"True nose tackle, big body, clogs up the middle. He's a good one. He's going to go early.'' ..."He likes (Haloti) Ngata and he tries to play him. He comes pretty darn close, too.'' ..."He's the best tackle on our board. He's big and strong and stops the run like the rest. But what makes him the best is he can get to the quarterback, too. I like him.'' ...He looks like a 3-4 nose, a good 3-4 nose, but I wouldn't mind having him at tackle in a 4-3. He's just a real good player.''
Pass rush is not about sack numbers especially from DT. Does the guy get a push and pressure the QB? That's what counts.
Davis was exceptional here especially against the better teams.
How good? Check out the QB pressure % of Davis vs everybody else in college football. He was #8 overall and #7 vs the Big 5 schools. (Better than Willaims at USC).
I really like the guy in round 2 for the Giants. He's a 2 way force with a game that will work in the NFL. QB pressure % stats - ( New Window )

I would be very happy with Davis in the second. Remember that Hankins had only what, one sack, his last year at OSU. But the Giants I think still had a first round grade on him. My only concern with Davis is he apparently came across as aloof and disinterested in interviews, complaining that he was used too much at Iowa, and that he didn't always practice hard.
Those pass rush % numbers included 3-4DE like Odi at UCLA.
He's impresssive. Not only can he handle double teams but he's very athletic and can get down the line and make plays outside of the box. Plus, he will provide a nice interior pass rush.

I'm also in the Davis round 2 camp. Sherff rd1 and Davis rd2 would be a great start to fixing our trenches.
