There was a lot of frustration w/ Montero once Mets got to big league parks. He shied away from what was working for him in ST.
going with a 6th man rotation. Monetro to make 2 starts in the minors and will make a start afterwards. Collins isn't saying Gee on thin ice, but hard to argue that it doesn't look that way.
is because the baseball world knew this was likely a countdown clock on top of Dillon Gee's head. The 6 man/spot start stuff downplays that only slightly.

Don't completely discount a six man rotation at times. There were rumblings in the spring of doing this as an alternative to skipping starts for guys throughout the season. Some old (Colon), frequently injured (gee, Niese) and young arms off previous TJ surgery (Harvey, DeGrom) might benefit from it.
I could see them sticking with it for as long as it takes Â

"All right, so it's just a matter of percentages, but still: The Mets are currently in a three-way tie for first place with the Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins. It's the first time the Mets have been in first place on June 4 since 2007 — on June 3 that year, by the way, Julio Franco pinch hit for Oliver Perez — and honestly, it's really rather insane. The Mets are flying high, and the strange thing is, this is starting to look less like a fluke and more like something that's potentially sustainable." .. June 2012? - ( New Window )
Very glad they kept him. Guy just knows how to pitch. It would take a crazy scenario for a guy like him to return a big prospect and for once it's nice to have a guy who you can throw out there with reckless abandon to some degree. He's like our version of Tim Wakefield.
and some people questioned him with the OD start. I loved it then and I love it more now.
Loved it too. Thought he was the perfect fit for opening day. Ill take the crafty veteran when guys are trying to impress during opening day jitters. And how did it not make sense to line up degrom and Harvey the first two days at home anyway?
I'd soooooo much rather get rid of Niese and/or Gee.
I wasn't a huge fan of the Colon signing at first but the fatty has me eating some crow. I don't think there is a player in MLB that is having more fun on the field than Colon is.
For a number 4 starter, no idea why people are ready to run him over the coals. He had an hour and half rain delay in hist first start. When has Jonathan Neise ever not been at least a quality number 4 starter?

Silly Nats and their division title aspirations just got robbed
Colon has more RBIs and a higher BA than Granderson also. Ouch!
