NFT: Matress help need Temperpedic vs Beautyrest

superspynyg : 4/27/2015 7:08 am
So the wife and I were looking at new mattresses yesterday. We walked into Macy's and the salesperson had us try both a Beautyrest black series and a tempurpedic.

Has anyone ever slept on a tempurpedic? How do you like the mattress. Our current mattress is a pillow top mattress. Seems expensive. Is it worth the money?

What kind of firmness are you looking for?

I need to sleep on concrete as my back is shot. None of the foam mattresses gave the support I was looking for.

I hear the SleepNumber beds are sick. If you have that kind of scratch.
based on my research,

none of the big brand names are worth the money. Here is a pretty good reseource which should help you find a good, quality mattress.

in the last 2 weeks. We have a tempurpedic and would never go back to anything else. No cheap, but given a bed is something you use just about every night of your life, in my opinion, its worth the money.

Firmness does not equal hardness. Sleeping on the equivalent of concrete will kill your back. Yes, you need firmness to support your back. But you need plushness on top so that it will give around your shoulder and hip so your spine stays in alignment.
I have a very firm

tempurpedic. My wife loves it. As a side sleeper its not always the most comfortable. If you tend to sleep on your side alot, I might look into a less firm tempurpedic if you want to go that route.
Super, not so much about mattress but about bed

Not sure how much you can spend? Ifyou look into one of the more expensive beds that can be adjusted up and down and have a slight vibration setting. I am not talking about the sleep number bed but we got ours at what used to be Betty's Back shop.

It runs over $7000 when completed. It is a king size but really two twins on a king side base.

My wife and I love it. I was a big snorer but since switching to this I hardly ever snore. I tilt my neck and head up and it prevents the snoring.

Also great for reading and the gentle vibrator helps in falling off.

Good luck
I always thought I needed a hard firm mattress, but I was wrong

We bought the sleep by number bed and I'm on 35, which is low. And it's been great for my back and other joints. There are no pressure points.

We did spend about $6K, but that's because we also bought the adjustable base. The mattresses themselves are not that expensive, regular mattresses that only last 8-10 years are just as expensive if not more. I would go and try one out at least. They also do financing.
There's no f'ing reason ...

for matresses to cost as much as the do. Insanity that we're ok with paying that. The profit margin on these things must be incredible.

I was exaggerating that, Jim. :)

I do sleep on an ultra firm as anything less makes my back hurt. I have an issue with my C-5 that causes my levator muscle to be in 24/7, full lock spasm. Shit sucks.
I started a thread last week about it... and this week i purchased it
