NFT: Wait its Friday, what have learned this week,

section125 : 4/24/2015 12:35 pm
besides Fearless Friday Leader is absent again?

I learned Cashman weakened our pitching staff because he traded Shane Green (a #4 or #5 starter) for Didi Gregorious.

A fifth round

safety who had trouble adjusting to the pro game in his first season makes an off-the-cuff comparison between defensive coordinators, one of whom he only spoke with briefly, and BBI oozes all over their pants to rehash old stupidities about miscommunications.

Plus our recently departed defensive coordinator only cared about being one of the guys on the sideline instead of coaching.

Yeah semi, it was interesting that Behre did not like Perry Fewell. I took it positively. It may be indicative of the rest of the defense. He clearly stated he disliked the read and react style. Maybe, just maybe, the DBs troubles through the past five years were a product of the defensive mis-teaching.
Who is this...

just a few questions. What defense doesn't require a safety to "read and react?" Also, how could a read and react team end up top five in sacks for three (2010, 2011, 2014) out of the last five seasons?

I learned that Justin Pugh

Semi - I guess you're right that safeties are so far off the line all they can do is read the play and react to it. IDK - but he obviously didn't like the Giants style of defense. You know as well as I do that this is not the 1st time it has trickled out that the players didn't like the style of defense they were playing - like taking man to man / press coverage CBs and having them drop 10 yds off the line on 3rd and short.

As to sacks, if you had to play as many defensive plays as the Giants did the last 5 years, chances are eventually they'd get sacks. But then that begs the question - if the Giants defensive line is so bad, how did they get those sacks?
Semi - BTW

I know you know Xs and Os better than me, so if you think Berhe is talking out his ass, I accept that.

just to be clear, I don't think Berhe was really talking out of his ass rather than trying to praise the new boss coming in and making a few meaningless off the cuff remarks that BBI ran with as Gospel from up high because it made Spags look better than Fewell.

Like I said before, Beason's comment about defensive players needing to do what is necessary including accepting responsibility for errors could have been interpreted as a shot at Rolle. BBI didn't take it that way partly because of the wording and partly because Rolle is now a popular Giant. We shouldn't use popularity contests to assess blame but we do
