Greg described Ray as a Kamikaze player that plays with an unbelievable amount of competitiveness and a bit of nasty. You can tell watching him that he doesn’t like getting beat and comes back stronger. Ray is a quick twitch guy with natural explosive traits. He looked bigger than his listed weight when you watched him on tape. Greg thinks Ray could line up at DE. Ray was often moved inside to rush against guards and he killed guards. Ray has an explosive first step and he uses his hands well and he loves how he plays. Ross (Tucker) chimed in about some of Ray’s bad numbers at his Pro Day. Ross said he doesn’t know Ray’s ceiling but that at a minimum he could be a 6 – 9 sack guy and a lot of teams would take that. Greg added that teams would have to factor in his extreme competitiveness. Ross agreed and they both talked about Ray having the sort of motor and competitiveness you can’t develop. Ross said guys don’t develop toughness or competitiveness or a motor, they either have it or they don’t. Says guys don’t develop a work ethic after they get paid millions of guaranteed dollars. Greg added that he has talked to many long time scouts who say you can make guys stronger but you can’t make them more athletic. |
...from the get-go.
Any alternative would be another point of attack player on either side of the ball.
But never a WR at 9.
Never.
A whole lotta BBIers don't realize how weak the team is upfront.
The weakest in the NFL.
How much weaker do you want to be?
Probably
Initial: La'el Collins
Now: Randy Gregory (but I am still making my mind up on him, could change as more info comes out)
+ 1
1-You can tell watching him that he doesn’t like getting beat and comes back stronger.
2-Greg added that teams would have to factor in his extreme competitiveness.
With the signing of Ellis it becomes a totally wasted pick for 2015.
White/Cooper/Beasley/Peat/LSU Collins/Scherf in that order.
I only prefer White to Cooper because of the different from OBJ skillset that he brings.
Peat allows Pugh to LG now and takes over from Beatty in a few years. Both Collins and Scherf allow Pugh to LG now, but stay at RT.
Kinda acted like a punk .
Giants could have 3-4 players slotted at #9
I could see them trading down .
I don't want a part-time specialist with the #9 pick.
I don't want a part-time specialist with the #9 pick.
Hey Bob, always great to see you posting..I too obviously know mothing about Ray or anyone else beyond what I've learned..In general, I couldn't agree more with your point(s), but when Cosell talks, I listen..Intently
Sheesh I would hope not..But fortunately, it's all positive toward that end with Cosell..:)
Now, Randy Gregory.
Gregory can flat out play DE. The Giants have a strong history of successfully working with players who have substance abuse issues. Sure, the record isn't 100% success stories, but it is very strong.
Regarding Collins, I've only gained more confidence in him. However, there is good value on the OL available in Rounds 2 & 3. I would have to pass on Collins if Gregory were available.
I still would pick Amari Cooper or Kevin White over anyone, especially Cooper. I don't think either will be available. The NFL is largely a copycat league. Ironically, Beckham's success (and others, but mostly Beckham) will lead many teams to prioritize WR over other positions. The Raiders will almost certainly pick a WR (or Gurley, I think) and I feel pretty certain one other team in the top 8 will as well. So, no Cooper or White at 9.
In that case, I want Gregory if he is available!
Fun thread, thank you.
Gregory is the top Pass Rusher in this class who can take over games, no way do you let him get past you if he is there at 9.
I feel confident the Giants can straighten the kid out, he doesn't have a bad track record/ history, to me it just seems immaturity which I think Gregory has admitted himself. If any team can straighten this kid out it is the Giants with Coughlin, and e is just way to good to pass up, I never thought we had a chance at him.
Hopefully Cooper but Parker would be fine.
Bowen (Bleacher Report): Which Prospects Have Scouts Buzzing in Run-Up to NFL Draft?
"Brandon Scherff, OT/OG, Iowa Scherff has been a first-round prospect since the beginning of the 2014 college season, but the scouts I talk to now see him as a going 10th-15th overall, especially after he put his athletic ability on display at Iowa's pro day in the change-of-direction testing."
Thanks Defenderdawg for this
Since the first two figure to be gone, I'm looking at Peat and then Scherff.
Now I think Peat makes the most sense as we have no depth at tackle and Peat is a pure tackle
I don't want us to take a skill position player as they have the most risk and the shortest NFL lifespan
Jon, as an aside, would you be in favor of a trade-up for Williams or would the cost be too prohibitive given we need all the picks we can get..And out of curiosity what do you think it would take to get him?
I've noticed that as well..Good point
Really like Devante. Would mesh well with Cruz and Odell.
I would be in favor of a trade down if none of the following are available:
Williams
Cooper
Beasley
DFJ
Scherff
White
Now - Shane Ray/Randy Gregory (if both there then Ray)
I still think trading down is a realistic option based on the way this draft is set up. If Cooper/White is available at 9 I would sell this pick off to the highest bidder. Corner is another position where we are relatively strong and this draft is relatively weak. It's possible someone wants to move up and grab Waynes.
If we stay put, I want one of the pass-rushers. I agree that OL is a huge need for us as well, but I feel we can still get a starter at 40. If you look at our defensive personnel there is a serious lack of talent. Also, our best player, who is wildly inconsistent is playing on a franchise tag. DLINE FIRST PICK.
Would be very happy with either. As much as i would like a pass rusher, I think the 3-4 guys are really risky at #9
