A broken jaw and he'd probably be able to play - a concussion and who knows if he's back for the playoffs.
Did Stepan have a broken jaw last year.
Personally, I think a concussion would be shorter. Broken jaw is about 6-8 weeks, concussion can be as short as three days, but yes could be weeks.
you know.... the place where any idiot company protecting its multi-billion business would have protection.
First we lose a guy for the playoffs two years ago because no one made him wear a visor. Then we lose a goalie for 2 months and lucky it wasnt more because of how easy it is to dislodge his neck protector. Sauer's career is over over a fairly innocuous hit into the boards.
Now this.
Hope its not too severe but I'm at a loss to understand why the NHL doesnt care more about its players. This isnt that hard.

Anyway, watching the replays below... its a pretty clear concussion no? Zuccs is wobbling on the bench. Head shot - ( New Window )
look at adam wainwright last night...nothing announced , everyone is saying its torn achilles
Hockey is the least transparent sport of all when it comes to injuries so I refuse to read into time tables and form conjecture anymore. Travis Hamonic skated off the ice 3 weeks ago with an injury now and I still have no idea what happened to him or when/if he'll be back.
There's 3 levels (as a fan) of understanding an injury and all of them still just lead to more speculation.
-Not practicing
-Practicing with the "don't touch me" jersey
-Full practice
Based on all of those you can combine a basic understanding of conditioning to take an educated guess on when a player is gonna return (if you knew how long he's been out). But that's it. Football's transparency is one of the things I love about the sport.
but even with protection in that ear hole, you take a hard shot to the head, and see Zucc's immediate reaction, which is to reel, rocked, and hunker down--it's all he can do to get to the bench--it's head trauma.
No two individuals are alike in absorbing, reacting, and recovering from this. It could be five days, could be five weeks.
Hopefully, the team docs have his long term health as their first priority. Sucks for the SCPlayoffs, but do no harm to him, whatever the cost.
Promote him and promise him Sather's job when he steps down. Keep him in the organization. Gordie Clark is better off staying in PP where he is now. BTW the Boston ownership like Philly is very reactionary with a lot of drama. Stay in NY Jeff...'ole Glenn will be gone soon enough.
... NHL players still don't wear a cage, or full face shield. How many injuries are there thar are preventable, or a face guard would greatly reduce the severity...?
They're going to call up someone from Hartford after their playoff game tomorrow. Not sure who that callup would be. Zucc is a tough player to replace.
yet another significant head injury to this franchise. And completely preventable with 21st century technology, or even with what you are forced to wear as you grow up and into the league, on top of it.
But we're fortunate to only have 1 guy shelved this late in the season. There are plenty of teams past and present who don't want to hear the excuses. It's hockey. Hopefully he can get back soon.

Yeah and he was getting worn out as the series moved on. That was against Montreal. By the Cup Finals he just looked tired. Lack of solid food?

Is that true? I remember 2 years ago Crosby had a broken jaw and missed the last 6-8 weeks of the season.

I'm sure Stepan would have missed significant time if it had been the regular season like Crosby's was.
Plus... as with any injury, i doubt "broken jaws" are all created equally.
Anyway - watch the clip... looks like a concussion to my webmd eye.

Report: Bruins express interest in Rangers' Jeff Gorton for vacant GM position
Klein says he's ready for game 1.

Get well Zucc. SMH.
Staal also clearly nursing something significant too - but he's muscling through it for now.
I'm guessing he's back in a week or two at most.
Nah, there was definitely malicious intent there. McDonagh despises Zuccarello
