If the statements they're making talk about bringing intensity, I can see Capuano swapping those two, but it sacrifices speed/skill for that "intensity". I think I'd rather keep 40 in there if it was my call. But Manbearpig brings the playoff experience, so who knows.

Agree with this. It wouldn't surprise me, but I really hope Grabner plays. Intensity is great but Grabner is a more skilled player and skill is still the most important factor in wins and losses.

Fish, I agree Fransie has struggled, but that's because the Islanders are not commenting on the lingering lower body injury he's had since January. It affects him a lot more than what we're being told (or, not being told). It's hurting his game. Perhaps today's the day he shakes it off.

and hurting the team put a healthy player out there. Perhaps a hurt fransie is better than anything else we have. Then again you can move Bailey to center and dress Grabner but that probably does not solve much.

If and when Grabovski is healthy maybe you can do something with Fransie. However, I don't expect that to cross Cappy's mind

I think you hit on the essence of it. A hurting 51 is better than the other options now (which, IMO, is moving Strome back to C, but in no universe do you separate him from JT ever again). With Grabbo completely healthy, it's another story.

Not a ton of flow but a whole lot of hitting. Isles with the better play but the Caps have also missed out on a couple opportunities for odd man rushes.

We are playing very well in both the offensive and defensive zones, but we've been out of sync in the neutral zone. Gonne have to tighten up play between the blue lines.

Bottom line though, the Isles are going into the locker room with less adjustments to make then their opponents. Lets fucking go.

Erase that 6 minute duck and cover stretch, and this was a pretty complete game by the Isles. THIS is the kind of game that shows the young guys what it takes to win. Hopefully, they go to school on today's lesson and use it to propel them to take the leap we've been hoping for.

Think i broke my ankle jumping up and down like a madman after the goal. So awesome!!!

While at my little guys wrestling tournament. With about 10 minutes left in the third period his team was done for the day. I hung around a little getting more and more pissed as we once again took our foot of the gas. When the caps scored we packed our shit and hopped in the car. I knew the game was DVR'ing at home.

Got home and watched the rest. YES! YES! YES! Thrilled we won.

That said when the fuck is this team going to learn to play with a lead. The second they scored we decided it was ok to play the game in their end of the ice again. I don't get it and it's driving me fuggin nuts. Happy now but was losing my mind for most of the third period.

...apparently it's the chant that Daniel Bryan and his fans use in his matches (sorry if you knew that, but I don't follow wrestling even a bit). It is representative of an underdog story, and it happened organically at NVMC this year. What's even better - for Isles fans - is that the players embraced it and now salute the fans after the game at center ice with their own Yes! Yes! Yes! chant. Is it corny? Sure. However, it's fun as hell...my sons loved doing it when we went up to LI earlier this year to catch a game. But in this final season at NVMC, the team and its fans are bonding in a way not seen since the Dynasty years.

Due to a family commitment, but was kept updated via texts. I would've been drinking heavily if I had to watch it live.

Hopefully they feed off this on Tues. Keep the home ice! It'll take losing 3 out of 4 to lose this. Can't see that happening if we play like we did today!!

Go to the Isles website and go to the postgame interviews...watch Lubo's. He is really overjoyed and understands the fans and appreciates them greatly. What a complete 180 from a guy that didn't initially want to be here and is now 100% invested. I've read that he's been nothing but happy here and his family enjoys NY. It would not shock me at all if he ends up back here next year in a 7th defenseman role just north of vet minimum with performance bonuses. He can function as another d-coach for all intents and purposes for the youngsters. His skill on the PP is still valuable and certainly where he can instruct the kids on how to play at the NHL level.

I don't even care that it's taken me over 5 hours to get home when it should be an hour and a half. What the hell was going on on the GWB.

Loudest building I've ever been in since the Bates penalty shot. I have no way of saying which was louder. Nonetheless, today was unreal. The right team won today.

Every fan base has douchebags. This guy obviously doesn't understand that. I'm sure DC is full of all caring and gentle men. I was not happy these were the seats I was going to because I find the blue and orange army to be obnoxious. To my surprise, they werent bad at all. Barely any of the stupid soccer chants. We had a family of capitals fans 3 rows in front. When they came in everyone booed and yes the asshole chant started but the father played along to it and laughed. During the intermissions they were talking to alot of different isles fans and having a good time. When the cals scored the kids jumped up and celebrated. Not 1 person threw anything or yelled anything nasty. After the OT goal nobody bothered them and they just sat there watching everyone go nuts. When it settled down they asked a group in front of them if they would like their towels because they didnt want them and they left with no probs. gotta say I didnt see the yellow coats running anywhere or people focused on an area with fights. The worst I heard in the parking lot was the asshole chant and boos. So yeah, it was most likely a group of idiots making everyone else look bad.

