Both Nats and Braves lost. It's early, but the Nats can dig themselves into a hole they will be spending all summer digging out of. Can really put it to them next weekend with 4 games at Citi Field

"That's it. Yankees win. Take the series, two of three. Now get that Empire State Building back to navy and white." Good week for yanks 3 outta 4 from Detroit and 2 outta 3 mets.
But it's still April. Lots of loads being shot around the league right now. Lots. Of loads.
Need to start getting consistent offense from a few spots and smooth out the defense, but on the whole they're doing what they're likely to do all year; good starting pitching, great bullpen, solid defense and enough hitting. Teix, A-Rod and Chris Young may not hit well the rest of the way, but it is unlikely Beltran will continue to be this bad (or that he'd continue to get these reps) and the middle IF should eventually take shape, one way or another.
Keep tanaka. Pineda, tex and arod relatively healthy all year and the yanks will be kinda dangerous. The bp and defense looks good and there might be just enough hitting to hang around. They could win 87 and that could get you home this season.

CC is shot. I thought he'd be back after the knee surgery, but his speed is still low and his control is awful.
I'd say Beltran is done too. Maybe when it gets warm???
but if Nova can be 2013 Nova from June on that would be a big shot in the arm. they need a really good 6 inning guy. Girardi will find his way through the 7th and Betances/Miller are basically un-hitable at this point.
could pitch against the Mets every night. They can't touch him. 0-9 with 8 Ks, I believe. His last appearance vs. the Mets was one of the nastiest performances of his young career, and he was great tonight. I'm happy to see him look so good lately. Nice W and series W.
People over-worried about Betances in spring training.
He took a while to get his arm strength and mechanics. Not surprising that a 6'9" pitcher needs a little while to get his mechanics down pat.
Remember the worry in March that he was only throwing 92-4?
So much for that problem. He is once again one of the best relievers in baseball, whether he pitches the 8th inning or the 9th.
A few concerns to. Number 1. Beltran looks absolutely lost at the plate, he looks done, 2. Didi as well looks lost at the plate and in the field. 3. Eovaldi. I did not like this trade from day 1. And don't understand what the hype is about for a 15-35 pitcher who leads the majors in giving up hits. If the Yankees still had Prado.their offense would be a lot better. And you could of lived with Phelps in the rotation for a while. That trade bothers me more then the Greene trade.

Prado was a sell-high guy with two years of control left. Eovaldi isn't even arb-eligible. He may never get it, but if he does he'll be well worth it. People talked about Hughes (at least post injury) watching Eovaldi because Hughes couldn't put batters away. He didn't have that strikeout pitch to do it. Eovaldi absolutely does, he just can't throw it consistently yet.
They are still winning series though, and have some nice pieces in the minors that can help as the season goes along so long as they stay in it. Never get to high or to low with any team. I like that they have kept fighting, next 17 games will be big.
but I would stick with him. He says he's healthy--keep riding him and hope he gets his swing back. It can take longer for the older guys to get going after being hurt the year prior. But once he gets going Beltran can be extremely dangerous. I think you have to stick with him a bit longer. Gut feeling he comes around...

Eovaldi also made sense as a target for the Yanks because Rothschild has a reputation as a pitching coach who is able to increase pitchers' K rates going back to his days as the Cubs' pitching coach, and Eovaldi is a pitcher whose stuff suggests strikeout potential that just needs to be unlocked.
I really don't understand why people are insisting on making
snap judgments about Eovaldi and Didi. Beltran, I understand - he's 38 or 39 or whatever, stunk last year and looks like he was pulled out of a slow-pitch beer league this year.
There are worrisome aspects to both- Didi and his loopy long swing and Eovaldi not being able to locate consistently at all. However The Yanks coaching staff hasn't had much time to work with them at all. Really impressed by this last 10 days. I though this team was heading for oblivion early. To go 5-2 vs. the Mets/Tigers is a great week. Not to mention we were all killing the Rays and probably rightfully so, but meanwhile they are 11-5 vs. everyone else but the Yankees. It's way way early and there is a ton of baseball to be played but at least it seems that if things break right and guys stay healthy- huuuuge if with Tanaka/Pineda/Tex we might just be able to hang around in this flawed division.
that's the wild card in this season - the AL East is garbage
It's so strange to think of it that way after close to two decades of dominance, but it sucks. Not hearing too much drooling over the job Ben Cherington did anymore. The Yankees are mediocre and flawed, but it won't take greatness to win this division.
Regarding Didi, I have no idea if he will start to hit much, but I do feel confident that he will turn his defense around. I think Rothschild has done good work since coming aboard, so I'd like to give him some time with NE. The guy does have talent.
that throw heat that is straight as an arrow like Armando Benitez or Jose Rijo when he first broke in with the Yanks. His heat darts and moves, he just doesn't seem to have the command to hit his spots when he wants to consistently. he's still young though.
Not unless he gained about forty pounds
Wrong glasses too. Just caught a glimpse coming back from the bathroom. Doc says I'm 20/20. Sometimes I wonder.

Has he dropped weight? Looks leaner than last year. Great shape.
He didn't look like that in the spring. Hopefully he gets back to that form soon.
Baby steps.
Why not just wear a batting helmet without the ear flap?

Does that hat weigh? And does it weigh you down?

Betances appears to be all the way back.

Crapuano and Nova will eventually be back, and if it gets bad enough in the interim Whitley and Mitchell are pitching well.

They stay healthy and go out and get another starter. Because CC is shot

Just forget to activate Capuano, please.
