Tonight we can punch our ticket to the Conference Semi-Finals in a cool 5 games if we're able to take care of business. I think we've seen about the best we're going to get from the Pens in this series. Between injuries and lack of depth, they're just not very good. Crosby is still good enough to do the damage on his own as he did in Game 2 but fuck that shit.
Major opportunity to get out of a first round in less than 7 games here, which is something we've not done since Renney was behind the bench and we disposed of LOLDevils in 5 back in 2008.
Klein is 50/50 to go tonight per AV. Sounds like it's basically Klein's call at this point.
No bullshit. Start fast, score first and have them with one foot on the golf courses nice and early.
#LGR
I forgot what that looks like.
Not to count unhatched chickens, but it sure would be nice to seal this up tonight.
Him and B in ALB wearing their Halak jerseys lately. Pathetic.
Worse than hudson.
And with Mook deciding a Garth Brooks concert is more important than playoff hockey, it's down to MAB, Greg, and I to lead us to victory.
Fuck these fake fans.

Win tonight and the team will probably have 4-5 days off.

hudson's over there offering his support as well. Pretty soon he's going to just root for every team so he can win the cup every year.
Go Caps.
Real fans don't put on their Ice Girls outfit during the playoffs. Are you going to the Barn burning Saturday? Maybe have a parade around the Turnpike for making the playoffs, topping it off with a Big Mac at McDonald's?
Get the fuck out of here you Islander-loving, cunt.
We don't need this shit.

Garth Brooks at Penn State. But he has great seats!
Although, the prospect of a silent "Fort Neverlose" closing down after yet another 1st round exit is pretty tempting to want to see.
Let them keep beating the crap out of each other for another 6 periods.

I was watching and cheering on the Rangers when you were just a bad idea in daddy's head.
You're a liability. Always have been. The Rangers have been winning despite the glaring holes in your game. Step it the fuck up tonight little guy.
If they lose tonight it's on you. Plain and fucking simple.
Isn't that just special. Fuckin Yinz clownshow.
As for our beloved Blueshirts, for the love of God, please put your skate blades on their throats and do away with the Yinz tonight! See you at The World's Most Famous Arena ...unless of course you prefer the twangy arena echo of Garth Brooks. "Oh we got both kinds, we got Country aaand Western"!!!
Excellent stuff.
Garth rules. Fuck the haters. I'll see some of it on my phone. LGR
Same. Thank God for DVR
Disappointed in Mook, not because of Garth Brook, but because it's at Penn State.
Quote:
The Rangers have been really bad -- and I mean about as bad as they possibly can be -- at ending series early in recent memory. To the tune of sporting a 3-12 record when leading by a game in the playoffs.
That stat can't be right. They won all 3 games in the Montreal series when they were up a game last year and are 1-1 vs Pitt in this series. Plus, we're up 2 games right now not 1.
So, Game 7 wins wouldn't count.
So, Game 7 wins wouldn't count.
Game 7 wins don't count? You may want to check the math on how many game 7s got counted.
Only games where they were up 3-2, 3-1, 3-0
Only games where they were up 3-2, 3-1, 3-0
Keep going, you'll figure it out
No shit, now what's that got to do with the Montreal series last year that went 6 games or the fact that they won games 2,4,6 in that series while up 1-0,2-1,3-2?
Games in which they could win the series while being up one or more games.
Which means they'd have to be at 3 wins, not 1 or 2.

They never led a series in 2013. They were behind or tied with the Caps going into Game 7 and fell behind the Bruins 0-3.
2014:
1-0 on PHI - L
2-1 on PHI - L
3-2 on PHI - L
1-0 on PIT - L
1-0 on MON - W
2-0 on MON - L
2-1 on MON - W
3-1 on MON - L
3-2 on MON - W
3-13. It's actually worse.
2-1 on Pit W
They are 4-1 in their last 5.
They've only had 4 chances to close the series out, and are 1-3 in those.
I was only counting games where they were up a game like you said in your post, you should have up at least a game to be a little more clear.
Regardless, they have done better in the last few opportunities when up in a series so hopefully tonight continues that turnaround.

