Both Nats and Braves lost. It's early, but the Nats can dig themselves into a hole they will be spending all summer digging out of. Can really put it to them next weekend with 4 games at Citi Field
Nats Manager Matt Williams has to be on the hot seat, having lost 5 in a row and swept by the Marlins. It doens't get easier as they travel to Atlanta.
absolutely hates ARod and doesn't even try to hide it. That Boston game last week, I was embarrassed for him, really. He sounds like ARod plowed his wife.

Just MHO.

I take it back. Noise's curveball is terrible tonight and it looks like he is going to try to cutter his way through the lineup. This is going to be a long night.
is always going to get someone to give him a chance, but his results plain old suck and aren't getting better. He'll tease you every once in a while but he's consistent at one thing, giving up runs and losing ballgames
I agree Mook. The ESPN guys have been tearing Eovaldi up since the first pitch. If you can't locate you won't consistently get people out I don't care if you throw 100

And this is supposed to be the best as a sunday night baseball game of the week. Truly pathetic. We need to triple GKR's salaries.
Huh? whats so bad about these guys? I think they're breaking down the pitching pretty well. They did a pretty good job breaking down Duda last year vs. this year.
Most of the dead weight has been banned. No reason we can't have a joint thread. Mets look really good. Yanks could be on a downward trajectory.
I think most of us Yankee fans realize the great success we've had in the last decade and beyond not to get too butthurt about the Mets coming up. It's great for the city and the fans.
good pitching staff can survive an entire season of this garbage infield play. Murph has never been good at anything but hitting and this slow start has to make you wonder if they've waited too long to move him.
The early returns on Flores are not good, just don't think he's cut out to play short. No range and his arm from deep in the hole just isn't strong enough.
He's been prone to the brain cramps. I just can't believe how many and how often this year.
Two groundball outs and we have runners at the corners with no outs. Ugh.
He has regressed this season to this point. While he was never stellar he at least was OK in the filed last season. He needs to get his head together quickly.
RE: cant wait for all the Flores haters to come out of
I don't think so - his errors are a lot less egregious than Murphy's. That was another situation where it looked like he (Flores) just got a little awkward with his footwork, likely because he needs reps. He's hitting and showing good range, just making young guy mistakes. Murphy's errors are the bigger issue.

Flores has probably on of the strongest arms in baseball period.

The can win with one of them in the field, but that one can't be Murphy. At least the Flores error didnt cost them a run. And Flores should have just tossed it to Murphy. He probably thought he was closer to the bag than he actually was.
Clearly a footwork issue and was off balance when he made the throw

I haven't read his scouting report but based on his play I'm not sure I can be convinced of that especially when he's backed into the hole.
Yeah, I definitely understand why they didn't want to dump his bat for nothing, but having him at 2nd compounds the pressure on Flores. The move I was most disappointed they didn't make was some form of Murphy+ for Zobrist. That would have added a leadoff hitter, a plus second baseman, and backup plan at SS all in 1 move. Though it might have cost Montero or Ynoa. I can't remember what Toby had as the comparable trade for the Mets system.

But that's my point if you watch his play then you would see he has
Murphy will either pull his head out of his ass or he won't. We have the best record in baseball and Herrera approaching .400 in AAA. Thank god we didn't trade away talent for a 2ndbaseman.
With Wheeler out, Syndergaard struggling, Montero looking weird, Mazzoni gone, we don't have nearly the starting depth we thought we had early in the season.

"That's it. Yankees win. Take the series, two of three. Now get that Empire State Building back to navy and white." Good week for yanks 3 outta 4 from Detroit and 2 outta 3 mets.
But it's still April. Lots of loads being shot around the league right now. Lots. Of loads.
Need to start getting consistent offense from a few spots and smooth out the defense, but on the whole they're doing what they're likely to do all year; good starting pitching, great bullpen, solid defense and enough hitting. Teix, A-Rod and Chris Young may not hit well the rest of the way, but it is unlikely Beltran will continue to be this bad (or that he'd continue to get these reps) and the middle IF should eventually take shape, one way or another.
Keep tanaka. Pineda, tex and arod relatively healthy all year and the yanks will be kinda dangerous. The bp and defense looks good and there might be just enough hitting to hang around. They could win 87 and that could get you home this season.

