I really want to say Bavaro, I think he would dominate in today's era where TEs don't have to worry about getting decapitated over the middle. I think he'd be pretty damn close to Gronk, and Gronk is one of the very best players in this league. And Bavaro's blocking would really help the run game as well.
But since our front 7 is the big weakness on this team, I'd go Strahan. Having him and JPP as the two ends along with Hankins/Ellis and others in the middle would just change everything for our D.
Armstead is the kind of LB'er this team has desperately needed forever. But I'd choose Stray over him.
Led the NFL in interceptions at the Wingback position in 1944, also my Great Uncle and would have loved to been able to see a family member play for my favorite sports team. Figure he would shore up our FS concerns ; )
David Megget, provides a great change of pace back and was dangerous in the passing attack. Had a good nose for the end zone, and was a dangerous punt returner if my memory serves me right.

Great all around linebacker that played for some pretty awful teams. I'd love to see him have a chance to play for a winner. Bob Tucker would look nice at Tight End too.
On some of the old timers I'm assuming size is adjusted to today's game because some of the greats back on the day would be average at best at the size they played at in today's game

If they had Tucker & Van Pelt right now it would make a huge difference. But they'd still need an O lineman, a running back and a couple of safeties, still too to except from the draft.
OK - We're presuming that in this fantasy, these historic players could produce in today's much bigger, faster, complex NFL.
Just for a moment, think of the performance it would take for a CENTER to win MVP honors in today's NFL. This would have to be an absolute cartoonish mauler, someone who is literally pancaking and driving players to the ground at the first level, opening huge holes in the second level and offering stellar pass protection ON EVERY SINGLE PLAY. PLUS, the cat runs like the wind, is a solid linebacker with EXCELLENT cover skills (reportedly the only LB in the league who could keep up with Don Hudson).
Only OL IN LEAGUE HISTORY EVER to win MVP, 15 YEARS WITHOUT MISSING A DOWN TO INJURY, was named Center for the NFL 50 year team. Was also an excellent Linebacker. First-team All-NFL center eight straight years from 1933 through 1940. He also earned second team All-NFL recognition five other times. In 1938, he was named the league's most valuable player, a rare honor for a center.
We could save a roster spot, and the guy would play center LIKE FUCKING SUPERMAN!
AND he wouldn't wear a facemask, like the pussies in today's league.
He was the only real weapon on alot of terrible Giants teams. If he was playing in his prime this year, they'd be pretty dynamic on offense. We are missing that threat of our RB breaking a long run, or taking a short pass to the house. Sure it happens a few times in a season now, but remember how many times Tiki did it in his last few years. Even though he made some douchy comments about Eli & Coughlin, he's still one of my favorite Giants of all-time. He made some great memories for me as a fan.

He had a lot more weapons around him than Rodney Hampton did. Teams sometimes would play a 9 man box against Rodney and the Giants still couldn't move the ball in the air.
vs the Past you need to match the Prime of the player with the team and game of today. That being said Jumbo Elliott would be a decent choice but not sure he would be the guy for today's NFL and pass happy attack. Strahan is nice but not sure that would be the huge difference maker on the team as it is.
I would look at these players as the best fit, in their prime for today's NFL:
1) Mark Bavaro- he would fill a huge need and would allow the Gmen to put pressure on defenses whether running or passing on offense.
2) Jesse Armstead would be a better fit today than he was back in his day. He would be an ALL-PRO LB for a defense that is sorely lacking at that position.
3) Chris Snee- would cure a lot of what ails the Giants today.
4) Jeremy Shockey- yep, JS would be a nightmare for defenses in his Prime, before the injuries et in.
5) Mark Collins- shut down CB
6) Greg Jackson and Myron Guyton- came in together and only right to add them here together.
He was a QB's nightmare,
He can stop the run,
He would be the defense's leader in Rolle's absence,
And he's played in Spag's system so wouldn't take long to learn scheme.
like Jumbo, Strahan, etc., but to be different for this team I want Jessie Armstead.
He was going to be my answer as well Chris. With modern offenses and rules that help them even more I don't think too many players from that era going backward would fit well in today's NFL but Armstead would slide right in as a 3 down LBer and defensive captain.
You couldn't go wrong with either. IMO Tiki would take the offense to another level. He would even make last years OL look good. Strahan would be nice as well, but he can't drop 20,30,40 yards deep and defend over the top so I'm gonna have to go with Tiki.
The most under rated and unappreciated RB of all time!!!
Along that level of thinking, Bart Oates as well.

He was, but fuck him.
+1000

Hilarious...
If he played today, he would have 100+ plus in a 10 year career.
Correct answer.

Was on the field on THE NEXT PLAY.

And Strahan on the defensive side.
