Knicks will finish with the second worst record.
It could be worse. I think they can't pick any worse than 5th. Hopefully they pick top 4. I guess it's a 4 player draft but I believe many feel it's a 5 player draft?
We'd all sign up for this high of a pick so let's hope it works out in the end... This long terrible year is finally over. At least they got a high pick out of it.
Melo to @jonahballow: Ive had multiple visions of where we are right now & where we can go & the possibilities of what we can create"
Chris Herring @HerringWSJ 28s28 seconds ago
Carmelo said he knew something was off with his knee as soon as first or second game if the season, but was afraid to get it fully examined
Probably just having the best player on the team there to answer questions about it from a player's perspective. What's Phil/Derek like? Those kinds of things...
Melo, asked abt viability of triangle, says personnel is more important than scheme. Suggests tm needs better midrange shooters & slashers
Chris Herring @HerringWSJ 10m10 minutes ago
Melo was asked abt who he likes in the draft class. Said he wasn't even sure if he was allowed to discuss that. But thinks class is talented
Al Iannazzone @Al_Iannazzone 9m9 minutes ago
Melo wants Phil to get "Players. Good players."
Jonah Ballow @jonahballow 9m9 minutes ago
Melo: "My office probably looks like a GMs office right now.
He added, Im very in tune with that."
Ian Begley @IanBegley 8m8 minutes ago
Carmelo says he has faith in the triangle offense. Says it can work if #Knicks add talent to the roster. May read as a slight but it wasn't
Chris Herring @HerringWSJ 8m8 minutes ago
Asked Melo whether it might be tougher to adjust to playing w rookie PG. He laughs, "What you mean by that?!"
Chris Herring @HerringWSJ 7m7 minutes ago
Then Melo delves into more serious tone & says PG is probably the toughest position for a rookie to establish himself in, 4 several reasons
Jonah Ballow @jonahballow 7m7 minutes ago
Melo: If Russ made the playoffs, he probably would have been my pick for MVP."
Chris Herring @HerringWSJ 7m7 minutes ago
Melo, on who deserves MVP: "I think James [Harden]." But then mentions Steph, before saying he would've said Russ had he made playoffs.
Chris Herring @HerringWSJ 4m4 minutes ago
To people who are asking about exit interviews: From my understanding, Melo is/was the only person media was speaking with today.

Carmelo says thinks it's best draft class in a few years and indicated because of cap space to not trade it.
It is the same as Wade recruiting Lebron...you think Wade recruited Lebron or Phil?
Carmelo says he understood why fans were upset about the #Knicks winning 2 of their final 3 games but said players can't be expected to lose
"You guys are really not that bad," Carmelo Anthony assured reporters.
Meanwhile Frank Isola instead of reporting what Melo is saying, he is ripping Phil jackson because melo said he was going to help recruit, also said Melo cant recruit because melo didnt sign with the Knicks when he was a free agent...
Um Frank, Melo was only on the team when Lebron was a free agent once and the Knicks had no cap space...
And that is exactly my point, Melo has relationships with these players, Phil doesnt...

That should say when Lebron was a free agent...Also said Lebron was a free agent 3 times and to my recollection he was only a free agent twice
LeBron called Carmelo one of his 3 best friends in NBA. Twice in last 5 years LeBron was a free agent...& didn't sign with Knicks. Just stop
Way to make shit up Frank
The Knicks are paying Phil Jackson $12 million per. Let him do his job and recruit free agents. Wasn't that supposed to be his great appeal?
Frank Isola @FisolaNYDN 16m 16 minutes ago
Last year, Phil wanted Carmelo to fix the cap. This year, recruit free agents. Why not just make Melo the GM. You save money & no triangle
Frank in full troll mode
And frank knows the writing is on the wall for Daily News and print newspapers. That's why he's getting his feet wet with ESPN. He's on Around the Horn every day.

He also has a morning radio show on XM
Could be quick who they sign....

Yeah I got that sense, too. I think the notion that Phil's just making a money grab here is a little ridiculous. Sounds like he and his staff doing their homework. He said he wanted to starters in FA - hope it's Monroe and a guard. Add in Melo and a draft pick and we'll be on the right track.
Also did anyone else get the sense after hearing Monroe and his agent talk that the rumors are true he is going to sign with the Knicks...With the comments from him saying i plan to talk to the Knicks as soon as i can, and his agent saying this is going to be a quick process wont drag out...just seems to me they know the Knicks offer
We may not ever see the Knicks win a title but I do believe this franchise is turning a corner and fans will enjoy good basketball sooner than later.
One other positive I take from this is guys like Shved and Calderon saying they want to stick around and see this through. Perhaps it's just good PR to say it, but it does seem like these guys enjoyed playing for Fisher. They certainly kept competing for him. So I guess that bodes well.
Just sign Monroe to the max, and take some calculated risks on guys who can make that next jump. We don't need to walk out of this free agency with 2 max players.
If Phil gets someone to take that contract without anything terrible in return, he deserves an award. When you consider his age and the money remaining, that's not an easy guy to move IMO.

That would be his offer no matter what..
Non bird offer is 3 years with a 4th year option
Brid right offer is 4 years with 5th option
Quote:
I'd expect his agent to insist on 3 years with a player option in the 4th year so he can cash in on the rising cap.

huh? You don't have to give the player a player option. It can just be a straight 4 year deal.

Of course it can be but what i am saying a normal deal is 3 years with the 4th year a player option...
Most deals in the NBA the final year is a player option...
Most deals are either 3 yeasrs with 4th option or 4 year 5th option...

Depends on the player. Plenty of guys sign max or large deals without player options. Saying "That would be his offer no matter what" simply isn't true. Any team trying to sign him would obviously prefer a straight 4 year deal.
the only big contract i remember that didnt have an option was Amar'e's contract
the only big contract i remember that didnt have an option was Amar'e's contract
Amare did in fact have a 5th year player option. Off the top of my head guys like Igoudala, Durant, Chandler, Josh Smith, Lowry, Cousins, etc. all signed big deals without player options.
haha. You need big guys too.
teams have tried to put together teams like this for years but it's easier said than done. And if you're lucky enough to get a group of guys like this, it's harder to keep them together due to shorter contract and the tax.
Or brook lopez.
Some of those guys aren't realistic targets, but I'm sure we'll go after them.
