what happened to his knees. between him, kenny phillips and david wilson, we lost three first round picks who had very high ceilings to debilitating/career limiting or ending injuries.

I believe what derailed Nicks was a soft tissue injury. Compartment Syndrome to be precise. It could have cost him his leg, apparently.
I do agree with everybody that Nicks in his prime was a joy...
The beating Eli took in San Francisco, dropping back 58 times in those condition... And then of course the Superbowl itself, specifically the Manningham catch.
Nicks was excellent. I just think Eli was the MVP of that team, and season.
After the 2012 playoff run and his performance/production during it, which I believe is the 2nd best by a WR in playoff history, I thought he'd go down as the greatest WR in franchise history. At his best he was strikingly similar to Michael Irvin. Not the fastest, yet regularly found himself behind defenses. Not the strongest but it often took more than one man to bring him down. Not the biggest but he'd fight like a dog and come down with the majority of contested balls.
Incredibly disappointing that his body couldn't hold up, he could've been a truly great one.
nicks' 2011 playoff performance was more impressive than burress in 2007 but not by a landslide. plax had a huge game against green bay and obviously run a great route on the winning touchdown. i don't recall him standing out particularly in the tampa or dallas games.
Except for one club mishap, Nicks might never have been a Giant.
Good thing a grown man was dumb enough to carry a handgun with no external safety in the waistband of his sweatpants, or else I don't think the a Giants win that 4th SB...

least get back to the Super Bowl in '08 if Plax doesn't shoot himself. I have no idea if they beat Pittsburgh, but I would love to have found out. Jimmy Johnson, the late Eagles DC, even said the Giants offense was a totally different animal after Plax. Yeah, he wasn't having a repeat of his '07 season, but he was still a dude you had to account for & without him there, the entire defensive strategy towards our offense changed.
I hope Nicks can resurrect his career. He was destined for greatness, but injuries have pretty much robbed him of that.
Nicks is done, and he knew it was coming fast two years ago when he played half-heartedly to just ensure some type of new "show-me" contract would still be available.
Too bad as he was one of my favorite Giants albeit for a short period.
his play during last Super Bowl run is still one of the unsung performances in Giants 's history.
It was sweet how Nicks threw a bunch of passes to himself, ala Mr. Perfect.
Silly statement imv

Not saying I agree with him, but with that POV Stafford>Megatron
I wish him well.

He's not Megatron, but for a stretch he was our poor man's version of Megatron, doing things that definately had a "wow factor".
28 catches, 444 yards, 4 tds. 3 of those tds were all Hakeem. Taking 5-10 yard catches to the house and out muscling defenders for a hail mary.
His avg was 7 catches 111 yards and a td per game.
I wouldn't agree. But Nicks was the Green Bay game and I think averaged 100+ over the playoffs. He was excellent.

Britt that actually made me laugh out loud.
My answer, too.

Before or after Burress apparently fell out of a bathtub for the 2nd time that season? He could barely move in the Super Bowl.
Assuming they're healthy, I'm taking the acrobat in Burress.

Wrong
Love nicks, but your way off.

You don't think they win in 2008?
That is a lot of top end talent that was effectively done by the age of 25.
even Sintim, while not a good fit, wrecked his knee at 24
Injuries happen to every team, but not to top level players that young, who do not come back

That defense kicked fhe crap out of Philly. Eli stunk and appeared to need Burress.
