Has McShay gone off the deep end??

superspynyg : 4/22/2015 2:01 pm
In his latest mock draft he has some questionable picks.
Its a ESPN inside article and I can not see it. Can someone post a link and who he has the Gmen picking.

Here is what I heard on ATL radio.

#6 Jets take Gurley
#7 Chi takes Leonard Williams. Williams will not last till 7.
#8 Atl takes Gregory over Beasley
McShay's rep for years is
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 4/22/2015 2:03 pm : link
"he just copies the popular opinion".

I think this year he has taken that to heart and is being more unique just to be more unique.
Doesn't seem....
Strip-Sack : 4/22/2015 2:04 pm : link
that outrageous to me actually. If Gurley is considered AP like, makes sense he'd go that high if the knee checks out. I doubt LW falls that far but it's not out of the question and I can absolutely see Atlanta taking Gregory.
Gurley is a top 3 player
Big Rick in FL : 4/22/2015 2:05 pm : link
In the draft. Maybe the best overall player. If the Jets think he will be fine injury wise I don't see anything crazy about it.

I posted earlier I thought Williams fell to around there. Most likely the first 3 off the board are Winston, Mariota, Fowler. Raiders with a WR. Redskins could go Gregory, Ray or Beasley & then the Jets Gurley. Also an OL could go high & knock Williams down.
It's hard to

I think he's just having fun with it
Ten Ton Hammer : 4/22/2015 2:10 pm : link
He's paid to churn out these silly mock drafts, but McShay comes off in his interviews as someone who totally agrees that all the draft hoopla is just a circus act.

have you ever gone back and looked at how "conventional wisdom" was horribly wrong?

I guarantee you the first 10 picks won't go the way people expect. Why? Because it happens every year.
If Gurley had not gotten hurt
jeff57 : 4/22/2015 2:11 pm : link
He would have been a top 10, if not a top 5, pick.
He has us taking Scherff
sjnyfan : 4/22/2015 2:17 pm : link
and I agree that it doesn't sound crazy to take Gurley in the top 10, even with the injury. Many analysts have him there and mocked him as such recently.

Not saying it's you Osi but I've heard that before as well and I don't get it. I know it's popular to hate ESPN but all of these guys have NFL contacts. McShay has done very well in picking out the top 100 prospects in the draft as gathered by The Huddle Report. His 5 year average is better than Mayock's who walks on water for some.

Gurley is apparently in very good health
Anakim : 4/22/2015 2:25 pm : link
He could very well go in the top 10. He's a talent similar to Peterson
not surprising that
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 4/22/2015 2:28 pm : link
he's accurate, I never said McShay didn't know anything.

But compared to Kiper and Mayock, McShay has undoubtedly been the least unique when it comes to his opinions on prospects over the past handful of few years. Rarely did McShay surprise you with a take on a prospect.
And McShay has Kevin White going next to the St Louis Rams at #10.
Four Aces : 4/22/2015 2:33 pm : link
I'm not so sure the Giants wouldn't select Kevin White in that scenario.

I dont like

Gurley nearly as much as everyone else. I have him rated in the same ballpark as eddie lacy.
Who went 1-5?

From other posts it looks like Beasley was dropped.
I would

The only part that seems way off,

This draft is a head scratcher
RAIN : 4/22/2015 3:20 pm : link
I'm sure grades, dependent on team, could be all over the map .. even at the top. If Leonard Williams falls .. he'd really make a ton of sense as the centerpiece going forward for our defense.

This time of year though.. is when the poop starts flying everywhere.. teams trying to throw other teams off the scent.
It only takes one odd pick from Oakland
Chip : 4/22/2015 3:21 pm : link
to screw up everyones mock draft. It happens every year and sometimes these odd pick work and sometimes they don't. After throwing away 35 years of draft books I have come to the conclusion that mock drafts are a waste of time. Have your order of players and when the Giants pick you should know who you want from your rankings. All teams have different ranking. Kiper and Mayock are not always right as well as Oakland who seems to pick the wrong guy every year other than possible last year with Mack and Carr.
i the giants go wideout
DaddyM89 : 4/22/2015 3:22 pm : link
whens the last time a team went wideout in the first back to back years? Lions in early 2000s?

In what way? They are very different in how they play the position and run with the ball in their hands. Jamaal Charles would be closer.

Actually it's not that crazy, there are reasonable hypotheticals where he drops to 7. But don't get your hopes up. Chicago with their new 3-4 have open spots on their line. Can't see any way they pass on him.

