I'm back to where I was weeks ago with Scherff and La'el Collins as the only two worth drafting in the top ten. Either could start immediately at OLG and they would add toughness and physicality to the running game. So they would bring more to the table than simply being another cog in the line.
think we are in a very good spot to get an OL at 9...our spot matches our need. If a WR drops fine, but this is a good spot to get one of the tackle/guards.
if we were in the top 3 we'd get Leonard Williams but is he really Reggie WhiteII? Im sure he is going to be great, but I'm not sure anyone in this draft is a top 5 player other than this draft. At 9 we are going to get a WR if one drops or a OL that is better than 9 but the 2 QB's pushed him into our laps.

It's a good spot to get the pick of the litter, but it's hard to get all excited about it after reading some of those quotes. I know, I know, I'm overreacting. As George Young would say, it's paralysis by over-analysis (he said that was why Joe Montana fell to the 3rd round).
p.s.-- As for the WR's, Cooper isn't getting out of the top five and the rest aren't worth the 9th pick when there will be excellent WR prospects to choose from on day two and even day three.
if they have a 7.2 grade on White and the next WR is a 6.9, do you pass on White?
I understand that the guy they would get with the 40th, 74th, or 108th pick isn't going to be as good as the guy they get with the 9th pick; but the Giants don't need to add a top ten type WR when they already have a #1WR in OBJ and the best slot receiver in the game in Cruz. Ultimately it could even become problematic when you consider the WR ego.
They don't need another great receiver, they need another good one. It's kind of like those times in baseball when a walk is as good as a hit.
If you pass on great because of other needs and unforeseen circumstances
happens to your great player you look back and kick yourself in the ass as a franchise for passing on a great player. Worse cases is you are "stuck" with 2 great players at a position.
I've liked Scherff since Day 1. Powerful, athletic, rep as a hard worker, he's a guy who could start for us immediately, though where exactly he would start remains to be seen.
But if the OL and the WR are equally graded, I wouldn't take the WR just because the team puts a higher premium on the WR position. As Reese said, when you are drafting in the top ten, every position is a premium position.
RE: I wouldn't pass on Cooper or White if one slips
He will be a killer Guard, and should be able to also play RT. Put him out there with Pugh and let them battle it out. One ends up at T and one at G,but in the end we have really upgraded our line.
for months now. These inside reports that seem to have the Giants ignoring Collins makes me a little dissapointed/confused. Hopefully it's just misdirection.
Collins is one of the best Guard prospects I've ever seen. And he's someone that will be able to play Tackle down the road once he refines his footwork a bit.
He's just the best OL in this draft and imo it's fairly clearcut. Scherff flies around with power and Peat/Flowers have the blue goose ceiling, but Collins is a nasty bouncer out there tossing people out of the club every damn night. We're a team that craves versatility and NEEDS nastiness on the OL, Collins gives us both of those in spades. I really hope he's the pick.
Even Parker assuming Cooper and White are gone and take our chances on OL in round 2. Better value on OL in round 2 IMO. None of these guys warrant the 9 pick. When you pick this high I'm all for getting an impact playmaker. Just my opinion.
I wouldn't say that the Giants "crave versatility" as a general matter. They were looking for it when they drafted Pugh because they were trying to replace Dave Diehl. Doesn't mean that it's a top concern at every OL spot-- they sunk pretty high picks in guys like Beatty and Snee mostly based on how well they play 1 position, not 3 or 4.
IMO, it's important to have versatile backups, and for a couple of your starters to be flexible and able to play in multiple spots on short notice. But apart from that, versatility takes a back seat to excellence. Pugh, Schwartz, and Richburg give the team a healthy amount of versatility among starters. They can afford to take on a teammate who concentrates on one spot and is great at it, like McKenzie and Snee did.
After that ...beats me
Agreed. I hope a DE or WR that they like falls to #9.
Exactly.. id rather get a OL guy later.. but it all depends on who is on the board.

If there was a "perfect" OL there, he'd go at spots 1-3. We're at a good spot.
