NFT: More uplifting fraternity news!

DanMetroMan : 4/24/2015 12:42 pm
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The University of Florida is investigating allegations that members of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity spat at a group of disabled military veterans last weekend at a resort in Panama City Beach.

In an email to Linda Cope, the founder of the Warrior Beach Retreat at Laketown Wharf Resort, University of Florida President Kent Fuchs called the behavior unacceptable and promised a full investigation.

The incidents were reported to Fuchs by Cope and others who witnessed the fraternity members spitting at the veterans and stealing their flags. Fuchs said the school is making every effort to learn what happened and take appropriate action.

The Gainesville Sun reports the fraternity is currently on conduct probation for a hazing incident in the fall semester. The fraternity has suspended operations and is cooperating with the investigation.

also. At least the UF chapter is investigating and promising to oust any of it's members involved.

Who ever thought this was a good idea?

Disgusting.

They should be very careful if they ever return to the Panhandle. Practically everyone down there is either active duty or a veteran. From Pensacola to PCB, there are seven bases, one of which is the largest AF base in the country.

This fucking real? Fucking scumbags.

Group mentality makes morons. Frats are just acquired friends anyway. Their traditions are boring and lame.

one of those bases is Hurlburt Field

Which is the headquarters of AF Special Operations. There are some serious badasses stationed there. I wouldn't fuck with a combat controller. When I was in Yuma, one of our controllers was a former AF combat controller. He took a lot of shit about being prior Air Force....until we did some MCMAP (Marine martial arts) training as a squadron, and he showed us all a little bit of what he was capable of.
was this a fraternity trip
PaulBlakeTSU : 4/24/2015 1:10 pm : link
or was the the result of a few guys who are friends and happen to be members of the same fraternity?
it was an official trip

Bring back the draft

These young people need to appreciate military service.
the last thing the military wants is a draft

There are enough disgruntled assholes who were volunteers as it is.

"You're out! Finished at Faber! Expelled! I want you off this campus at 9 o'clock Monday morning. And I've reached out to your draft boards and told them you were all, all eligible for military service"

Seriously, it sounds like there were a few people who deserved an ass kicking. Too bad the resorts private security force didn't say "And we're just the ones to do it"
I've been in college

I've been in a fraternity
I've been drunk

But there's nothing I can conceive of that would make behavior of this sort even imaginable to anyone I know.
The problem is, too few people experience a good ole fashioned
jcn56 : 4/24/2015 1:32 pm : link
ass kicking anymore. Nowadays, it's either guns, knives, groups jumping individuals, or people who refrain from dispensing some good old fashioned knuckle justice because of liability from lawsuits.

What these guys needed was to be seen and then beaten to a bloody pulp, so that they remembered their transgression and never repeated it.
I was a pretty rotten

person as an adolescent and even to some extent as a young adult. I couldn't imagine as rotten as I was ever including people with a disability or veterans as a target of my behavior. Even in a group setting which absolutely brings out the worst in some people (and I was no exception).

I try not to judge based on headlines, since every story has two sides, but this sounds pretty damning since there were witnesses. surprised there is no video.

It's traditionally been a mostly Jewish fraternity, so I am seriously like, what the fuck, Yeshiva-buchers???

The rest of what I have to say is unprintable because too soon and what the fuck.

INDEED!!!
My undergrad school didn't have fraternities.
TheManUpstairs : 4/24/2015 3:21 pm : link
. . . so the issue didn't arise for me. But some of my best friends now were in fraternities back in the day, so I've always tried to take this stuff with a grain of salt. But it's getting harder to just say, "Oh, it's just boys being boys." Some of these fraternities shouldn't be around.