Gosh I hope not. I don't see anyone but Shelton that I'd want(means nothing). I do not like the DEs or pseudo DEs. Not sure Waynes is worth a 9.

Who are you hearing cvicszasz?
I don't think he is all that sudden....
Hades07 : 4/22/2015 4:16 pm : link
...I think he is a poor man's Charles. But I don't think Gordon's going to be all that good in the NFL. He'll have his moments, but I doubt he ever makes it to anyone's idea of a top back in the league. I'd take Duke, Tevin, Todd, Jay and Ameer all ahead of Melvin.
If available at pick 9, I think Shane Ray is one defensive player the
Four Aces : 4/22/2015 4:20 pm : link
Giants would consider with White and Cooper already selected.

I'd be surprised. Ray is a pass rusher and nothing else. He is a liability against the run and doesn't show a wide array of pass rush moves. He's all about the jump and hustle. Not sure if that cuts it on the next level and he certainly doesn't fit the Giants scheme. Unless you want your 9th overall playing only on passing downs. He is not a SAM in this defense and doesn't have the presence at the POA to play DE every down either. Unless Spags is planning to go 3-4 or wide 9, which I doubt, you are taking a situational player at 9.
For all those that think he is a top 10 talent
superspynyg : 4/22/2015 4:45 pm : link
You would not be against the Giants taking him at 9 would you?
I don't think Ray has to be an 3 down player this year for him to be a
Four Aces : 4/22/2015 4:49 pm : link
a good pick. JPP sure wasn't either in his 1st year. He can certainly develop into that.
JPP certainly wasn't considered a lability against the run but his pass rush
Four Aces : 4/22/2015 4:53 pm : link
was far more raw and in need of work than Ray. Ray is a much more complete player than JPP was coming out of college.
Oh, I agree, he doesn't have to be a starter in year 1
Hades07 : 4/22/2015 4:55 pm : link
but I don't see him as every becoming a LBer or a DE in the 4-3 the way the Giants play it. Maybe they take him and change the philosophy. Wouldn't be a bad idea seeing how it gets harder every year to find traditional 4-3 DEs. With the information I have now though, Ray would be a shocking pick.
Ray doesn't have prototypical or ideal DE size but I can't say with
Four Aces : 4/22/2015 4:58 pm : link
any certainty he can't develop into an every down DE for the Giants.
Ray

Could be a nice pick in another system. However, we do NOT need hybrid/projects this year. Mara's pretty much laid down the law on it.

Nope! Would have no problem with Gurley at 9. He has potential to be Adrian Peterson good. Imagine Adrian Peterson on a team with Eli, Odell, Cruz, Randle & Donnell. Would be scary
Eric is right
WillieYoung : 4/22/2015 9:46 pm : link
When has a year 3 or 4 redraft ever remotely resembled the way the players were picked? the 2014 redraft will have OBJ #1 (if he doesn't get injured). That parenthetical brought to you by the last two seasons, Kenny Phillips, Steve Smith and David Wilson
I wouldn't draft Gregory in the Top 10 without the failed drug tests
Torrag : 4/22/2015 10:44 pm : link
He's high cut and lanky. I don't think he will be a good run defender even if he can achieve and maintain his weight in the 260# range. Which is doubtful to begin with. He's a tweener without a low center of gravity. So he can't play full time DE and won't thrive in space as an OLB imo. I don't see a true position for him in any scheme. He should come off the board in the 20's and with the drug concerns could easily fall out of Round 1 completely imo.
Gurley
Dragon : 4/23/2015 11:11 am : link
In the top 20 just does not make any sense, how to do draft someone who can't even run 25 yards today much less cut and shift from one knee to the other. The guy could be a great talent but he could also never return to previous form who knows. If you don't error on the side of caution then you had better be the NE Pats who just won the big dance.

You just can't take that big a gamble on a player who is injured who just let everyone hear my knee is coming along fine now. This is the same guy who would not let anyone touch his knee less than 60 days past, how fortunate or timely is this announcement? Much like the Revis trade to TB some gambles are just not worth it as time has proven more often than not. How many teams can afford to have their #1 pick start the year most likely on the PUP list?
Ray and Gregory will drop
grizz299 : 4/23/2015 11:18 am : link
That makes it more unlikely that White is there.

Two qb's, Fowler, Beasley, Williams, the two WR's...That's seven.
I'm starting to think Parker will be gone too.
