So I'm listening to Boomer and Carton this morning...

CBSGameFace : 4/21/2015 8:12 am

.....and Carton says, "If he had one game to win, he would take Eli third out of Rivers, Roethlisberger and Eli."

I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but damn. Third? How does he even begin to form this opinion? Those green sun glasses must be awful dark.

Boomer said he'd take Eli second, FWTW.

I really need to get to major market, already. The threshold is amazingly low. Even a schmuck like me could make it.

Third? Wow.
So

what?
Go for it

If anyone needs a low threshold and low expectations, it's you...
You must have just moved to New York
NoPeanutz : 4/21/2015 8:21 am : link
and this is your first time listening to WFAN. Welcome! You'll find that BBI is quite split on the network, but I still prefer them to ESPN 98.7.

Just to catch you up, Boomer plays the media estabslished straight man, while Carton plays the provocative goon who goads callers with controversial statements. It's a provocative and generally reliable format. Not for everybody, but some enjoy it.
So you were listening to Boomer & Carton

That's your mistake.
This is why

I am so glad we finally changed fucking systems. If anything, I hope Eli can erase the label put on him.

I hope he can progress in this system and throw between 30-40 Tds this upcoming year.
Carton
JoeyBigBlue : 4/21/2015 8:31 am : link
Has always been an Eli hater. The guy is a miserable Jets fans who has watched crap the last 10 years start at QB for his team.
Carton also said Mark Sanchez was better than Eli,
Section331 : 4/21/2015 8:34 am : link
so consider the source. Who cares?

In fairness, this is the same person who was surprised a glass of lemonade has a lot of sugar in it. You know, since lemons are such a naturally sweet fruit to begin with.
If you aspire to be better than Boomer and Carton -- first thing to do
gidiefor : Mod : 4/21/2015 8:42 am : link
is turn off the radio -- they are both a bunch of hacks

Seriously -- if you want to learn how to be a sports radio host -- as much as I can't listen to him anymore -- listen to Francesser -- he's really the gold standard -- it's the ego part I can't take -- but he really is a very good broadcaster

you are bottom feeding listening to Boomer and Carton

I don't see anyone talking about your radio show.

What else is on for sports here in NY? I'm forced to listen there and watch NFL Network. I'm a sports fan. So my choices are indeed limited.

Mike and Mike? Ok, maybe....

Francesa is the gold standard and Boomer and Carton are up for Sports Show of the Year? I am officially in the Bizarro universe.

People like to listen to idiots on the radio.
Shepherdsam : 4/21/2015 9:49 am : link

So, that's good news then I guess.
I am a bit surprised those two have lasted this long....
Hades07 : 4/21/2015 9:52 am : link
...only caught their act a couple of times a long time ago, but they seemed pretty terrible to me. I can't really comment on what WFAN is like now, it was pretty good back in the late 80s and 90s, but I stopped listening altogether a couple of years ago as it became mostly all garbage. The only time I turn it on now is to catch the 20 min update if I am expecting news and won't be able to get on a computer for a while.
I usually enjoy WFAN
NoPeanutz : 4/21/2015 10:02 am : link
They're regular lineup is pretty solid, IMO. They're fill-ins are usually an instant channel changer, though.

Jody MacDonald.
Richard Neer.
Russ (Thank god they dont let him on anymore outside of the Giants' post-game).
Even the usual Kim Jones+ random non-NY fan co-host combo makes me cringe.

People kill the Pope for his baseball talk
smshmth8690 : 4/21/2015 10:31 am : link
but Richard Neer is the worst. He is the radio equivalent of a batter stepping out of the batters box.
He did throw an amazing NYG pig roast last year

Best to ignore everything he says about everything, because he's intentionally obnoxious and probably doesn't believe a word of it.

That's the Colin Cowherd school of sports radio.
who the hell cares
djm : 4/21/2015 10:45 am : link
guess who has two rings? That's all I care about.

And Eli is going to light up the NFL this season.
Can anyone explain to me the difference between:
Marty in Albany : 4/21/2015 10:56 am : link
"If I had one game to win" and "If I wanted to win as many games as possible in a season."? Why wouldn't the best QB be able to do both and wouldn't winning multiple games be better than winning just one?

Are you trying to say that Eli is a great Super Bowl QB, but he isn't very good during the regular season? Please explain.
he has his opinion
djm : 4/21/2015 11:02 am : link
who cares...Rivers is a good QB. So is Ben. They have both played well in the playoffs. Guys like Carton will always defer to the other guys and always lean toward the negative with Eli, both publicly, to drive ratings, and even privately just because they won't want to ever praise the guy.

IF ELi was a Jet the green fan base in this town would gush about Eli's heroics. Two rings for a franchise that hadn't won since 69? Lol...pick 3rd my ass...they'd defend this guy all day.

Instead they can hope that GEno Smith wins ONE big NFL game. One. Eli has won at least one I think.
Who cares???

know about winning? These idiots thought Chad Pennington was going to the HOF. Turn the radio off.
I see no reason to pick Rivers, I frankly can't remember
PatersonPlank : 4/21/2015 11:39 am : link
Any big game he has won. Of course he has also never made it it anywhere near a SB. I can see some picking Big Ben, his stats are equivalent yo Eli's. Both are HOF players in my opinion.
I hate that mush-mouthed cretin
sb from NYT Forum : 4/21/2015 11:59 am : link
...I can't stand that they use him on ads on WFAN. The guy can't even enunciate his words, plus he isn't funny, and, well, unintelligent.
What I have learned
joeinpa : 4/21/2015 12:13 pm : link
about sports talk radio, and the people who host, is this:

They are rarely as informed about a team as the avid fan of that team is. And they don't allow performance or facts to ever alter a perception.

Roethlisberger, over Eli, both two time Super Bowl Champions, even though Eli unlike Big Ben, played a major role in each victory, is a good debate, but not unrealistic.

Rivers, over Eli, with no resume in championship games, is just another example of the aforementioned, facts not altering perception.

I was at one time a big time listener of sports talk radio. It was a good traveling companion, and good company during mundane jobs, like weeding a garden etc. But now I find them more annoying than entertaining, and listen much less frequently.

Personally, I enjoy B&C

there's only so much disecting the Yankees 1964 lineup vs. LHP that I can take...

The focus of their show is to be controversial and to make you laugh. I think Carton is hilarious, and so is Al Dukes, and Boomer compliments Carton really well. I don't need to hear indepth sports talk as soon as I get out of bed. Laughs with with sports talk sprinkled in is fine.
It's all to get ratings..

Carton's schtick is to tweak the Giant fan just like Francesa tweaks the Jet fan.

Unfortunately (and incomprehensively) Boomer and Carton's ratings are strong. His "schtick" is just a lazy way to get through a broadcast (example:back in February, when it looked like the Broncos might not bring Peyton back, Carton's question of Giants fans at the beginning of the program was "who would you want quarterbacking the Giants in 2015, Peyton or Eli?". Carton berated Giants fans who called in and chose Eli). Living in Danbury, I listen to the local outlet of CBS sports radio's morning show - Gino and Jones. They are more knowledgeable and a lot more entertaining than B & C.
I'd say this was your first mistake...
