What do YOU suggest we do at safety?

OBJesus : 4/9/2015 6:15 pm
You'd have to be a psycho to trot out 2 guys with a combined 0 career starts especially when they're not even high potential guys, so what do you do? Anyone left in UFA is pretty much a career back up that everyone here will be trashing by week 2 if we threw him into a full time starters role, that Gipson guy from the browns is really good but he's an RFA with a 2nd round tender I think so he might be tough to get, I was really hoping we'd go all in this off-season in attempts to make one final push in the home stretch of the Eli/Coughlin era but we seem like a team playing it tentatively and already prepping for the future as opposed to putting the best roster we can put on the field this year, Eli could have been a dynasty QB if we didn't waste half his career putting together mediocre rosters and relying on him to piggy back it, sad...

maybe the Giants will
Giantsfan79 : 4/9/2015 6:29 pm : link
1. Draft one or two.

2. Sign another couple of undrafted free agents (the Giants may be more desirable to UDFAs because of the lack of depth.)

3. Move some of the teams extra corners to safety.

4. monitor the waiver wire and sign some cheap vets over the summer.

5. address the need next year.

Just a few options to consider
If the Giants draft one or two to play safety,
wgenesis123 : 4/9/2015 6:35 pm : link
they would have 0 career NFL starts at safety.
so basically trot out 2 scrubs
OBJesus : 4/9/2015 6:36 pm : link
And neautralize possibly the biggest strength on our team (our corners) if that's the way it goes down I can't wait to watch our offense take it to the next level average over 30 points a game.. And still go 6-10 :'(

Why is it every year Reese picks a position and is like "alright guys, this position.. no longer matters, just stick anybody in there.. I think my aunt might be available"
At this point
LakeGeorgeGiant : 4/9/2015 6:37 pm : link
If it were my decision I would target Derron Smith in the 3rd and Adrian Amos later. Let the cream rise to the top in camp.

I also like Ibraheim Campbell as a SS but he won't last beyond 4 imo. Not sure Id want to spend a 3rd and 4th on safeties.
well unless
OBJesus : 4/9/2015 6:37 pm : link
We can manage to hit on 2 safties in the draft to come in and make an immediate impact (highlyyy unlikely I'm afraid) that would be a very bold and unwise move
I see where you are going OB
LakeGeorgeGiant : 4/9/2015 6:39 pm : link
but the fact is there aren't a lot of options for safety right now. We are going to have to settle for lack of experience and try to find some talent.
I suggest we ignore all your threads

Because our saftey position is in a god awful state right now and I prefer my team not to have gigantic weaknesses that every team in the league can have a field day with....? What a troll I am
do people here even wanna talk football
OBJesus : 4/9/2015 6:54 pm : link
Or just call everyone they don't agree with (or doesn't agree with the teams management) a troll? If so whats the point of these forums? So we can come to bow down to the amazing job we do going sub 500
WITH a top tier QB lmao
OBJesus : 4/9/2015 6:55 pm : link
That's hard to do....
I'd expect the Giants to
giantgiantfan : 4/9/2015 7:12 pm : link
resign Stevie Brown after the draft to get some sort of veteran presence back in there. Currently the Giants are sitting tight and hoping a top talent drops in the draft, but even if we got a guy we had rated as a late 1 in the 2nd or 2nd in the 3rd/4th...I still think they should grab Stevie Brown or a guy they like better.
Duct tape and lots of it
mrvax : 4/9/2015 7:14 pm : link
Every time Cooper Taylor/Taylor Cooper get injured, you take him up and send him right back out there.

Throw Behre out there with him and tell 'em both, "well boys, it's either sink or swim."

Problem solved.
stevie would help the problem at SS a LITLLE
OBJesus : 4/9/2015 7:16 pm : link
But we still don't even have one FS on the roster, heading into the draft in that type of situation scares the ever loving hell out of me

I'd rather have the pot smoker than Stevie Brown. No, seriously.
I suggest we draft LARGE athletes and teach them to play rather

2 unproven, nobody strong safties, neither of which can cover well, or play free safety (obviously)

CC Brown/James Butler 2.0

We'll have the best starting corner tandem in the league and still have the 32nd ranked pass D lol
Sign a veteran S, draft two of them, and get a couple OFAs.
Red Dog : 4/9/2015 7:57 pm : link
Not much else they can do. Sign Stevie Brown or Miles or somebody like them, draft one on the second day, and another on the third day, and bring in one or two OFAs at the position.

They still need at least three more guys because Behre will probably be the only one of the three they have right now still on the active roster on opening day. Taylor will be back on IR and Gordon will be back at his real world job.

The only other possible route would be to trade for a quality veteran, but that would involve giving up a draft pick or picks. Come to think of it, they blow so many draft picks that maybe this isn't such a bad idea after all.
What are some of
JonC : 4/9/2015 7:59 pm : link
your previous handles?

They'll draft one, continue to try and add a young ascending vet, eg, Miles, if his price drops, and the young dudes on the roster are going to get some serious burn.

