The first rock-and-roll concert I ever went to was The Who. It was in 1976 at the old Capital Center in Landover, Maryland just after "The Who By Numbers" album came out. The Who kick off their latest (and last?) North American tour tonight in Tampa and almost 40 years from when I first saw them I will be taking my 16 year old son to see them tonight; he is the same age as I was back then. Looking forward to sharing this experience with him.
Pete Townsend is a psycho on stage.
When you think of guys in their 60s and 70s doing what they're doing it's pretty awesome. Most guys at that age are barely able to get out of their Lay-Z-Boy.
(I was pretty young for the first farewell show, and the Tommy reunion tour had a huge ensemble, and the 1997 Quadrophenia show had too many guest performances to be a legit Who show, IMO)
One tour I wish I went to was them with Jimmy Page & the Black Crowes in 2000. That must have been awesome.
I met Townshend twice in thee 90s and had him sign the Cd booklet to my favorite album of all time...All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes.
And I saw them backstage at MSG in mid 2000s. Hung out with their famous manager, Bill Curbishley, and we told stories (I knew them from all the books), for two hours.
Herman's Hermits.
Hard to believe now.
