Well, if Ovechkin thought that the Phone Booth in DC was loud, he may need new eardrums after today. The Old Barn will be rocking, and fans have been honking the familiar "Let's Go Islanders" on their car horns since 8am. Playoff hockey at NVMC is back.
No lineups announced yet; expect Halak against Holtby. Cappy has hinted there could be some changes to the forwards. Hamonic not back and doesn't appear to be close. And then while Capuano said Grabbo is close, 84 himself said:
"I still feel not great," Grabovski said Friday. "My conditioning is better. But I don't play for two months and I'm still not 100 percent. It's very hard to just jump in for the playoffs." |
Expect the Isles to come out aggressively.
"I just thought for whatever reason . . . that we're a little too passive," Jack Capuano said. "As I told our guys, our identity hasn't been that all year. We're not a team that plays safe or sits back. We're a team that obviously wants to play on our toes. We want to dictate the pace." |
We'll close with Cal Clutterbuck's thoughts:
We’re going to come with some pretty serious intensity in Nassau. It’ll be up to them to match us. |
To those of you attending today...bring it, loud and proud.
Let's Go Islanders!
Follow men's eyes
As they look to the skies
The shifting shafts of shining
Weave the fabric of their dreams...
Erase that 6 minute duck and cover stretch, and this was a pretty complete game by the Isles. THIS is the kind of game that shows the young guys what it takes to win. Hopefully, they go to school on today's lesson and use it to propel them to take the leap we've been hoping for.
Superimpressed by all d-men not named Strait, and every line played strong...gotta credit Holtby for keeping this from being lopsided. Jaro was big when he needed to be.
The legend of Johnny Boychuk continues to grow.
And welcome to the show, Captain. Way to put the team on your back and get it done.
JT scored I screamed. Scared the piss out of her. She said " hockey game, daddy?"
So as a reward we are leaving now for a hockey game. Phantoms playing the Hershey Bears. I will be sporting my Shawn Bates jersey proudly.
Fuck yes.
Kyle and Viz had great games 2 and 55 were very, very good. We deserved this game and we got it. Now we have to take control in this series on Tuesday night. Great stuff right now for this team.
Yes!Yes!Yes!
Got home and watched the rest. YES! YES! YES! Thrilled we won.
That said when the fuck is this team going to learn to play with a lead. The second they scored we decided it was ok to play the game in their end of the ice again. I don't get it and it's driving me fuggin nuts. Happy now but was losing my mind for most of the third period.
And the game-winner in .gif format:
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, boys!

Where is the Islanders Fans' Yes! Chant from? A short history - ( New Window )
Hopefully they feed off this on Tues. Keep the home ice! It'll take losing 3 out of 4 to lose this. Can't see that happening if we play like we did today!!
Loudest building I've ever been in since the Bates penalty shot. I have no way of saying which was louder. Nonetheless, today was unreal. The right team won today.

2 two years ago and another all those years ago.
Today was electric. Hope it doesn't go 6. But if it does. We will be loud. We will be a force
Apparently lots of abusive and racist behavior occurred?

Sadly every fanbase has them, Giants as well. Certainly shameful behavior but is not representative of the majority of Isles fans...

Every fan base has douchebags. This guy obviously doesn't understand that. I'm sure DC is full of all caring and gentle men. Of course none of us would condone these acts if they were true but this guy smells of a guy who can dish it but not take it. Again I reiterate that ever team has asshole fans.
Many of the caps fans took it in stride, there wasnt really many of them. One older guy played to the crowd that was chanting asshole like an orchestra conductor and that just made the fans laugh and tell the guy your cool man. I've seen alot worse at that place during the shit years and obviously vs rangers.
Take care.
Like has been said, every fanbase has those guys that go overboard, but I personally dont like to be called trash because I live on Long Island. People are nasty everywhere you go just in different manners.
Again I tailgated by the Marriot where alot of long time fans tailgate and not 1 problem happened out there. Just the ahole chant. If you cant take that, then maybe dont go to the game wearing a dale hunter jersey.
Suck it ovi - ( New Window )
We wound up seeing a 4-4 tie that day, and the extend of how "wild" we got was exchanging high-fives when the Isles scored. After our 3rd goal, the drunk douchebags behind us - who ragged us and gave the "asshole" chant all game, all of which we expected and were prepared for - decided to dump a beer on my wife (funny how they avoided me and got her...it was chicken shit stuff). I normally wouldn't mind confronting someone one on one, or even one on two, but inside the enemy's bunker, I knew I couldn't take that chance. I grabbed an usher who wasn't really interested in helping, so I realized that was total crap. I walked up the steps to Leonsis's box and got his attention by knocking on the plexiglass and motioning to him I (politely) wanted to talk to him. To my surprise, he came out to talk, and I explained what happened. He came back down to my seats, had security remove the douchebags, apologized profusely to my wife, and took my contact info and ultimately gave us great tickets to a future game. I saw red there (no pun intended), but taking the high road had its advantages. But wearing a Hunter jersey in and of itself is just asking for it, and certainly chanting and drawing attention to themselves as this Caps group did at NVMC isn't really a Mensa move.
Yesterday gave us a series lead for the first time in forever and the OT game winner was awesome.
I was lucky enough to be at both and will rank yesterday's game higher. Final year at the coliseum. OT winner by the franchise player. series lead, etc.

I was debating this myself. I think I'm leaning marginally towards the Bates penalty shot, though the way the rest of this season unfolds could impact this.
Keep in mind in those days, the penalty shot was a much more rare commodity. Even though we all know the shootout is a different animal, just seeing a guy line up and skate in all alone can't help but feel less amazing these days. And even though this was a true game-winner yesterday from JT, with under 3 minutes remaining in the Bates game, it was as close to a game-winner as can be.
and I've been to a Steelers/Giants game in Pittsburgh.. you know, one of the most "respectful" fanbases in sports??
"Go back to New York you damn guinea!"..
all I could do is smile and laugh at him.
I don't know how to post the picture but if you look that name up you'll see it.
Now you just need a parking pass fish, amirite? ;)

Haha. Really? Who calls people guineas anymore? My family used to have season tickets to the Eagles because my brother's an Eagles fan. I was 12 years old and wearing a Phil Simms jersey and the Giants had just won. As I'm walking down the spiral walkway to exit the stadium I'm getting pelted with food and beer and when i look up to see who was doing it a grown man was yelling obsenities at me and making the meanest(funniest) face I've ever seen. What a tool.I heard a story of a group of Rangers fans who beat an Islanders fan unconscious and then ripped his jersey off and posed with his body for a pic and stole his jersey. All at msg too. It's everywhere. Some fans just love to go to a rivals place and just be obnoxious. That guy reeks of that.
Fehr out next 2 games per Trots. Will be reevaluated after that
