NFT: Female military vet using

her skills for some good.

They've been making her out to be this supreme bad-ass...

because she is holding a sniper rifle and is all tatted up, but in point of fact she is training park rangers on hygiene and sanitation. Whether she has helped further this characterization or not is debatable, but there are folks who actually do take aim at poachers, whose efforts can finance terrorism and other illicit activity.
That is

my point Dunn.

She is a good poster child.

Anything that promotes a good cause.
Good on her for bringing more attention to the cause

with her joining the group. I mean a relatively cute girl with tats holding big guns do get some attention.

With that being said, what does an army vet, who spent four years as a fire arms instructor and a mechanic know anything about anti-poaching operations to include patrolling, tracking, and intelligence operations?

Continuing with the other side of the coin ... there's almost always another side ...

On his Facebook page, former Navy SEAL Craig "Sawman" Sawyer blasted the campaign, calling it a "total fraud."

WHAT?? "Poacher Hunter"? Really? While on one hand, this girl publicly admits to only being experienced as an Army motorpool mechanic, on the other hand, she's giving interviews bragging about "doing anti-poaching" and "killing bad guys" in Africa. Why the compete contradiction? Why not just say what you are and work with that in an open and honest way?

Sawyer, a consultant and tactical trainer known for his work on TV programs such as Top Shot and Rhino Wars, was referring to statements Johnson apparently made at SHOT Show earlier this year while discussing the organization's work

[EDITOR'S NOTE: Tactical Sh*t News appears to have pulled the video of TJ Kirgin and Kinessa Johnson.]

Sawyer, a former counter-poacher team leader, said "slick-image-based" ad campaigns do damage to legitimate conservation efforts.

I'm all for any legitimate effort that helps save the endangered animals, but fake, or deceptive ad campaigns intended to sucker good-hearted people into giving money for charitable causes need to be vetted far better than they currently are.

Johnson has since walked back her hyperbolic statements.
"Our intention is not to harm anyone; we're here to train park rangers so they can track and detain poachers and ultimately prevent poaching," Johnson told 11 Alive. "Our goal is to prevent trigger pulling through strategic movements and methods of prevention."

In the post, Sawyer said his remarks were directed at the "insulting" campaign, not Johnson.

I have every confidence she's a nice girl and i wish her nothing but the best, but one tour as a motor pool mechanic in the U.S. Army and a photo shoot doesn't magically make her an elite veteran and realistically capable "Poacher Hunter."...People in Africa are cringing over this superficial campaign. It's insulting.

Exactly my sentiment regarding this being just
RC02XX : 4/17/2015 11:27 pm : link
a PR stunt than anything substantive. It's almost like a college football team consulting a one time high school JV football player rather than an NFL coach or pro for technical advisor.

Probably a unit armorer or something like that. Unless she is (or people describing her service are) conflating being a range safety or giving a BRM class via powerpoint with being a "weapons instructor." Because that would make me a weapons instructor, and I'm not one.
But I guess this is par for the course when it comes to military
RC02XX : 4/18/2015 9:15 am : link
Technical advisors. How many shitty military movies and shows have you seen where almost everything about the military, tactics, etc. were all fucked up...so much so that even a boot could pick out the mistakes? That's an indication that they just randomly hired a dude who served in the military no matter in which MOS or experience.
