the angle towards the Giants or Jets going DE in the first--like our needs are interchangeable. If SR dropped to our second, sure. I think we go in a different direction if values are close in the first.
the other day, said the foot hadn't healed per the medical re-check. He'll drop for sure...would hope the Giants stay far away from any defenders with a bad wheel unless it's a run of the mill ankle sprain.
now looking less likely that one of those two WRs will drop to us. Between this and Randy Gregory.
I don't think Ray was going top 8, except as alternative to Gregory, which I doubt. I think the team that was looking at Ray as alternative to Gregory goes back to Gregory.
With almost solely BBI based knowledge of the top 10 players, it appears to me that Cooper and White would be the best picks for the Giants. A 3-4 OLB that I didn't want the Giants to draft anyway likely falling out of the top 10 is bad.
We need a "riser" to come out of nowhere and / or have the Raider and Jets take a major reach on someone.
If it's a 5 month recovery time how does he miss the season? I'd say most likely he ends up on short term IR & plays sometime between week 8-10.
If he is there at 40 the Giants better run to the podium. Yes he may not be a true 4-3 DE, but the guy is a great pass rusher. They could finally get that DE/OLB tweener they've been looking for.
The only non-OL I could see the Giants taking would be Shelton or Waynes. You can come up with good arguments for Scherff, Collins and Peat. I'm not as high on Flowers.
Typically when rookies misses all of training camp, they do squat during the season (OBJ proved this wrong last year though). I wouldn't expect much from him this year, wherever he gets drafted. Especially when a speed rusher, who needs his feet, is coming off of surgery.

Maybe he can contribute something but I wouldn't count on it...maybe the Beason situation has me a bit pessimistic but I wouldn't count on much from him next year.

BREAKING: Per @RapSheet...Mizzou DE Shane Ray saw a foot specialist today. Source said doctors recommendation was not surgery. #2015NFLDraft
Pretty sure Winston, Mariota, Fowler, Williams, Beasley, White and Cooper will be taken before the Giants pick. Question is who will be the 8th one.

I know, but since his pro day I haven't thought that. Not just his 40 time, but they said he looked stiff as a 3-4 OLB.

No chance anyone in the top 10 or 15 is taking a DE with foot problems (if those reports are true).

I think the 8th one will be Gurley, which would leave us with our pick of OL.
Trade down?
If you could get a guy like that in round 2...
Seems like it's going to be OL at 9 for the Giants unless they love Parker or Waynes.
They could go Scherff. So could the Jets.
A team desperate for pass-rush help may push for Gregory earlier than before now since Ray is no longer a great alternative.