Many of the caps fans took it in stride, there wasnt really many of them. One older guy played to the crowd that was chanting asshole like an orchestra conductor and that just made the fans laugh and tell the guy your cool man. I've seen alot worse at that place during the shit years and obviously vs rangers.

Psyched for you guys that went. Sounded electric on the TV. Announcers and JT all commented on how special it was.

... Flying to Missouri and meeting my grandson took some of the sting off the loss today. I only saw the last half of the 3rd period and the all too short OT, but my son was saying that the Caps had a hard time controlling the puck. Hope they fix that for game 4 and the series can go back to DC all tied up.

Like has been said, every fanbase has those guys that go overboard, but I personally dont like to be called trash because I live on Long Island. People are nasty everywhere you go just in different manners.

Again I tailgated by the Marriot where alot of long time fans tailgate and not 1 problem happened out there. Just the ahole chant. If you cant take that, then maybe dont go to the game wearing a dale hunter jersey.

...it this report is in fact accurate...is uncalled for, but as said above, it happens everywhere. Case in point, in 2000, my wife and I attended an Isles-Caps game here in DC. I had an Islanders baseball cap on, and the wife had an Isles jersey on. Neither of us are boisterous at games, especially in enemy territory. Our seats were about 20 rows in front of Ted Leonsis' box, and about 5 rows behind the Isles runway. This was not a banner year for the Isles, who finished 21-51-7, so it's not like the Isles were a serious threat to the Caps at that time.

We wound up seeing a 4-4 tie that day, and the extend of how "wild" we got was exchanging high-fives when the Isles scored. After our 3rd goal, the drunk douchebags behind us - who ragged us and gave the "asshole" chant all game, all of which we expected and were prepared for - decided to dump a beer on my wife (funny how they avoided me and got her...it was chicken shit stuff). I normally wouldn't mind confronting someone one on one, or even one on two, but inside the enemy's bunker, I knew I couldn't take that chance. I grabbed an usher who wasn't really interested in helping, so I realized that was total crap. I walked up the steps to Leonsis's box and got his attention by knocking on the plexiglass and motioning to him I (politely) wanted to talk to him. To my surprise, he came out to talk, and I explained what happened. He came back down to my seats, had security remove the douchebags, apologized profusely to my wife, and took my contact info and ultimately gave us great tickets to a future game. I saw red there (no pun intended), but taking the high road had its advantages. But wearing a Hunter jersey in and of itself is just asking for it, and certainly chanting and drawing attention to themselves as this Caps group did at NVMC isn't really a Mensa move.

I feel like we've been so hungry for a winner that the few amount of our douchebag fans double down on their douchebaggery at these games since they never get the chance, otherwise. Everyone seems to be saying this was a relatively isolated incident.

I was debating this myself. I think I'm leaning marginally towards the Bates penalty shot, though the way the rest of this season unfolds could impact this.

Keep in mind in those days, the penalty shot was a much more rare commodity. Even though we all know the shootout is a different animal, just seeing a guy line up and skate in all alone can't help but feel less amazing these days. And even though this was a true game-winner yesterday from JT, with under 3 minutes remaining in the Bates game, it was as close to a game-winner as can be.

Was crazier for the ot winner. The bates penalty shot was game 4 and that 3rd period was nuts! I too was at both games. When bates scored I was giving high fives and going crazy but there was still time to play. Where yesterday I was jumping, high fiving and hugging anyone in site. I was shaking and shocked 20 mins later walking out. First OT winner I had ever experienced live in my life. I had the sick feeling of being at both ot losses vs pitts 2 years ago and as Im sure you can imagine, I was expecting another heartbreak.

I was 12 years old and wearing a Phil Simms jersey and the Giants had just won. As I'm walking down the spiral walkway to exit the stadium I'm getting pelted with food and beer and when i look up to see who was doing it a grown man was yelling obsenities at me and making the meanest(funniest) face I've ever seen. Also, hows this for an omen.. my old man was a season ticket holder for all of the Cup teams. Used to travel locally with the team a lot (places like Toronto, Boston, etc). Turns out his seats (which he gave up when I was born just following the last Cup season) were 2 rows in front of mine in the same section. It's all coming full circle.

While I did stay at the Marriott when I came up to the game in December, I never had to give them my car/license plate info at check-in. Sure seemed like they didn't care if you were a hotel guest to park there. Oh well.

Has been pretty much like CDH of last year since getting back in. He threw a few really good checks yesterday. And his skating and puck management has been good.

Hickey was better yesterday but still is a midget and Strait is slowly going back to being Strait after a solid gm 1. So thats something to worry about.

And yes when I got home I watched the replay since I dvr'd both games knowing it might have gone overtime and I couldnt stop grinning. Im not as negative as you think.
