NFT: Knicks and wolves both about to lose

djm : 4/15/2015 10:17 pm
Knicks will finish with the second worst record.

It could be worse. I think they can't pick any worse than 5th. Hopefully they pick top 4. I guess it's a 4 player draft but I believe many feel it's a 5 player draft?

We'd all sign up for this high of a pick so let's hope it works out in the end... This long terrible year is finally over. At least they got a high pick out of it.

Carmelo said he knew something was off with his knee as soon as first or second game if the season, but was afraid to get it fully examined
Melo fan here, but I don't see how Melo would be any better a choice

to try to recruit people than a guy with two rings as a player and 11 as a coach. If there's a player out there that doesn't want to listen to Phil, then I'd question the player.

Probably just having the best player on the team there to answer questions about it from a player's perspective. What's Phil/Derek like? Those kinds of things...
I'm more positive about this draft than some appear to be.

I'd be happy with any of the top 6 players (non-European), although it would be a massive disappointment to have been this shitty and not even get a top 2 pick out of it.

Melo, asked abt viability of triangle, says personnel is more important than scheme. Suggests tm needs better midrange shooters & slashers

Chris Herring ‏@HerringWSJ 10m10 minutes ago
Melo was asked abt who he likes in the draft class. Said he wasn't even sure if he was allowed to discuss that. But thinks class is talented

Al Iannazzone ‏@Al_Iannazzone 9m9 minutes ago
Melo wants Phil to get "Players. Good players."

Jonah Ballow ‏@jonahballow 9m9 minutes ago
Melo: "My office probably looks like a GMs office right now.

He added, Im very in tune with that."

Ian Begley ‏@IanBegley 8m8 minutes ago
Carmelo says he has faith in the triangle offense. Says it can work if #Knicks add talent to the roster. May read as a slight but it wasn't

Chris Herring ‏@HerringWSJ 8m8 minutes ago
Asked Melo whether it might be tougher to adjust to playing w rookie PG. He laughs, "What you mean by that?!"

Chris Herring ‏@HerringWSJ 7m7 minutes ago
Then Melo delves into more serious tone & says PG is probably the toughest position for a rookie to establish himself in, 4 several reasons

Jonah Ballow ‏@jonahballow 7m7 minutes ago
Melo: If Russ made the playoffs, he probably would have been my pick for MVP."

Chris Herring ‏@HerringWSJ 7m7 minutes ago
Melo, on who deserves MVP: "I think James [Harden]." But then mentions Steph, before saying he would've said Russ had he made playoffs.

Chris Herring ‏@HerringWSJ 4m4 minutes ago
To people who are asking about exit interviews: From my understanding, Melo is/was the only person media was speaking with today.

Marc Berman ‏@NYPost_Berman 4m4 minutes ago Greenburgh, NY
Carmelo says thinks it's best draft class in a few years and indicated because of cap space to not trade it.

Remember all that nonsense last year about Rose when Melo was visiting. Meanwhile Frank Isola instead of reporting what Melo is saying, he is ripping Phil jackson because melo said he was going to help recruit, also said Melo cant recruit because melo didnt sign with the Knicks when he was a free agent...

Um Frank, Melo was only on the team when Lebron was a free agent once and the Knicks had no cap space...

Last year, Phil wanted Carmelo to fix the cap. This year, recruit free agents. Why not just make Melo the GM. You save money & no triangle

psyched about the future of the Knicks, even moreso than in 2010, because at least now I know we have our first round picks from 2017 on. Hopefully Jackson and Mills continue to value their draft picks and hang on to them. We also are in really good cap shape and I can't fathom that Jackson is going to overpay for middling guys. Add that to the expected increase in the cap and I feel like we're going to be players in every off-season for the foreseeable future.
the way Mills and Jackson make it sound
nygiants16 : 4/16/2015 1:20 pm : link

Yeah I got that sense, too. I think the notion that Phil's just making a money grab here is a little ridiculous. Sounds like he and his staff doing their homework. He said he wanted to starters in FA - hope it's Monroe and a guard. Add in Melo and a draft pick and we'll be on the right track.

