NFT: What are your top 5 video games of all time?

superspynyg : 4/15/2015 2:07 pm
Can be any system (nes, PS, standing arcade, etc) and can be any genre (sports, roll player, strategy, etc). Not franchise has to be the exact game ( like Madden 12)

Mine:
1 Civ II (PS 2)
2 Ghengis Kahn,(nes)
3 SNK Baseball Stars (nes)
4 Medevil ( nes)
5 Starwars trilogy ( arcade. You sat down in a cockpit)

honorable mentions were Marvel vs Capcom 2 and NBA Jam (arcade for both)
Easy
Greg from LI : 4/15/2015 2:12 pm : link
Pac Man
Pitfall
Paperboy
Donkey Kong
Q-Bert
Sim City (the series)
Rocky369 : 4/15/2015 2:14 pm : link
Final Fantasy (the series)

that's more than 5.
Tough question, here are my own favorites
Moondawg : 4/15/2015 2:15 pm : link
Off the top of my head, not in any particular order:

Skyrim (modded, PC)
TV Sports Basketball and TV Sports Football (tie) (Amiga)
Fallout 3 (only played on Xbox)
Diablo II (PC)
Battlefield 3 or 4, for a competitive game,(Xbox and PC)

So many other good games.

Mike Tysons Punch Out- NES
TECMO SB- SNES
TES: Morrowind (PC)
TES: Oblivion (PC)
Sid Mier's Civilization II (PC)

Skyrim is frickin' awesome, but IMO they've dumbed down the stats/skills too much and the game world is just too dreary.

Morrowind is still my favorite especially with the Graphics extender and other upgrade mods. Can't wait until Skywind is released/stable/playable.

Last official word was back in July when they said alpha was almost ready.

Rumors are it will be released sometime before the end of this year.

Hard to really tell with volunteers/freeware/labor of love, tho.

Thanks, Cam.

I hope it happens. The KOTOR II restoration project was such an amazing fan-produced labor of love that fixed the game.

I hope this one comes through too.

That reminds me: KOTOR I and II should be in the discussion.

And Gridiron! (Amiga).

i think I have to do two lists: one of my five favorite games - for sentimental reasons, because I'm a sucker for certain narrative tropes, because of things the developer tried to do that turned out kinda hanky but I appreciated anyway - and another list of the five games I've played that people would generally consider the greatest.

My list:
Final Fantasy X - the game that awakened me to the world of RPGs, and more generally to genres other than sports and racing.
Crusader Kings II - The perfect blend of grand strategy, historical fiction and choose-your-own-adventure.
Yakuza 3/4 - I can't pick one without the other. Take GTA, get rid of the cars, add a heaping spoonful of Japanese soap opera and beat-me-up combat.
NieR - the saddest game I've ever played in my life, with the best, most ridiculous twist, and developers who never took no for an answer. Sure, it's a traditional Japanese ARPG at its roots, but hidden in there is a side-scrolling platformer, several bullet-hell bosses, a goddamn text adventure (!), my favorite implementation of New Game Plus... Oh, and one of the best video game soundtracks of all time.
Persona 4 The Golden - I bought a Vita to play this game, and even if I never bought another game for the Vita it would still be worth it.

"Consensus" list (taking into account opinions other than mine, but still limited to games I've played):
Persona 4 The Golden
Ocarina of Time
Super Mario 64
Xenoblade Chronicles
Final Fantasy VII

I'm currently playing Pillars of Eternity, which has an outside chance to make both of these lists... It's still early but I've put in about 20 hours and have yet to find fault with any of it.
Yeah, Pillars is pretty freaking great so far.
Enoch : 4/16/2015 8:00 pm : link
I've got some quibbles (the skill system; low joinable-NPC variety; some likely-to-be-patched balance and player-feedback issues), but I'm super-satisfied with having backed it at a few multiples of the retail price.
