NFT: Knicks chat!!!!!!!!!!

DanMetroMan : 4/22/2015 10:08 am

Goran Dragic hinted that he will likely return to the Miami Heat next season.
"I look forward to come back to have a great season with the Heat," Dragic said in a video released to Heat fans. It makes a lot of sense for him to return to Miami considering they can offer an extra year (Heat can offer five years while other teams are limited to four), but stranger things have happened in free agency. The Heat were decimated by injuries this season, but a potential lineup of Dragic, Dwyane Wade, Luol Deng, Chris Bosh and Hassan Whiteside would be pretty deadly in the weak Eastern Conference.

According to Yahoo Sports, Rajon Rondo will not return to Dallas next season if Rick Carlisle is the head coach.
This should surprise no one, as it's pretty obvious that Rondo and Carlisle's relationship has been disastrous at best. Rondo played just 10 minutes in Tuesday's defeat in Houston, and Carlisle opted to go with Raymond Felton to close out the game. Yahoo Sports reported that the Lakers would have been Rondo's choice had he never been traded to Dallas, so it looks like a move to Los Angeles could be in the works for the mercurial guard. This story is only going to heat up if the Mavericks are eliminated, so be sure to check back for updates.

I want no part of Rondo

Rondo

to the Lakers for the max, do it!
I would be ok with Rondo
nygiants16 : 4/22/2015 10:13 am : link
if it is a 1 year deal with a second year option prove it type of deal...

I think Monroe is coming here for the 4 year max so that is 15 million

If you could convince Rondo to take a deal starting around 7 million...Give him an option and then if he plays well you sign him long term when the cap goes way up...

That leaves you with around 7 million to spend...Maybe convince Wes Mathews to do the same?

Rondo Mathews Melo Monroe Towns?

Like i said though only take Rondo if he is coming on a discount, I do think Rondo and Melo want to play together...
No thanks
MookGiants : 4/22/2015 10:14 am : link
on Rondo at any amount of money
no way Rondo...
Italianju : 4/22/2015 10:16 am : link
takes 7 mill though. The risk would be too high for him. A bad year or another knee injury and he is screwed cause he took a one year deal.

No 1 year with an opt out so it would be 2 year deal...

basically you tell him look you have a great year and you can cash in when the cap goes way up or if you get hurt you have the opt in to protect you
yeah....
Italianju : 4/22/2015 10:22 am : link
but it would only be like 2/14.5 or something like that. Even coming off an ehh season i bet he can easily get a 4/40 deal from someone.

Oh i am sure he can, and if he does good luck to that team...
Worst kept secret in the league is Rondo wanting to be a Laker
GiantFilthy : 4/22/2015 10:28 am : link
and play with Kobe. You will have a hard time finding any Laker fan that wants him though.

As for him signing a short deal, with the cap about to rise I'd expect a ton of players to either sign a one year deal and bank on themselves, or sign long term deals with an opt out after one of two years.
Someone will give him a lot more money than 7 million
BeerFridge : 4/22/2015 10:30 am : link

He's

clearly a tool. Guy was always mentioned as available even when he was a clear top 3-4 player at his position.
Not only an ass,
GiantFilthy : 4/22/2015 10:37 am : link
but he just doesn't seem to be able to do the things that he used to do, which was enough to make it worth putting up with him I guess.

I'm going to shit if the Lakers blow their next few years on a Rondo-Love big payday package this offseason.
Phil Jackson says he's thinking long term
djm : 4/22/2015 10:42 am : link
no short term fixes for the Knicks..

Jackson also said he will keep options open on the trade offers for the pick. A lot depends on where is. If it's 5th they may be more open to dealing it...

I think if they are 3 and Towns and Okafor are off the board, i could see Phil trading the pick...

Phil made it sound like he wants to go big in the draft but who knows...

He also mentioned getting a player that can slash and can drive to the basket.

I think Phil wants Towns based on what he has said the past month or so

I know with some level of NBA connections says Wes Mathews is a guy Phil 100% plans to target. Fully on the Knicks radar.
Still
Carl in CT : 4/22/2015 10:50 am : link
Would like to move the pick for Cousins. (Hopefully with some sort of trade exception). And still have money to go shopping with some flexibility.

I would really like this, knicks need a SG badly, well they need a lot badly but SG has been their biggest weakness,

When you have to continually play 2 PGs you have no SGs

Only way to to still have some flexibility is to somehow get rid of Calderon and THJR...

Trade them you save 8 million

Then trade the pick for cousins...that is technically around 12 million going out...

So really you would only be taking on around 1 million...

So instead of the pick and Melo, you would have Melo and Cousins with around 28 million to spend on free agents...

As long as he can get healthy he would be a great fit...

My dream scenario at the start of the season was adding Mathews and Aldridge to Melo...

