in the NFL that like a philosophy of "wait and let the play come to you". it is almost antithetical to the sport and what a player is probably told their entire career.
used to dealing with the media, to keep toeing the company line and not let an occasional honest, earnest statement leak out. We see this all the time after the coaching carousel revolves, the grass is always greener with the new coach. Give it til mid August, I'm sure he'll find something about Spagnuolo he doesn't like.
On a side note, I think Berhe is a key to this season, one of maybe 6-8 players, some of whom aren't even on the team yet, are going to have to become solid contributors unless we want another middling season hovering around .500
is going to end up responding to the challenge similar to what we saw out of Greg Jackson, Myron Guyton, and Gibril Wilson in that they all were put in the fire with question marks and all played very well.
That said, Berhe is about a learn a lesson in what happens when you make a comment like this to the NY press and the mini firestorm it will create. Players have lots of opinions of what goes on inside the lockerroom and with the coaches. But they generally they learn not to say it. I"m sure that Nat will be getting a little loving guidance from Pat Hanlon and TC at some point today.
we've heard regarding Fewell were that they didn't always grasp their assignments or gameplans (teaching failure, imo), and communication with Fewell was a consistent issue.
Sounds like a kid who has a lot of growing up to do.
Much like Corey Washington who was making similarly disgruntled comments during last season. It is never wise to put these things out there. Be a professional.
I might e reluctant to stat attacking when players seemed to have a problem doing their assignments.
I don't blame the kid. Even beat writers said it was incredibly strange how he was handled. Excels in practice even given first team reps but Demps given snaps let alone starting. It was an incredibly bad look for Perry throughout the season. The way he handles youth vs vets is not beneficial in the salary cap era.
Add to the strangeness. Brown gets benched for the second half against Houston very early in the year. Behre comes in and to my eyes, plays pretty well. The next week, Brown stays on the bench but Demps becomes the starter. That was the most extended playing time Behre got all year.

CiP, lol.
that was also evidenced by the number of uncontested touchdowns the defense allowed where the safety and cornerback were looking at each other like "what just happened"? or the seahawks game where play after play the ends and linebackers failed to contain wilson leaving him wide open for big swaths of the field.
kind of comment can come back and bite you in the ass.
After the Lions game, based on his conference calls, I knew Perry was in full trolling mode last year. The guy said he didn't even talk to the head coach about why certain guys didn't get snaps and laughed it off.
it seems like he meant it as a compliment to Spags more than anything. And that's encouraging to me and pretty consistent with the comments from Spags prior stint.
people get spun up about what players say or tweet all the time, unless it's offensive and will come back to hurt the team or the player I really don't care.
problems that plagued his D started at the top (with him). The players hated playing his scheme and nobody had a true understanding what was going on because of all the built in ambiguities, checks and adjustments.
So glad this guys gone. My favorite moment was when he had the revelation to actually practice the gameplan on the field rather than just the meeting rooms. Followed closely by the "game was moving to fast for me".
better hope he makes every assignment on time & in fighting trim. He just bought himself a program. I remember 2 other safeties of recent vintage: Will Hill & Stevie Brown, who came in and picked things up pretty quickly. Didn't seem too confusing to them, when they were as green as Berhe. Coughlin is sure to take note as the comment will inspire some re-direst sat Coach
Respect the hell out of him for the most part. Problem is when it comes to Defense he's been more wrong then right about his coordinators.
Lewis Sherridan were beyond bad. Spags time here was an A. Fewell IMO got lucky. The talent level of the Superbowl winning team was above what he could screw up. Nice guy and solid but too tier. No way. Innovative. Never.
Spags will be a better Hopefully it will be more than enough to get this team back to the playoffs.
Well after all he has been in the NFL almost a year
and as a 5th round pick and special team player, he's entitled to discuss his views on strategy with the Defensive Coordinator instead of say, his position coach.
Hilariously, there will be people here who will seize upon the comments of this doofus as vindication.
Don't get what people are getting spun up about. The kid is complimenting Spags & also repeating what some vets were saying last year, to include the beloved Trel. Move along people, nuttin' ta see here.

We faced the toughest road ever, Green Bay at home, San Fran on the road..two of the most potent offenses of modern times...then NE and Brady. We shut them all down with a Strahan less offense playing Chase Blackburn in a critical role. And the trashed rejected limited Ross at one cornerback and the other cornerback a guy whose career was dead until Fewell came back and .,,,,,,,,,
Seems those guys understood their assignments. What crapola, Demps misses perfectly designed blitzes, next day it's all about Fewell never blitzing.
Communication goes way up when you have guys can make plays.
If he never coaches another down, I love the guy. Thanks again for that exciting and well earned superbowl run Coach Fewell, Sir!.
Nat Berhe wants this year's Giants D to "attack ... Last year we kind of waited and reacted."
Nat Berhe: "Coach Perry Fewell, I wish him all the best. That's pretty much it."

Last year for him only. Every year under PF for us.

The 2 divisional games in 2012 when the Cowboys and Eagles went entire halves without punting?
Good times..

I got that feel about him too. Never liked him.
