NFT: Sunday Morning Mets Thread - It's Harvey Day

Gary from The East End : Admin : 4/19/2015 8:55 am
Good morning Mets fans.

Iced coffee this morning with a shot of espresso and it tastes delicious.

Seven wins in a row after some DeGrominant work the by the starter and stomach-churning outings by the back of the bullpen. Is the Gilmartin experiment coming to an end?

A base knock and a round-tripper from Flores yesterday. Looks like our shortstop is getting into a groove.

Duda and Cuddyer remain red hot, but some regression to the mean is to be expected. Doubtful that they sustain a .444 and .519 BABIP respectively throughout the season.

Granderson and Murphy are similarly ice cold with respective BABIPs of .161 and .128(!). Have to figure that balls will have to start dropping in for them sooner or later.

TDA, like the little bear's porridge, is just right. Slashing .289/.317/.526 with BABIP of .273 and a K rate of just under 10%, this could conceivably be the real, 2015 d'Arnaud, which is pretty damn exciting.

Down in the minors, Conforto hit another homer. Ho-hum.

Today, Matt Harvey brings the heat we look to break out the brooms as the good guys face the Marlins at 1:10 EDT.

Let's go Mets.

you have to give a shout out to"Soup" Campbell for stepping in for an injured David Wright and doing a real good job. Familia "forced" into the closer role and running with it
C'mon Curtis!
SuperRonJohnson : 4/19/2015 9:10 am : link
He is hitting the ball hard but they are atom balls. They will start dropping soon.
Made a last minute decision
GMenLTS : 4/19/2015 9:21 am : link
to haul my ass to Harvey day. Why the hell not?

Should be a fun day at CITI
Las Vegas scored 17 runs yestereday.
Ira : 4/19/2015 9:25 am : link
Matt Reynolds, who started the season in a slump, is now hitting over .300. He went 4/5 yesterday.
Daniel Murphy is one of the best pure hitters in baseball
Headhunter : 4/19/2015 9:35 am : link
when he is on, he is a hit machine. BUT, he does not hit for power, he is not fast, he is a terrible base runner and his fielding is iffy at best. Dickson Herrera went 3-5 and is hitting .324 for Las Vegas. Murphy is not going to resigned after this season. I would try to put together an addition by subtraction package and trade Murphy & Gee for whatever I can get even if it is a couple of C prospects.

Terry Collins has indicated that Michael Cuddyer would get a day off today.

Ian Desmond

who is a 100 million dollar free agent to be has 7 errors at SS for the Nats. Wilmer Flores who turned a 95mph fast ball into a home run should not be IMO be talked off being replaced the next time he makes an error or two. Let him establish who he is without calling for his head the next time he throws wide or skips a throw to first.
So two poor fielding SS can hit
Giants2012 : 4/19/2015 9:57 am : link
We already know this. Both would be better off in different defensive positions.
Cuddyer

Michael Cuddyer does rest. Kirk Nieuwenhuis in left field

Lineup

Lagares 8
Nieuwenhuis 7

Closer

Terry Collins says Bobby Parnell may overtake Familia as closer eventually, but Parnell will first have to demonstrate worthiness.

Terry Collins: Jeurys Familia, based on recent success, will remain closer at least initially when Parnell and Black return.

Chipper is acommin ... thrilled?

So let's reward Flores's improved play of late by sitting him? Why not let Tejada play 2B and sit Murphy
Nice bench if the game is close

Sweep the leg and the series.
arcarsenal : 4/19/2015 11:13 am : link
No better way to do that than having Harvey on the mound.
I would absolutely love a 4 game sweep of the Marlins

LGM!
I think the thought process on the Flores
pjcas18 : 4/19/2015 11:19 am : link
day off might be 1) he hasn't had a day off yet (not that he needs one) and 2) might be able to sacrifice offense with Harvey on the mound.

I don't mind it.

Would rather not give Flores an off day after a big hit
Eric on Li : 4/19/2015 11:20 am : link
and without Cuddyer in the lineup.
It is 2 days off since
Headhunter : 4/19/2015 11:30 am : link
they don't play tomorrow and maybe that's not a bad thing for the long haul
I hope we can also give Familia the day off.
Ira : 4/19/2015 12:27 pm : link
He'll be under a lot of pressure to close games until either Mejia comes back or Parnell is ready to close.
So great to have a weekend of deGrom and Harvey
Deej : 4/19/2015 12:31 pm : link
So exciting to watch our guy. I also find Bartolo starts fun/exciting etc. Dont know why, I just love watching him pitch. Less so Gee and Niese. Wheeler was sometimes fun, but sometimes a real labor I thought.

Amazing to think that if the other kids pan out, Mets could have 140-162 "must see" starts a season.
strange decision not starting Flores

I've had a man crush on you since 2006, but I've found someone else. It's someone you know - his name is Matt Harvey. I know it's shitty to step out on you with your friend, but I hope you understand.

We can still be friends!

Love always, Speedywheels...
seems like he was dialing back his fastball until

He batted .229 and .232 the previous two seasons so it can't be that big of a surprise especially since he is 34. At least he is walking a lot.
I really like TdA hitting in front of Duda
Eric on Li : 4/19/2015 2:01 pm : link
This team has a lot of #2 hitters.
Now you know it's a dream

Bad call bring Harvey in for the 7th.
He had 80 pitches and a 6 run lead.
no need to push him early in the season

Last two games he's given up 7 runs in 12 innings on 13 hits. Not horrible but not ace like either. Its early.