I thought if you could pry Mathews MAYBE he could talk Aldridge into joining him...
my dream offseason..
Italianju : 4/22/2015 10:56 am : link
before the injury was Mathews and Monroe along with the pick. It would eat up all our money and we woudl have to fill the bench with min guys but:

Calderon
Mathews
Melo
Monroe
Towns (or a vet center with towns off the bench)

is a good team and monroe and mathews are still in their prime so they should be longterm pieces as well. Now the injury worries me since you will be paying a guy pretty good money before he even gets back on the court.
I love Wes Matthews, he always been atop my FA wish list
bceagle05 : 4/22/2015 10:57 am : link
That injury though......
Even before the injury
nygiants16 : 4/22/2015 10:58 am : link
I didnt think the Blazers were going to bring him back because of all the players they have to pay....

Batum, Aldridge and Lillard are all getting big contracts in this off season or next..

Plus Lopez is a free agent as well and he has been good next to Aldridge...

bceagle05 : 4/22/2015 11:01 am : link
A first round loss this year and I think they'll realize that the path to the Finals is a hell of a lot easier in the weak Eastern Conference. Matthews, Lopez, Aldridge, Afflalo - go raid that team, Phil!
Maybe
DanMetroMan : 4/22/2015 11:01 am : link
not a sexy duo but Matthews + Lopez would be a nice little combo to add.
Hahaha, Rondo.
Ten Ton Hammer : 4/22/2015 11:04 am : link
For all you fans who beat the drum that Melo is a selfish, me-first ballplayer, just pray Rondo doesn't end up here. Then you'll really learn the meaning of that label.

No knock at all...i agree it wasn't groundbreaking but the entire article is pretty interesting. Mainly the part where Jax says he's in no rush..

I think the Knicks are in good patient hands. Just hope the moves they make pan out. The turnaround doesn't have to take place overnight, but it appears while Jackson is not into quick fixes he does expect big steps to be made and soon.

I merely meant... shouldn't Jackson leave all options open? It's not as if we have the guaranteed #1 overall pick and Tim Duncan ready to join the Knicks.
I want no part of Rondo
PaulBlakeTSU : 4/22/2015 11:08 am : link
I'm still not sold on the triangle being the savior for our team, given that niether prime Michael and Scottie nor prime Kobe and Shaq are walking through the door. But at least the Knicks seem to be sticking to a plan and in for a penny,...

It is really hard to project who the Knicks are going to bring in without knowing when the Knicks will pick and who they will take.

I just hope whichever big free agents they can get, that they are young players because no matter who we draft, we are still years away.
I don't want Rondo either
Jay on the Island : 4/22/2015 11:11 am : link
and I would be shocked if Jackson went after him unless he was willing to sign a 1 year deal. I would only entertain trading their 1st round pick if they end up with pick 5 and miss out on Towns, Okafor, Mudiay, and Russell.
my ideal offseason
Pep22 : 4/22/2015 11:12 am : link
PG: Reggie Jackson via FA, Calderon, Galloway

SG: Hardaway, Shved, Tyler Harvey (via acquired 2nd rounder)

SF: Melo, Early, Antetakoumbo

PF: Monroe via FA, Brandon Wright via FA, Amundson

C: Towns via # 1, Jason Smith or equivalent

I still believe that Jackson's plan
Jay on the Island : 4/22/2015 11:14 am : link
is to have enough money to sign Durant if he hits free agency next year. I think the Knicks will come away with Monroe and a player like Matthews as long as there is enough cap space for the following free agency period. This is not just a 1 year rebuild.
dan
djm : 4/22/2015 11:16 am : link
he absolutely should leave his options open.

I am more or less against trading the pick but i'd listen to offers and trade the pick if it was too good to pass up.

I'm definitely excited about the next few months of the off-season. This has really never happened before..cap room, draft pick...should be fun

That is an awful back court...If Hardaway is starting this team is in trouble...

I want no part of Jackson and i dont think your getting him either...

You will have to max out Jackson and Monroe to get them, that is all your cap space..
yep
djm : 4/22/2015 11:33 am : link
which is why you really don't want to sit on any cap space unless no one is worth the loot this offseason. If you see a guy you like, get him. Building a team with backbone is more important than saving pennies for a rainy day.

And close to another 20 depending on what they add next year
some of you need to make peace
djm : 4/22/2015 11:37 am : link
with the Knicks NOT getting Towns. First off, the Knicks may not even like Towns which while unlikely is a possibility. Second and more troubling is that the Knicks will probably need to win the lottery and that's just not likely.

There is probably a less than a 20% of the Knicks getting Towns even if they like him.
I like Wesley Matthews, but how much money would you give him?
Greg from LI : 4/22/2015 11:44 am : link
He's turning 29 next season and is coming back from a serious injury. How much value are you getting from him?
agree about towns
melojeteli4 : 4/22/2015 11:47 am : link
If the plan is to sign Durant next year and sign Monroe this year then why draft a big. That puts melo at the 4 and monroe at the 5. I would take mudiay
i'd love to draft Towns
djm : 4/22/2015 11:50 am : link
fits be damned..I don't care about the fits. Towns is a perfect fit for any team let alone a team like the Knicks that desperately need a presence in the paint, but the odds of Towns being drafted by the Knicks are well under 20%.

Fans need to make peace with that. I can just see BBI melting down when the Knicks end up picking 4th and Towns goes 2nd.

I can't even hope for lottery luck. I refuse to. I just want a good player.
