Devin Smith

How many people are on the bandwagon for this guy? If he can be had in the 3rd or 4th I would be a happy man. Odell on one side and Smith on the other, Eli might need to add 10 yards to his deep ball.
He's my favorite non-superstar WR

but I don't think he'll last to the 3rd.
I'd be surprised to see him there in the 3rd

I think he can go anywhere from 25-45. Maybe some teams get scared off by a lack of size and lack of tape showing skills other than running deep. But I don't see him dropping out of the 2nd. He has elite tracking ability, elite movement aesthetics, and plays the game hard. He is more than an athlete...but didn't have a ton of experience running NFL route trees because of the OSU system.

I've said this before and I'll say it again..he moves like Beckham. Smith may be what Beckham was after his sophomore year. IF he continues the same path of development...you could have a gold mine there.
If he is there for our pick in round 3

And we drafted a WR in round 1 and 2 you still take him because that's ridiculous value in round 3. That said no way he slips out the 2nd. There will be close to 20 WRs drafted in the first 3 rounds, book it.

not as high on him as others. Tons of raw speed and athleticism, but he is not at all an accomplished route runner, and he is slightly built. There's a lot to develop, but he still needs a lot of development to become a complete receiver. I'd probably still take him in the third, but as others have said, I doubt he lasts that long. Dorsett as well.
I think he's gioing to be the guy....
Emlen'sGremlins : 4/21/2015 9:19 pm : link
....from this WR class.
I like him a lot. He's not just a deep guy.
yatqb : 4/21/2015 9:20 pm : link
He cuts off routes with suddenness that leaves CBs at a loss.

I just looked, and couldn't find it, but another poster posted some draft site's detailed statistical analysis of Devin Smith's 2014 season. It broke down all the routes he ran, and surprisingly, he ran almost all of them, with his second most common route being the curl. And it also showed that his percentage of catches per target was high, and that his percentage was similar for all routes.

His numbers for percentage of catches per target and snaps were exceptional. And it pointed out that the offense he played in deployed specific personal packages, and it was that, rather than anything else that resulted in his production not being higher than it was. Viewed based on his opportunities, his production was among the highest for any WR.

I see everything you see watching him play. LOVE his level of competitiveness, and not to slight either he or OBJ, but I can't help thinking OBJ Lite when I watch him play.

I think he may very well be go in the 1st, but if he's still there at 40 and the Giants don't want him there, they won't see him again.
Very, very surprised, nay shocked,

If Smith gets to the 3rd round. Not in today's nfl arena game emphasizing passing, and not when considering Smith is a great gunner on topbof his receiving. IMO many draft big boards are clearly off rating Miami's Dorsett above Smith.

He's a legit target for slot 40- if he's still available.

In large tiers, I'd put him among the second tranche of WRs, after a 1st tranche of Cooper, White, Parker, Strong, and Green-Beckham who are all clearly 1st round talents. The next broad tier includes Smith, Agholor, Perriman and others whose tape I have not viewed like Coates and Lockette...

Maybe Dorsey in the 2nd tier too, not too high on him...
Dorsett or Dorsey?

The Miami midget...?
CLUTCH

upgraded, tougher, faster version of Steve Smith IMHO. If he were around in rounds 3/4 I'd love to have him.

So you want to get an upgraded version of the Giants' Steve Smith in round 3 or 4? Greedy much? I'd take that in round 2 any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Lou, what don't you like about

Dorsett besides his size?

I actually like his overall skillset. He's not just a one trick pony who wins on deep speed. He's a great route runner and he's got good reliable hands. I don't know if he's going to be strong or physical enough to make it in the NFL, but Dorsett is someone I wouldn't mind in the 2nd/3rd rounds. Same with Smith.

Do I need more than that, after Giants' experiences with Moss and Jernigan? Seriously, looked at 2 game tapes of him, and left with the question why doesn't he impact the game more? Not enamored of his kick & punt return skills either. IDK, mostly just a feeling that if we draft him it will be like an at bat vs. Mo, and Dorsett will be strike 3 swinging...

When have the Giants ever had a good pint sized WR? Just a bad feeling, in a draft loaded with mid round guys like Ty Montgomery...
that's how I originally felt
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 4/23/2015 2:11 am : link
It's hard not to think of Sinorice Moss when talking about a small-speed WR from Miami.

But Dorsett has a different game than Moss or Jernigan. Those 2 guys were noted for their YAC skills and ability to make plays with the ball in their hands. Dorsett is a pure deep threat. And Dorsett has shown plus hands and route-running skills in opinion. A deep threat who can run routes all over the field and has good hands? Every time could use a guy like that.

I think Dorsett would be more Manningham than Sinorice/Jernigan. Although the size is definitely a concern.
I loved Mannigham's college tape.
BlueLou : 4/23/2015 7:26 am : link
Can't say the same for Dorsett, but I hope he proves me wrong... But I can't imagine Reese grabbing him at 40...
Dorsett reaks of waste of draft pick for me
