NFT: GOT... (BOOK READERS THREAD)

ShocknAwe80 : 4/27/2015 9:04 am
I thought last night was great... I really like the way things are shaping up, EXCEPT for the drawn out yawnfest that is Brienne yapping to Pod.

I may have my timelines messed up, but doesn't Tyrion Meet the Griffs (Old and Young) prior to getting taken by Jorah?? If so, then I guess Young Griff wasn't a Targarian after all! I never really liked that plotline in the book anyway, but I was hoping to learn how to play some Crivass from watching the show.
Yeah.

I've seen other commentary that the whole "Griff" thing is sliding by the wayside in the show.
I also just read an interview with D&D

that Sansa will be taking the Jeyne Poole role... That will make for some riveting TV right there... Offer Theon even greater redemption and WOW... Wonder if Ramsay will make him "Get Sansa Ready" for him like Theon had to do to Jeyne in the books.
it will definitely be different for the Snowman.

it was easy for him to make decisions to send for Arya since they were so close. Sansa and him weren't very close.
awesome to see "robert strong"

last night.
It seems Griff/Aegon's exploits in the Stormlands...

May be replaced with Littlefinger's newly found Eyrie forces and Bolton's forces in the North. They hinted heavily at an uneasy alliance last night and their desire to consolidate more power/ensure their claims are upheld.

Its strongly hinted that Aegon is a "false dragon", most likely either a Blackfyre or someone who looks the part that was programmed by people with vested interest in what's going on in Westeros. It really seems his only purpose is to fulfill some of the House of the Undying prophecy and cause trouble again in the kingdom, one of which isn't relevant in the TV show and the other can be accomplished by other means (see above).
The plot with Jon Snow is interesting

On the one hand it looks like they may change the reason for him being stabbed and he doesn't leave the Wall. On the other it appears they're setting it up so that he's in conflict whether or not to leave the Wall and march on Ramsay and Roose and hold true to the books. Personally, I think it's going to be a similar result. It's not the Jon/Arya relationship but it's still someone he grew up with and thinks is his sister. Plus an important note is the show made it clear Jon knows who Roose is, where Roose is, and what Roose did to Robb. This isn't as clear in the books. So, in the show Jon knows what kind of person Roose is and I don't imagine he'll be okay with learning Sansa is alone with him and Ramsay.

So I think some form of Pink Letter is coming in the show version.

Like I said.. I am happy about this. I was bored to tears with that whole storyline.
The one thing I did notice...
UAGiant : 4/27/2015 1:04 pm : link
Is that even if they are axing the Griff storyline, Greyscale is getting a quite a few mentions this season. Considering Tyrion took a dive into the Sorrows in the book, it will be interesting to see if he's exposed to it this season as a future item to pay attention to with his storyline.

I can't see them having Tyrion go out like that, but it strikes me that something has to happen with Greyscale in the larger series for it to make it to the show (and go beyond establishing Stannis has a scarred daughter and a messed up wife).

And I agree - the Aegon story reads and comes off as a late addition that should have been left on the editor's floor. Some ideas are fleshed out, but its way too much to introduce in the 5th book.

Regarding Greyscale, maybe Jorah instead of Griff.
Well, there were

rumors that the new season would differ from the book.....but having Sansa marry Ramsay? She just can't get a break.....

Ultimately it won't be that much different though
moespree : 4/28/2015 12:04 pm : link
I don't think. I think you just substitute Jeyne Poole (fake Arya) for Sansa. Jon's plot plays out the same way, Theon helps Sansa escape, Stannis on his way to Winterfell runs into them...etc. Ultimately the same.

What I think will happen in season 6 is they will fast forward Sansa. They're using this season to skip most of her beginning Winds of Winter chapters and instead placed her into this story. But wherever she winds up by the end of book 6 will be where she is next season. That's to me anyway, what it appears they're doing.
Moespree: Agreed re. Fake Arya / Jeyne Poole.

Seems like a smart compression. Jeyne is a throwaway character; Sansa, a linchpin, was treading water in the Vale. Combining them costs nothing, as far as I can see, and maintains focus on the characters who matter. The change also keeps the divisions in the North front and center. ("The North Remembers" the Red Wedding, but viewers have short memories.) Putting Sansa in Jeyne's place puts the rivalry between northern houses front and center, even if Ramsey's brutality gets toned down a bit.

No matter what happens with Wildlings, Crows, Stannis, Jon, White Walkers, Others, etc., it won't end well for the Boltons.
