Early on I liked him, but between his inconsistent senior year, his man-boobs, and his suspect combine I got really turned off. And now my thinking is if the Giants sign off on him after all that, they must really believe in his coachability. He does have his good traits.
of theirs pre draft in recent memory, at least in some capacity. The only exception was really Prince and that was because he was expected to go [much] earlier than he did.
The idea that no one knows what they'll do or are looking to do really doesn't float.
peat might be a remote throwing pick for me...i think he is a pussy to say the least. anyone make me feel better about potentially picking him
I gotta believe that if the Giants think he is a pussy, they will not draft him. Especially when you hear Pugh and Snee talk about what is so attractive about Scherff--the mean, violent, physical aspect that he brings to the table.
Andrus has the overall athletic talent, size, lateral agility and techniques to be one of the top left tackles who can actually play Left Tackle at the next level for the team that selects him in this draft. His pass blocking techniques are excellent and his ability to mirror his opponent in this draft is one of the best. Andrus seems to take pride in his play and seems to have the mental toughness needed to be a Left Tackle for the next level. What I see when evaluating Andrus on film is the consistency he has in the use of technique with his hands and feet. That is very impressive and very unusual for any offensive tackle at any level.
It leaves Ali Marpet in play, because Peat is strictly a tackle and Marpet is strictly a guard (or center). I would feel really good about the future of the OL if the Giants came away from the draft with those two guys.
Peat has been a big riser through this process, especially late. Lance Zierlein ended up putting Peat as his top tackle in the draft, one that he said he was surprised by, but he seemed confident in that evaluation. Jason La Canfora reported that there was a tremendous amount of buzz for Peat going in the top nine picks. Eric Galko of Optimum Scouting stated that at the combine, based on what he was hearing from scouts and team executives, he gave Peat the "best odds" for being the tackle taken in the top 10. Dane Brugler has him now as his best tackle. Bucky Brooks has had him rated as his best tackle. Ourlads has had him as their top tackle and through their sources have noted that he's killed his interviews, that he's a film nut and "knows his opponents better than they know themselves." Even guys who don't have him as their top tackle, don't have him far off. Both Daniel Jeremiah and Charles Davis have D.J. Humphries as the only tackle ranked higher, but Humphries likely can't play on the right side.
Russ Lande has had Peat as one of his top tackles as has Greg Gabriel, who states "don't be surprised if come draft day, Peat is the first offensive lineman drafted. Not too many have his combination of size, strength, athleticism, and production. He looks like a future Pro Bowl type tackle and will play right away." Draft Insider Tony Pauline has him as a top 10 player in this draft and "won't get past the St. Louis Rams at 10 and could even go earlier."
Nolan Nawrocki called Peat in his draft guide "one of the best offensive tackle prospects in the last decade." Truly, truly high praise. One of the issues regarding Peat is this reputation of being "soft" which has been debunked in his interviews, as his father forbade him from playing football, but he ignored him and played anyway, displaying a passion for the game. College Football Focus rated Peat as the only highly-rated offensive tackle that ended up in their top 10 in both pass protection and run blocking. Matt Miller recently just stated that he talked to a lot of former offensive linemen and scouts and stated he needed to move Andrus Peat up because the most important part of an OT's game is "recovery, and Peat is the best at it." The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel does a GREAT feature where they poll anonymous scouts and get their take on a lot of these prospects. Four of the scouts they polled stated that he'd be the first offensive tackle taken. The quote they used were "He's got everything. The size, the bend, the feet, the tenacity .... he's the top tackle."
The final guy (and in my opinion, the most important guy) who thinks Peat would be a great pick is of course, your boy, Invictus XI, who believes that Peat has the footwork, first step, and power to have Pro Bowl upside at tackle.
Peat has NFL bloodlines as his father, Todd Peat, was a guard for years with the Cardinals and Raiders and right or wrong, that's something the Giants have been connected with. They take players with NFL bloodlines. On top of that, the Giants LOVE taking highly-rated high school prospects. Peat? Oh yeah, he got more than 20 Division 1 scholarship offers at some of the best football schools. Did I mention how young he is? He's 21 years old, a full two years younger than Brandon Scherff.
Finally I don't know how many of the other guys he has faced or how he did against Peat, but I take that as a compliment towards Peat's ability if the best DL in the draft said without hesitation on NFL radio last week that Peat was the best he faced by far.
The good thing about Peat is statisically he did grade out Â
in the top ten both in the run & the pass. No other 1st round prospect can say that. I think if they truly like him they'd like to get him lower but there's reports about Rams taken him @ 10 so if you want him you gotta take him.
is all right with me, as long as they get a very good, i.e. red chip player, and do a re peat (lol) of last years draft quality. btw, what's an "imgrate"?

Yes he did grade out very well both run and pass.
If they have Peat closely graded with others I don't mind a slight trade down to pick up more picks but if Peat is the top OL by a considerable margin and we want OL round 1, don't mess around and just pick him.
at Tackle, at least from his tape on DraftBreakdown. I have seen nobody even sniff the QB from his side and his run blocking is not bad. He's just not the mauler that Giants fans would really want. He is an good looking tackle. I would not have a problem with the pick. Pugh moving inside sounds to be the preference and hopefully he comes through as a Guard, as we do not have any idea how will play inside?!