I'd say Beltran is done too. Maybe when it gets warm???
but if Nova can be 2013 Nova from June on that would be a big shot in the arm. they need a really good 6 inning guy. Girardi will find his way through the 7th and Betances/Miller are basically un-hitable at this point.
could pitch against the Mets every night. They can't touch him. 0-9 with 8 Ks, I believe. His last appearance vs. the Mets was one of the nastiest performances of his young career, and he was great tonight. I'm happy to see him look so good lately. Nice W and series W.
People over-worried about Betances in spring training.
He took a while to get his arm strength and mechanics. Not surprising that a 6'9" pitcher needs a little while to get his mechanics down pat.
Remember the worry in March that he was only throwing 92-4?
So much for that problem. He is once again one of the best relievers in baseball, whether he pitches the 8th inning or the 9th.
A few concerns to. Number 1. Beltran looks absolutely lost at the plate, he looks done, 2. Didi as well looks lost at the plate and in the field. 3. Eovaldi. I did not like this trade from day 1. And don't understand what the hype is about for a 15-35 pitcher who leads the majors in giving up hits. If the Yankees still had Prado.their offense would be a lot better. And you could of lived with Phelps in the rotation for a while. That trade bothers me more then the Greene trade.

Prado was a sell-high guy with two years of control left. Eovaldi isn't even arb-eligible. He may never get it, but if he does he'll be well worth it. People talked about Hughes (at least post injury) watching Eovaldi because Hughes couldn't put batters away. He didn't have that strikeout pitch to do it. Eovaldi absolutely does, he just can't throw it consistently yet.
They are still winning series though, and have some nice pieces in the minors that can help as the season goes along so long as they stay in it. Never get to high or to low with any team. I like that they have kept fighting, next 17 games will be big.
but I would stick with him. He says he's healthy--keep riding him and hope he gets his swing back. It can take longer for the older guys to get going after being hurt the year prior. But once he gets going Beltran can be extremely dangerous. I think you have to stick with him a bit longer. Gut feeling he comes around...

Eovaldi also made sense as a target for the Yanks because Rothschild has a reputation as a pitching coach who is able to increase pitchers' K rates going back to his days as the Cubs' pitching coach, and Eovaldi is a pitcher whose stuff suggests strikeout potential that just needs to be unlocked.
I really don't understand why people are insisting on making
snap judgments about Eovaldi and Didi. Beltran, I understand - he's 38 or 39 or whatever, stunk last year and looks like he was pulled out of a slow-pitch beer league this year.
There are worrisome aspects to both- Didi and his loopy long swing and Eovaldi not being able to locate consistently at all. However The Yanks coaching staff hasn't had much time to work with them at all. Really impressed by this last 10 days. I though this team was heading for oblivion early. To go 5-2 vs. the Mets/Tigers is a great week. Not to mention we were all killing the Rays and probably rightfully so, but meanwhile they are 11-5 vs. everyone else but the Yankees. It's way way early and there is a ton of baseball to be played but at least it seems that if things break right and guys stay healthy- huuuuge if with Tanaka/Pineda/Tex we might just be able to hang around in this flawed division.
that's the wild card in this season - the AL East is garbage
It's so strange to think of it that way after close to two decades of dominance, but it sucks. Not hearing too much drooling over the job Ben Cherington did anymore. The Yankees are mediocre and flawed, but it won't take greatness to win this division.
Regarding Didi, I have no idea if he will start to hit much, but I do feel confident that he will turn his defense around. I think Rothschild has done good work since coming aboard, so I'd like to give him some time with NE. The guy does have talent.
that throw heat that is straight as an arrow like Armando Benitez or Jose Rijo when he first broke in with the Yanks. His heat darts and moves, he just doesn't seem to have the command to hit his spots when he wants to consistently. he's still young though.

Well, they've spent a loooong time sucking and accumulating top draft picks. I'd hope they would be good, lol.
The Mariners are seriously underperforming (like the Nats)
And Kruk is already barking about arod guessing at the plate.
He's been ice cold. He'll come out of it.

Absolutely. It's ridiculous.
And they're not "goofy". They're assholes.
Young's single was the only hit this game (including a few outs) that wasn't ripped.
Agreed and it is amazing how large the gap is. I am reminded every time I have to listen to another broadcast team.

Put in Tejada at 2nd and Muno to 3B. Mayberry can go DH

No problem, it is after all a fluid and volatile situation both on the field and in here.

He didn't look like that in the spring. Hopefully he gets back to that form soon.