Either drop the gloves or stop dancing.
If I'm right, you're wrong.
If I'm wrong, you're assertion that the stat can't be right is wrong based on Greg's numbers.
Unless you want to say that (since Greg's numbers actually show a worse case) you were saying it was worse than stated (which you weren't)

Show me where I'm wrong? Greg made it worse when he included a game where they were up 3-1 which is not up 1 game. Those numbers don't include this series, which they are 1-1 in such games making the real numbers 4-13.
And of course that stat is somewhat meaningless since we are up 2 games tonight, not 1.
But wednesday night offered some hope - extended a series lead against a starting goalie and won in overtime for once.
And I don't blame Brett for skipping game 2 (though the twat did start the game thread - attention whore) - game 2 with this group is a never ending kick in the nuts. Only game 2 I can remember winning in the last 6-7 years is the game where hank stood on his head in montreal (and we were badly outplayed that night)
Game 2 for rangers fans is like kicking yourself in the nuts over and over.
And to answer the other guy - tampa is not looking back in that series now. Detroit had their shot and they blew it. But they've still got to get through carey price... Will be a tough series
It's going to drive me crazy wanting to know what's happening. Do I check the score from time to time on my iPhone or wait until I get home whenever that might be and watch it then. Of course will I be able to completely insulate myself that long without someone or something dropping the ball on me in the way of the score.

Who is the "other guy" and what exactly was the question?
But you do bring up an interesting point about parm - many here still think that meal leads to rangers victories. Yet that guy now plays for tampa. Are parm eaters now closet lightning fans?
Fortunately, tears make great lube.
I still think that if Michael Sauer doesn't get hurt in 2011, the Rangers might have at least gotten past the Devils that year. Their D looked gassed and Sauer was a solid D-man, from what I recall a 2nd pair guy, who would have allowed Torts to spread out the minutes (plus Torts trusted him, so he'd actually play him).
I can't guarantee anything cause that would be a jinx, but I had chicken parm for lunch and I got my lucky 2012 winter classic snapback on so I'm at least trying to do my part.
The team was a shit first seed in 2011-2012 and an underdog many other years.
Killer instinct, etc. are all bullshit IMO. They just haven't been that good of a team.
Luck? Maybe but 17 is a pretty decent sample size
Anyway - we haven't played our best postseason hockey yet. Hopefully its coming. I really think we should be scoring 4 a night against this team - I don't care what 'system' they are playing. Our guys should be winning more individual battles.
Let's see a 5-2 ass kicking tonight and look forward to our 6 days off. Nhl doesn't move up series when teams finish early - bruins and habs both waited a week last year. Game 1 seems to be set up for thursday 4/30
This is the first year in some time I've felt the Rangers should win with some degree of ease. And despite the scores, they've still largely controlled play this series. Pittsburgh has played a bit of Torts hockey - a smart move when you're overmatched. I actually think the Rangers would have greater leads if the Penguins puck-moving dmen were in there - a transition, fast-paced game favors the Rangers.
The beard is oiled
Time to send the fucking yinzers to the first tee
End this shit tonight!
This isn't last year's team or, indeed, similar to any team of this decade. This is a team in transition. Nash and MSL are there to provide some stability - to keep the emotions in check - but the heart of this team is the youth. Not that Nash and MSL won't play a role in the scoring - but the point being this team can win with Nash and MSL playing supporting roles.
Penns will come out fast and hard - but I think this team will show just who they are when they close out this series early - tonight.
LGR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The PP looks a lot better tonight.
Yeah you can, you can score more goals off a crappy, banged up defense. MAF has played well, but many of our shots have not been top quality, a lot of his saves have been on positioning. That is not something that should be lost in this.
Put the fucking puck in the net. They've been plAying 3 nhl calibre defensemen for 5 fucking games now. For Nash to be this invisible is disgusting.
The Rangers have skated circles around the Penguins. If not for MAF, this game would be over already. One fluke garbage goal doesn't mean that the game's at risk. The Pens have managed to outskate the Rangers for a grand total of 100 seconds.

Nash has had a handful of opportunities and is moving the puck well. Certainly isn't invisible.

The dumbest thing I ever read is saying that we haven't scored because of MAF. When you shoot the puck into the mans chest, it is easy to save. Is he playing well? Yes. Should we be shooting higher quality shots? I think so. I don't think our finishing has been great all series. The other night we couldn't hit the net if we tried and tonight it seems like we are just shooting it into the center of his chest and not getting good wood on the puck.
If you don't recognize that MAF has had to make at least a half dozen excellent saves, IDK what to say.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
We need someone this year to step it the fuck, up and put this team on their Back. Should be Nash. But hey - if he is skating pretty out there and back checking well.. Fine... But enough horsing around with a team missing half it's defense and Malkin far less than 100 %. We need the week off - we've got some banged up bodies and gAme 6 on the road not easy in any event.
Stop fucking around out there Brett and bring this home
Girardi takes down Crosby.
Penalty.
Gotta call it even.
This team has had a higher shooting percentage this season due to generating high quality scoring chances. This team is a lot different than last year.
And you saying it's not black and white is in stark contrast to saying crediting MAF is the dumbest thing you've ever heard a few minutes ago.
You don't know what you're watching and can't construct an argument, basically.
On the Pittsburgh PP Crosby hit the crossbar but I think Henrik got a piece of it with the glove

Ok, if you think we are simply not scoring because of MAF, you don't understand what you are watching. And, we generated more opportunities this year because of our speed game, which Pittsburgh has taken away. This series looks more like last year than anything I have seen this year. So drop your condescending nonsense.
Getting out shot 13-2 in the 3rd.

