Address both lines in the first 2 rounds, then a safety in Rd 3
Highly unrealistic
DavidinBMNY : 4/19/2015 9:26 am : link
That looks pure need based. While need will be emphasized it's likelier rd 4-6 are pure need where 1-3 are need at BPA.
Agree
AcidTest : 4/19/2015 9:41 am : link
that it's not realistic. I'd be surprised if we took Scherff at #9. The draft does look like it's mostly based on need, which is not what the Giants do.
More and more can see

Reese taking one of the top WRs if available or Arik Amsted the DE. These are the impact positions we look for in the first round if they are BPA. Armstead could turn out to be all world with his size and skill set. Similar to JPP.
Is James Sample at all related to Johnny Sample?
Milton : 4/19/2015 9:51 am : link
Interesting factoid re: Johnny Sample from Wikipedia....
Quote:
Sample had the distinction of beginning and ending his career with championship wins in two of the most famous games in Professional Football history, and winning an NFL championship, an AFL championship, and a World Championship. In his rookie season, he won an NFL championship ring with the Colts in their victory over the New York Giants in the 1958 NFL title game, which became known as The Greatest Game Ever Played. In his final season, he helped the Jets win the AFL Championship against the Oakland Raiders, and then to defeat the Colts in the third AFL-NFL World Championship (Super Bowl III), recording an interception in the Jets' 16–7 win. He is the only professional football player to have won all three: an NFL, AFL, and Super Bowl Championship.
Actually I really like this - and I don't think Scherff is a need pick
PatersonPlank : 4/19/2015 9:51 am : link
He is the only OL player shown consistently in the top 12 picks. The others fluctuate all over the 1st round, maybe even the 2nd. Scherff allows us to let him an Pugh battle it out, the best fit for T plays there and G plays there. We have a much improved line and a lot of flexibility.
Coyle is always a need picker

I think the Giants will look hard at receivers, too, but I just don't see it in the first round.
Excellent job

one of the best I have seen on this board. I agree with a wr at some point in the draft.
For depth

I'd like to see more than one OLman. Otherwise, it looks good to me.

KC seems to be in special need of WRs and if an elite one is at 9 would we have a partner to trade with?
Armstead

If Reese picks him he's nuts.Guy has size and is athletic but is a mediocre football player whose results on the field are those of a 4th rounder.
The must do picks!

There are needs and there are URGENT NEEDS. As for the urgent need for the Giants:

DT. The run defensive is the worse in the league and a defensive end is not going to solve this problem.

FS and SS. Next projected starters for the Giants as of today is Nat Berhe at SS and Cooper Taylor at FS. I don't know about you but that scare me.

OL. It just need to be a good day one starter either at guard or tackle.

With this in mind, lets redo old Frand draft:

1). Danny Shelton, DT, Washington.
2). Best Offensive lineman on the board.
3). Jaquiski Tratt, SS, Stanford.
4). Best Free Safety on the board.

Go with SS first because I believe that this is a strong draft at the free safety spot, but limited at the strong safety.
Need or Best Player

Was Justin Pugh the best player on the board or a need?
It isn't that Scherff isn't a good value at #9
BillT : 4/19/2015 1:44 pm : link
It's that he's plays the wrong position for a #9 pick when there are other players rated just as highly (as far as we can tell) that play higher priority positions like WR and maybe DL.

From what we know about the Giants, Pugh was rated as well as any player left on their board at the time. From that group of equally rated players they chose to take an OT to fill that need. Need or Best Player? Yes. Both.
the giants
msh : 4/19/2015 2:20 pm : link
said after the draft they had pugh in thier top tier and that he was the BPA at thier pick due to his flexibility to play multiple positions along the OL which is why i hope they have a similar rating on la'el collins who i think could be be at least as flexible as pugh, maybe more so as i think collins has LT level ability if required

the giants have more need of a DE and all the DE prospects look more suited to 3-4 OLB than 4-3 DE this year more than any. round 2 looks like the place to go after one of the DE prospects as 9 just seams high for that unless they rate the likes of beasly high enough and he somehow falls to 9 then that might change thier thinking

i can see the arguement for one of the top WR but strengthing the lines on both sides of the ball will make this team more competitive, look what happens when the played one of the better OL or DL teams they get pushed around and have been shutout several times the last few years. i dont want another losing season peppered with highlight catches to beckham or a new WR they just drafted
and go into the next draft looking to fix the lines again

they need to be able to close out games by getting back to giants football, running the ball and stopping the run first. then kill them with beckham and cruz when they force opponents to bring guys up to stop the run. however good the WR is it wont bring them as much wins as fixing the OL and controlling the ball will
If Reese addresses the Oline in round 1
Rjanyg : 4/19/2015 4:13 pm : link
It will be with a guy they feel can eventually be a Tackle. We have heard they like Flowers so my initial thought is that he could be the pick. Scherff could either play LG or RT right away so I see a good fit there. Peat seems to be strictly a tackle and while some are high on him, I just don't see the physicality I want in a OL. Looks soft and seems to play soft. The film I have seen of Scherff and Flowers shows some nastiness and ability to move, reach, and hook.

I like the idea of taking the best OL in round 1 and taking care of a big need which should align with value. Then DE or WR in round 2. No safety until round 3 earliest.
Agree in rd 1 if OL this year, in top 10
DavidinBMNY : 4/19/2015 4:47 pm : link
Has to project to a tackle
LOL
PaulN : 4/19/2015 6:53 pm : link
Then when the Giants do not do as they predicted, they give them a poor draft ranking, LOL! Kiper is the best at that. He decided the teams needs and who best fits for them, when they don't do as Kiper thinks they should do he says they did a bad job. LOL. This entire thing has become a joke to be honest. The mocks, not the actual draft.