Italianju : 4/16/2015 1:26 pm : link
we had a good shot at Lebron, but i have to agree that im more excited now then i have been in awhile. We not only have a ton of capspace we also have a top 5 pick, thats about as good of a combo as you can hope for in the NBA. Especially when you factor in we also have an established superstar. The only thing that would have been nice was if we had some young up and coming players, like if THJR didnt regress all year.
Also the talk of
nygiants16 : 4/16/2015 1:27 pm : link
Mills and the scouting department doing a lot of overseas work was interesting, and the talk of other scouts following them to see who they were looking at...

Also did anyone else get the sense after hearing Monroe and his agent talk that the rumors are true he is going to sign with the Knicks...With the comments from him saying i plan to talk to the Knicks as soon as i can, and his agent saying this is going to be a quick process wont drag out...just seems to me they know the Knicks offer
I also wouldnt be shocked

are dear to his heart. This is where his NBA journey began. Money is nice but think about it... screwing up here can only hurt his legacy, not enhance it.
I think Monroe's a done deal, too.
bceagle05 : 4/16/2015 1:39 pm : link
Agreed about the young guys - Cleanthony Early was horrific this year, and Hardaway and Larkin aren't much better. It would've been nice if just one of those three joined Galloway as legit rotation players next year and beyond.

One other positive I take from this is guys like Shved and Calderon saying they want to stick around and see this through. Perhaps it's just good PR to say it, but it does seem like these guys enjoyed playing for Fisher. They certainly kept competing for him. So I guess that bodes well.
calderon could have been told...
Italianju : 4/16/2015 1:43 pm : link
that if they cant trade him they will cut him and spread his cap money out. Considering the cap will be moving up a ton moving forward it prolly makes more sense to grab the extra 3-4 mill this year (I cant remember exactly how much it would save).
Shane Larkin blows
AnotherGiantsFan : 4/16/2015 1:44 pm : link
Calderon looks done at this point, but maybe he'd be able to put a guy like Mudiay under his wing if we were to draft him. That's about all you can hope for out of a 35 year old PG or however old he is.

Just sign Monroe to the max, and take some calculated risks on guys who can make that next jump. We don't need to walk out of this free agency with 2 max players.

If Phil gets someone to take that contract without anything terrible in return, he deserves an award. When you consider his age and the money remaining, that's not an easy guy to move IMO.

to shit all over the Knicks. Ummm Frank we get it that Knicks have been a sucky embarrassment for the better part of 15 years now. We follow the team, we have lived it. we don't need you banging us over the head with it every second of the day. The hope is going forward that Phil can change this. He has a chance to take a huge step in the right direction this off season. It's his first real shot. How about we analyze possible moves as opposed to shitting all over him before he gets to take a step. The little bitch whines for years that the front office has shut him out, and then when he gets the chance to cover the team and turn the page, all he can do is rip everyone in site. hmmm wonder why his access is limited. I'm sure they are dying to read all of his positive take on their maternity leave policy or how the Garden treats the ushers. idiot. I would use his useless drivel to line my bird cage but don't want to insult my bird...
The only bright side I can think of is that perhaps THJr. eruption

huh? You don't have to give the player a player option. It can just be a straight 4 year deal.

Of course it can be but what i am saying a normal deal is 3 years with the 4th year a player option...

Most deals in the NBA the final year is a player option...

Most deals are either 3 yeasrs with 4th option or 4 year 5th option...

Depends on the player. Plenty of guys sign max or large deals without player options. Saying "That would be his offer no matter what" simply isn't true. Any team trying to sign him would obviously prefer a straight 4 year deal.

The future of the NBA is to have rangy players that are all around the same size so they can defend multiple positions. You are seeing it with teams like the Warriors and the Bucks. Mudiay would fit that role perfectly, and I think we'll be acquiring guys who have that same ability.

teams have tried to put together teams like this for years but it's easier said than done. And if you're lucky enough to get a group of guys like this, it's harder to keep them together due to shorter contract and the tax.