Don't know if you are being sarcastic or not; but remember any position is an injury away from a "backup" taking over. Cooper is healthy now. He is a player who was an alternate All American as a freshman @ Geo Tech and All American as a senior @ Richmond. He shined at the East West Game Shrine game (see what I did there?). At 6'4" 228 he has the potential to be another Cam Chancellor. Spags must be drooling. I think he has the credentials equal to of any day 2 or 3 draft options (and I don't want a S @ 9.)
BTW I'd love to see the "Missile" duplicate on defense what he showed on special teams. Although between them they have 0 starts, I'm less worried about safety than the ability of the OL to participate in the run game. (Which we should try to solve w/ #9)
And yes, I do believe in the tooth fairy.
Here
AcidTest : 4/9/2015 8:06 pm : link
are your realistic options:

Resign Stevie Brown.
Sign another vet FA.
Convert Bennett Jackson to S.
Draft one of Josh Shaw, Jaquiski Tartt, Adrian Amos, Durell Eskridge, or Doran Grant.

My guess is it's Brown, Jackson, and one of the potential draftees. They'll probably also get a UDFA S after the draft.
question???
Gmen108021 : 4/9/2015 8:16 pm : link
why does EVERYONE on this board say troll or drop a ban hammer on this guy when someone makes a post. I for one totally agree. our safety position is awful. to say we have anmy more than backup quality is laughable. we dont know what we have at the position and imo reese does every year negelct a position of serious need. LB is usually horribly neglected. its still borderline neglected. BBI stop like attacking every poster except the known ones. ANYONE and EVERYONE should be allowed and feel comfortable posting on this forum. unless its an outrageous bs post thats an obvious troll just let it be. if you think its a dumb post or a dumb question dont respond.
that being said i agree with the poster safety is scary. i expect em to add two in this draft one of which will be in first 3 rounds IMO
Easy
SGMen : 4/9/2015 8:22 pm : link
1. Re-sign veteran FS Stevie Brown
2. Re-sign veteran FS Will Demps (specials)
3. Draft a Safety

Hope our youngsters are ready to start.
There really isn't much in the way of veteran help unless we make a draft day trade. Which we may.

I am being sarcastic & frustrated also. I'd like to see what these 2 young guys are capable of. IMO, if he guy can't start by year 3, it's time to turn over the roster at his position. I think the 2 guys would be fine and get better as the season progresses.

whats wrong with that? does jennings give you a hard on? guy was hurt for most of season and when played was solid but we havent had a game changer at RB in a while...dont get me wrong i loved AB and jacobs...but they were a part of a solid offensive team mainly in trenches. shit if we trade bnack in first round i much rather landon collins at safety but if we took gurley you wont see me crying at all lol. that being said i doubt it happens but still its someones opinion. this board is supposed to be fans throwing around ideas whether trade or draft...this game for FANS is supposed to be fun. people to serious on this board. i get if the guy is a 24/7 trolling d bag but one or two wild ideas...yea no an issue IMO

In 2007, under Spags we started one game with Michael Johnson (a 7th round rookie) and Craig Dahl (an undrafted rookie) at S. Both Butler and Wilson were out injured that game.

Beat the Eagles in that game on way to super bowl. You don't need 53 all pros to win in NFL.

You need a little bit of luck and the right team chemistry. All these athletes are world class.

So because we won 1 game 8 years ago with back up safties it's a good idea to roll through a whole season starting back up safties? The CC browns of the world can cost even great teams their season, you're team is only as good as the worst player on the field cause that's all it takes for any given play to end up in complete disaster, one guy not doing his job, also we've subscribed to your theory for years and years with our LBs, how's that worked out? We do the same things over and over, we never build a balanced roster (a GMs one fucking job) and we wonder why were sitting at home every year when the playoffs roll around, this is exactly the kind of thinking that has wasted half of Eli's career "oh we'll manage... or we'll just completely suck, either way no big deal" I mean why would we have any sense of urgency to put the best roster we can put on the field this year with a 34 year old QB and a 70 year old HC, great time to play it tentatively (and recklessly)
im sorry but
OBJesus : 4/10/2015 7:16 am : link
I can't get over the theory of "theyre all world class athletes" so what? They're not all good football players on a professional level, in fact many are quite bad (I can't believe I actually have to lay that out) no team full of scrubs ever won anything, no shit it doesn't take 22 all pros but you need good players and enough solid players to not have any glaring weakness that teams can feast on, that's what separates the good teams from the bad more times than not, we had one of the best corner tandems in the league last year when healthy we gave up a QB rating of 29 outside the hash marks, yet because of a few scrub players our pass D overall was trash because we gave up a QB rating of 120 in the middle of the field and teams realized they could just relentlessly attack us there over and over and over again and there wasn't a damn thing we could do about it, but hey let's keep trying what we've been doing the last few years it's worked out well
yep
aquidneck : 4/10/2015 7:21 am : link
Sit tight. Will Hill is not playing safety for NYG this year. Guys currently on the team will be given a chance to develop. A rookie will be drafted. Someone signed as a FA. Two guys will start at safety for Giants come September.

Every team in the NFL is in a similar position with regard to one squad on their team or another. Nonetheless, two teams will play in the super bowl in February.
Don't use any? :-)
