Has anyone watched this show? It's based off Simon Rich's short stories called "The Last Girlfriend on Earth" (haven't actually read those).
My friend kept telling me to watch it and that I'd love it, so I finally caved in. The pilot was kind of meh but comedy pilots generally suck, so I stuck with it and watched the next few episodes... and it's become one of my favorite shows on TV.
The plot is basically that Jay Barachuel plays a 27 year old guy who was dumped by his ex-gf and is trying to rebuild himself and his relationships. It's a very typical plot, but what makes the show awesome is that it takes relationship cliches and pushes them to a surreal and literal situation.
Won't ruin anything, but for example, in the first 5 minutes of the pilot the main character is set up on a blind date with his sister with a troll. The rub is that she's literally an actual troll. That wasn't one of my favorite bits, but that's just an example of the type of situations in the show.
It's getting great reviews but the ratings somewhat suck; regardless, FXX picked it up for a second season, and I'm hoping it can make it to a third.
A lot of the talk regarding the show that I've read online is that it may not survive due to a lot of the audience not "getting it" (that sounds way more condescending than I intend it to be, though I can see what they are saying since the humor is so surreal and out there), and that the show can be hit or miss because it relies on a couple of large, extended set piece jokes per episode.
Either way, I think it's fucking hilarious and one of my favorite shows on TV. Was wondering if anyone else had seen it
TV needs more shows like this where they break the mold on what a sitcom should be.
In regards to Eric Andre in a normalized role, I never really liked the Eric Andre show even though one of my roommates loves it (still can't help saying BIRD UP! though). But damn, Eric Andre is killing it in Man Seeking Woman.
The whole show is out there, so I'm not sure if it will survive, but I really hope it does. I can see it turning off a lot of people, but I really do think it's one of the most refreshingly inventive shows on TV right now.
I'm only halfway through the season and I heard it switches to his sisters perspective for an episode, so I'm interested to see how that goes.
But I gotta say, my favorite thing about the show is that it's so relatable. We've all been through those moments (well maybe some of you BBI Don Juans haven't), so it really hits me hard. It's so easy to see some of yourself in Barachuels' character.
Big Time in Hollywood FL has quickly become one of my favorite comedies. It's about as stupid a show as there is so it's not for everyone. And honestly the 2 main characters are pretty damn annoying. But the rest of the characters and feel of the show is excellent. Totally agree with Big Al about Del, that guy is a great character. And the dad is also a great character. Really liking it so far.
and Goon is one of my favorite movies. Ok that's not true, but I do like this show.
Every episode was just on point.
Pulling out Infinite Jest as a breaking point was hilarious to me.
Also, when Jay's character gets the "spiral eyes" speech from Eric Andre resonated so god damn hard with me considering I have a number of friends who are just knee deep in hot girls all the fucking time. Don't get me wrong, I'll pull a hot girl every so often and am proud of my GF track record (in the looks department at least... mental stability department is another story), but everyone has a couple friends that have spiral eyes.
