I know injury and the sorry state of the Giants in 2013 did not help matters. Unless he is back at close to 100%...He is really "just a guy" back there.
I will be surprised if the Giants do not go WR at some point between round 1 and 3.
He will be ready for training camp IMO. The kid is working his ass off. If he can get running and conditioned, then work back timing with Eli, I think he will be productive at worst.
need to go into this season reserving a roster spot for Cruz, but planning as if he will not play. Then, if he can play it is pure upside/gravy for us.
If we go into camp relying on Cruz's health and ability to return to form then it is like leaving the house without an umbrella when there is a 90% chance of rain.

Agreed. I hold out little hope based on what we've seen with many of our former players. I'd look to draft a top receiver, in fact. If Cruz makes it back, it's fantastic. If not, we'll be ready.
not very optimistic he can come back, and return to his former level. His game is based on shiftiness. The injury may rob him of enough of that so that he isn't really effective anymore.
they aren't going to rely on Cruz. They are going to build the best team possible with or without him being ready.
The draft comes well before he's fully back anyway so Cruz's health likely has no impact at all on who we take at #9, which is the only pick where the value may be in overwhelming favor of WR if Cooper/White are there.
I think he'll heal up pretty well but who the heck knows. The good news is that OBJ will draw all the attention from him and RR and VC will have single coverage.
Cruz is a hard worker with solid character. If the leg holds up, even with some loss of quickness, he should still be a solid player. I don't think the knack for big play making is entirely physical. Some guys just step up and make big plays in big games. Cruz was a playmaker when he came into the league and I think he's got some more big moments in his career.
of what he was in 2011, this passing attack could be the best in the league. I have said all along I think the Giants will be cautious and ease him back into things. He might start training camp on the PUP, and if he does BBI should not freak out. Cautious is good in this case. Cruz is an asset and you don't want to cause any setbacks.

80%?? really? do you have any idea how thin the margin is between excelling in this league and getting cut? 80% of his ability will get him watching the NFL from his couch on Sundays. We seriously need like 97% of the old Cruz or we need a new WR...period.
Well, I was never pessimistic about myself. I knew what I was capable of and did it. OTOH, if I had just had eye surgery and was taking meds for Parkinson's, I might have had to rely on optimism. But that would be the kind of dentist you'd like working on you, right? :)
He wasn't a burner in the first place, and the guy is probably the hardest worker these doctors have ever seen. If they say he can rehab it back to full strength, I believe them, and he's just the guy to do it.
Do not think he ought to be counted on this year -- he's recovering from a devastating injury that cannot be rushed. And when he does come back, he's not going to be the Cruz of '11. That's why a new additional star WR is needed in this draft.

What a shocker
I felt the same way about this point but then I saw who it was by and it got even more...meaningless?

I hope I am wrong.
