Break it Down.

Can someone go into a little more detail about the expectation of each position on the OL, for the NYG? What is the difference between the right and left guard, is the LT suppose to be more athletic then the rt? I guess from the perspective of the NY Giant offense, are we looking for athletic, versatile trapping offensive linemen, or road graters, or it depends?
To put it simply, it is hard to find an athlete who is both a great

pass blocker AND a great run blocker, so usually lines are designed for one or the other depending on the team's personnel and offensive scheme. The Giants' current linemen are much better at passing blocking (protecting Eli) than run blocking.

We are trying to find guys who are better at both types of blocking.
The Left Tackle

guards the strong side so typically will face quicker, faster DE's. The Right Tackle has to be almost as athletic, but will face second tier pass rushers.

That is my opinion - someone correct me if I'm wrong. I know that throughout history, left tackle is assumed to be the harder position of the two and I've come to my conclusions on my own. And trust me, I've been wrong many times...just ask my wife. She'll verify it.

My thoughts exactly!!!
With the TE now split out, and defenses flip flopping their rushers

I'm not sure there is much distinction anymore between LT and RT. In general tackles take on the speed edge rushers, so they need to be built for that. This means quicker, longer arms to push them farther outside, etc. Guards need to be stronger and harder to move because they go up against DT's, who are usually the biggest and strongest guys on the field. Although again, with the game changing, Guards are pulling a lot more so they need to be quicker than in the past.

These are generalities. Frankly with the way offenses are now some of these requirements are likely slightly different team to team.
