similar things being said about Hankins but, like Shelton, he basically played every snap at Ohio. I don't think the Giants will select Shelton but I wouldn't say he's only a two down run stuffer.
one thing you have to be willing to do with a top 10 pick
is be willing to pay them the fifth year option money relative to their draft pick position - and if they are not at a premium position or a premium player -- that's probably not a good idea
That's why it's going to be a WR, OT, DE or Premium back fielder -- and like Eric says -- or a Suh/NGota type DT
With those others still on the board. The Giants have a #2, a #3, a couple of FA already at DT. Given an equal player rating among those players OL and WR make much more sense.
(Cooper, White or Parker) have the lowest risk and highest value at #9.
The Giants can't afford a "Robert Gallery type of bust / underperformer" on the OL at #9 or a "Clint Sintim type square peg in a round hole" at DE/OLB at #9 either.
no way Gurley gets to the 20's based on everything that's coming out about his recovery...he may even go before we pick, which would give us another hopefully blue chip option...
If the Giants can get a good Olineman in the 2nd, I'm all for taken him with the 9th pick. If you can fortify the Dline and create pressure with the front four, everything else on defense falls into place.

Yes More like loutelei than gnAta, but that's still what you'd like to have. He and Hankins could be like Marcus stroud and john Henderson Back in the day
if Cruz comes back at 80+% and is playing? Are we really gonna spend #9 pick on someone who will be a 4th WR this year? and wouldn't that guarantee that either Cruz (with a big dead $ hit) or Randle is gone after this year? I'm not dead set against it, but aren't there other positions that we would upgrade more with that pick?

He is reminiscent of one of my favorite players ever keith hammer hamilton. Now hammer was even tougher than he looked-a hard dude who was a real badass. Not sure arik has that kind of anger inside him but he could still b a calais campbell who is legit all pro in his own right
If a team really falls in love w him he could shock the world like tyson jackson and go sky high

I wouldn't mind a WR pick at all if they think he's the best player. I don't expect Cruz to be 100% this season and I don't believe that Randle is irreplaceable especially if you're picking another WR with the #9 pick.
A note WR: randle is considered gone either way. If he plays poorly we wont want to resign him + if he plays well he will likely get a better offer elsewhere as hes our #3. So if u look 2 years down the road a WR makes sense even though i hope not!

can rush the passer, despite his size, and he was a three down player at UW. In the PAC 12 you see a lot of up tempo/no huddle offenses, so I think he has the stamina. I realize doing this in college is very different from the pros, but I think he could.
Still not sure he is the best pick at 9, but it'd make me smile.

Well let's see. VC with a major injury, Randle will be a FA & a bunch of mediocrity behind them. I'd say that situation most definitely justifies a WR pick.
He's also a poor scheme fit for us as he would play the same position as Hankins if we were to draft him. There are better options available for us imo.
Watching Davis' tape, I see a pass rushing burst that is not consistent with his stats. By my untrained eye, that says more about his responsibilities in the scheme rather than his abilities as a pass rusher.
In the unlikely event one of the following does not drop to 9:
Dante Foweler
Vic Beasley
Amari Cooper
Kevin White
The Giants probably view Gregory in the same category as the players above but may not be willing to take the risk...the reason why the Giants will take Shelton assuming the draft plays out the way we expect and the above players are gone...is simple...the Giants were at this year's SR. bowl and saw with their own eyes Shelton's play during Sr. Bowl week...how quickly the guys on the board forget...here is an excert from a sr bowl practice:
"Shelton has largely been unblockable on both days. Even against multiple blockers Shelton can get a push. Coaches worked with Shelton some on Wednesday to shed blocks better. But he was pushing linemen back so far it wasn't an issue because he was creating disruption."
But the big question is he merely a 2-down run stuffer? If so, he's probably not worth the #9 spot unless he is Ngata-like.

Tend to agree. With Ellis(on)? signing we'll probably go somewhere else than DT @ 9.

Or the Williamses with the Vikes.
Yeah, but if you're used to paying your LBs pocket change, that's not as much of a problem.
As a fan, I'd like to add a DT of Shelton's caliber. But, I doubt NYG will do it, it would be a change in direction.
And I have been hearing Ray is going to drop in to 2nd round.

Just as long as that team is not the Giants.

2) It's Macolm Brown
I don't think Shelton is the pick. His value is in 3/4. And I like Shelton a lot and I would like the pick. I just can't see them doing this @ 9.