Wide open
We aren't scoring in part because we aren't finishing, to say it is all Fleury is dumb. We haven't scored more than 2 goals now in four of five games. but yeah it's all Fleury; got ya.
B) Your initial point was that scoring more can some how prevent fluke goals against.
That's just stupid.
C) The Rangers have had more scoring chances this game than last game.
Which means MAF has had to work harder.

You're comparing this game to the entire series when this one is a lot more wide-open (evidenced by War on Ice's scoring chance stat that shows the Rangers have 50% more scoring chances than we did last game).
Keep changing your argument.
Hey wuhpat, if you couldn't understand that this meant impact, maybe you should go to school and study reading comprehension.
Except Boyle's played well since game three.

You disagreed with a non-sequitur about scoring more goals.
I reiterated that scoring more goals does nothing to prevent fluky goals.
At no point was the topic of discussion regarding the impact of the goals. It was about the prevention of them.
Every time your shitty argumentation was shot down you moved to some other equally fallacious point.
Keep digging.

My point has always been, score more and you don't have to worry about fluky goals
And it only took you an hour to get to that point out when the original point spoke only to the prevention of said goals.
To introduce that without actually introducing it explicitly and expect the reader to mind read your intention is on you.

Geezus wuph is this a debate contest? His point was right to begin with. If they had scored on any one of half a dozen chances that goal means little.

Ottawa isn't gone yet. Let them all go 7 games
Just wanted to point out I was basically correct because Hagelin was filling in for Glass on that line.
Hags has consistently raised his game in the playoffs since his rookie season. Awesome to see him get that winner. Now rest up!

There's no reseeding anymore, so the Rangers play the winner of the Caps/Islander series.
Nash is simply not the Nash of the first 2/3 of the season. That Nash was skating fast and striking even faster. This version is losing one on one battles down the ice and doesn't seem nearly as fast.
Love when you get those great nights across multiple sports. Good stuff.

Genius.
Nobody outside of maybe MSL is playing poorly. Few guys playing below potential (Zucc prior to the injury today), but no one is dragging the team down.
Agree there's no anchor, though

Yandle has been solid and the stuff he put on Crosby the other night was a thing of beauty.

They are all playing well. Boyle is a little weak handling the puck, but his d is ok. Four solid lines and 3 solid defense pairings.
Who sits when Klein comes back - Hunwick?
Onto round 2....
Congrats, fellas. Well-deserved win. Aside from one little hiccup where the Yinz just crashed the net, we kept Sindy and Malkin at bay for the whole game. Gotta give it to the Yinz though. They took us to the limit despite being undermanned. MAF was fantastic the whole series and it certainly wasn't his fault that they lost.
Way to be clutch, Hags. Rest up, get well soon, Zuccs and Klein and let's keep some ass in a few days.
Hopefully enough time to get Klein and Zuccs back, and everybody else who's sore at the moment some much needed rest.
I'm indifferent on who we play - each present challenges and opportunities. My concern with Washington is their heavy hitting wearing us down later in a series + their postseason experience... versus the Islanders would be a media zoo, extra intensity, plus a little more talent on their roster than WAS.
We 'should' advance past either but its the playoffs... nothing's easy and it usually comes down to a few inches.
Enjoying these ~6 days off!!
Ugh. And to think we could've signed him and he would've been cheaper than Tanner Glass. That's why I was saying all offseason we should sign Winnik.

Anak, Winnik was awful. That's what arc is saying. He was a -6 in the series and we only scored 8 even strength goals. That's pretty hard to do. So yeah, good signing suggestion?

I know, I was being sarcastic. I was echoing what we were saying in the offseason. I was one of them. I did want Winnik over Glass.
djm, i seem to remember him having at least 3/4 BAD give aways because of panicked passing in EACH if the last two.
I want him to do well, but he looks overwhelmed to me. He looked much better earlier in the series. But i am literally nervous whenever he is on the ice
He makes some of the best crisp, on the tape passes I have seen from a Ranger Dman in quite a while.
Him, Hayes, Kreider, Hags, Zucc, Fast, Brassard, Stepan, some of our guys in juniors and the mimors, and our deep defensive corps really set us up for long term competitiveness.
I'm just a little disappointed there hasnt been more overtime in that one.
Hoping for a few OT on Monday too.
