Rock Newsday: Snee volunteers and helps NYG evaluate OL

Defenderdawg : 4/25/2015 6:51 pm
"Snee said he liked the toughness and nastiness of Iowa's Brandon Scherff. "He's got that in him," Snee said of the fire he and the Giants like to see from their linemen. Miami's Erick Flowers, he said, "has a little edge to him" but "he'd be a work in progress."

I'd love Snee on the staff. Talk about a 100% guy.

what the insiders have been saying...

Scherff and Flowers at the top, Peat 3rd, Collins not even in the mix

Snee volunteered to help offensive line coach Pat Flaherty grade video of college players as the Giants prepared for the upcoming draft. Among the players he was asked to study were several who have been linked to the Giants and their ninth overall selection on Thursday night.

And he did not get a chance to study LSU's La'el Collins.

The Giants ask him to look at some guys, he looks at Scherff/Flowers/Peat but doesn't look at Collins. Guess I can stop dreaming about Collins in blue.

Keep in mind that in past drafts the Giants have selected guys that they haven't even spoken to (Aaron Ross etc.).
The time closely leading up to the draft is filled....
Emlen'sGremlins : 4/25/2015 7:10 pm : link
....with smoke screens.
yea but this feels more telling
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 4/25/2015 7:10 pm : link
why wouldn't you want Snee's opinion on a potential OL prospect?
Maybe just maybe
est1986 : 4/25/2015 7:35 pm : link
Peat, Scherff, Flowers, Humphries, Clemmings, and maybe one or even two more lineman go before the Giants 2nd pick. is there a shot in the dark Collins is there for that 2nd pick?
didn't necessarily say
bc4life : 4/25/2015 7:36 pm : link
Collins wasn't in the mix. said he hadn't watched him and that you needed one day per OL.

If I'm the Giants and he's doing this for the team, even though his opinion isn't binding - I'd tell him to keep his opinions confidential
Make no mistake
TMS : 4/25/2015 7:47 pm : link
Snee's involvement has significance in this choice. This is a an organization agreed decision. OL at #9 will be the pick IMO.
Pugh and now Snee
Archer : 4/25/2015 8:24 pm : link
I think that there is some misinformation being disseminated.

The Giants would not allow Pugh and Snee make statements unless they were previously edited.

The fact that both of them are making such positive comments about Scherff seems choreographed and contrived. I think that there is a smoke screen being set to conceal their real intentions.

What's the difference. Do you see anybody trying to jump in front of the Giants to get Scherff?

You can still blow smoke up people's asses while still getting an honest opinion from Snee on the OL prospects.

There will be plenty of lineman at 40 that we could be looking at as well that Snee could be helping to evaluate.

I honestly feel the media and fans are being played with the talk of Flowers at 9. Listening to evaluations of the lineman, Flowers is not close to being the best (Peat) or potentially the best (Humprhies).

The Rams will probably be content to take whoever the Giants don't take before them for the 2nd year in a row. Just like they got Donald last year, they can get a great pick at O-Line this year.
This is not a talented draft
SGMen : 4/25/2015 9:45 pm : link
if the Giants think Scherf can do for the Giants what Z. Martin did for Dallas maybe he is the choice
I think that Scherff will be in the tier of players the Giants get to
PatersonPlank : 4/25/2015 9:57 pm : link
choose from. I think White and Cooper will be gone. With the top need being OL, and if my opinion is right and Scherff is in this group of 3 or so guys, then I think he's the guy. He can play T or G, so let him and Pugh battle it out. One ends up at G and one ends up at T. We will be much improved, since Richburg will now be at C and Schwartz is back.

Allow?

Good fucking hell. Some of you cats are way too conspiratorial.

Sherff is a target. And possibly the top OL target for the Giants for a reason.

Settle down.

Disinformation? There's not a ton of that going around at 9 unless they're poised to deal. And that's not happening.

Occam's Razor type shit here. Breath a little bit.

I sometimes get that mixed up with beer.
I thought it odd that Reese said that Scherff
George from PA : 4/25/2015 11:56 pm : link
Can be both a tackle and guard.

Whrn does he say anything about anyone.

I took Pugh as candid but Snee won't talk unless directed.
If Collins is there at 40...

Stranger things ha e happened ..
Flowers
cosmicj : 4/26/2015 3:39 am : link
A lot of BBI comments about Flowers' technique problems leading him to be a potential reach at #9. To me, that is an incorrect conclusion to draw from watching his tape. The Giants may instead see a physically imposing prospect who performed well despite poor coaching and think he may emerge as a top shelf NFL linemen given proper training by the Giants staff. That would be the mirror image of Scherff, an older player who was given excellent training in college.

That's hypothetical, but we don't know enough to state confidently what Flowers' lack of development means.

Flowers is also very young, he just turned 21 thus last week.
The problem is the Deadskins at 6
FStubbs : 4/26/2015 8:17 am : link
They have a real GM now and they're almost assuredly going OL unless Mariota is there at 6 and Chip Kelly goes silly.
Oops.

Deadskins at 5.
and we could all be wrong and a
mrvax : 4/26/2015 8:19 am : link
defensive guy that was supposed to be off the board by #9 could be sitting there.

Don't put in much time thinking through this other than to try and grade each position individually.
This was an interesting comment from Snee
UberAlias : 4/26/2015 8:22 am : link
Snee said the Giants gave him a list of criteria to judge the prospects as he watched them. That would be an interesting list to see.
What this says to me
Headhunter : 4/26/2015 8:35 am : link
there is no OL that is the clear cut choice.
I can't believe Snee was able to give that commentary.
Jimmy Googs : 4/26/2015 8:35 am : link
Now all 31 teams are going to know we may likely try and shore up that position at #9 and go with an Offensive Lineman.

Teach 'em how to snarl Rock.
Victor in CT : 4/26/2015 8:36 am : link
Good to see Snee involved. He brought plenty of nasty to the game.

This is not necessarily true. For example, I think Scherff is the pick if he is there, but he may not be there for us pending on how things play out (among the OL, he is the one guy who you often see going ahead of us).

And then there are questions of, do you like an OL over a talent in a position of lesser need? If they have a choice between White or your top OL, which way do they go? What about your #2 OL vs. a guy like Parker, Waynes, Shereidan, Gurley or whoever?

It is not only ranking the linemen, it is also a matter of, do they like them enough to pass up on some other talent that may be available.
I cant see giants taking gurley at 9
CGiants07 : 4/26/2015 9:01 am : link
he would have to be a fall back in case we trade down guy. I think OL or DL are most likely followed by wr or cb
See knows what
TMS : 4/26/2015 5:13 pm : link
it takes to make it as an Ol in this league. He also knows the chemistry that is necessary for the whole line to work as a unit. His OL was not that talented individually but worked as a unit very well. Great addition.