He isn't a mauler in the run game but he is an 'eraser' in the pass game. And while not a mauler he still moves people in the run game.
That I have with him is that he did not do the bench press at the combine or his pro day. What other reason could he have, other then he is not that strong or hiding a injury.
Of course the Giants picks have been correctly predicted... Â
they are always linked to like 10 different guys in any given draft. Heck there are guys on this board who have already posted that they like players X, Y, and Z while hearing that the Giants might be interested in players A, B, or C giving them up to six ways to claim they were right and that "most people knew" what the Giants were going to do.
Maybe there's something wrong with me, but until the very, very end I didn't know about Beckham, Pugh, Wilson, Prince, JPP, Ross, or Kiwi. Nicks was named over and over again here and so was Phillips, as they were clear positions of need and players that fit the profile at our pick spot.
Someday, there will be guys on here who will say "Everybody knew the Giants wanted ______________" in the 2015 draft. If you try to argue with them they will be able to find tons of evidence that people had the Giants linked to the pick. That's because at least two WR, three DL, a RB, and three OL have been named as potential targets.
I posted that Peat "failed" the combine. Sy'56 "corrected" that. He indicated there is a reason for his funky combine, which he was not at liberty to disclose. Sy likes Peat and has some inside info regarding his offseason workout issues. Of course, the Giants must have this info too, and possibly more.
So, if our Giants draft Peat, I'm good with it myself, although I would hate to see them leave either Cooper or White on the board (and I don't think they would do that, given their stated preference for playmakers).
have no problem with Peat. He has the best feet, and although I'd still probably give Scherff the edge as the best OL, it's very close between him and Peat. The Giants want a mauler in the run game, but they may feel they can get that by moving Pugh inside to guard, while Peat plays LT. An OL of Beatty, Pugh, Richburg, Schwartz, and Peat is pretty good.
to 12, will Peat still be there? Rams and Vikings don't need a LT.
More importantly, can Peat play right tackle for a few years?
The Rams could take Peat. Robinson is likely to start at LT but they have nobody at RT since Barksdale is a free agent. Foles is an immobile QB also so they really need to fortify the OL.
The bench question is a concern if not hurt then why not at his pro day but Im sure if they is a problem its been discussed by the scouts. Now if that's the main problem bench strength then that's a weakness for most CFL players and easily fixed. Not every great player lives in the gym, LT was one who hated the weight room but he did fine.
Although I would prefer a top tackle or guard or the best LB, I go by the chicken bones omen. With SW announcing the pick, the Giants may pull one out of their butts and go with the safety. I cringe at the thought but stranger things have happened.

BRANDON SCHERFF, Iowa (6-4½, 319, 5.04, 1): Compared by one scout to perennial Pro Bowl guard Steve Hutchinson. "He's better than anyone that's come out of there (Iowa), and they've had a bunch of good guys," one scout said. "I know everyone wants to make a guard out of him, but I'd have him disprove he can't play tackle. He didn't even play healthy this year. Had his knee scoped (torn cartilage) and the guy missed one practice. You watch the year before. I like (Bryan) Bulaga but I think this guy is better.
I posted awhile back, it's Peat for OT or Scherff for OG Â
if you want an OL at 9. Frankly that seems clear (to me) after looking at them, and Collins, and Flowers, on tape.
If they want one of those 2 guys they will not "trade back", that's fucking stupid. They trade back if they are targeting one of 3-4 OL they considet +/- equivalent, only!
Trading back, you add Collins (maybe), Humphries, Flowers, etc to the happy wish list.
RE: Peat doesn't have very long arms so his height Â
that if there are 100 draft prognosticators writing articles out there, probably 70 of them are posting different rumors. This team likes player A, then some other dude says this same team likes player B.
I eat it up too...but we all have the same source on this shit...our ass.
before 9 I gotta have 7 guys I really like... 2 OL (Scherff and Peat), 2 DL (Fowler and Williams), 3 WR (Cooper, White, Parker - sounds like a wasp law firm.)
And that's not even mentioning Gordon...
And if they nab someone else? Heck I didn't like OBJ much last year... Until he started, you know, actually playing.
first, second- all the same for the chicken bones. As long as he is in the building, the omen is not good. Mea Culpa. The real point is that it won't be one of the conventional choices. Thursday night will be fun.
More importantly, can Peat play right tackle for a few years?
Well...you should know, since you're a big part of that misdirection, you subversive imgrate!
Don't talk to me! Don't talk to me, criminal!
Are you high? Please put the crack pipe down!
As far as if he will be a bust I have no idea, but if you look around most say the fear is Peat is the ultimate risk reward pick.
The idea that no one knows what they'll do or are looking to do really doesn't float.
Don't forget White, Cooper and Parker!
We can't have that on the Giants.

Scherff I have higher.
Peat can be developed into a LT. His stock has dropped a lot in a year before he was talked as a top 5.
You think he's a pussy? I'm not going to try and explain anything to you.

(no safeties at 9, please)
he isn't announcing until pick in 2nd round
From what I watched of him he got pushed back alot. When I think of NFL DE's collapsing the pocket, strength is an issue.
This also confirms what our O-lineman have said regarding Scherff.
If they want one of those 2 guys they will not "trade back", that's fucking stupid. They trade back if they are targeting one of 3-4 OL they considet +/- equivalent, only!

That's the second time you've spouted this nonsense. Have an agenda, or are you just a jerk?
What's with the stubby arms on these giant men? I'm only 5' 11" and have 34 1/2" arms.
This.
Do us all a favor and say that to his face.
Yes and I've stated that several times..
Quote:
with the pick no matter who it is, as long as it's not some toolsy 3/4 OLB/DE combo?
Yes and I've stated that several times..
I know you to be pretty moderate, 56, so I really didn't mean to exclude you from the party of common sense.
Yup- I'm not picky...Peat/Scherff/Flowers/Gurley/White/Dupree
I'd be thrilled with any of them.
They might like the pass rushers. At least I hope so. Also one of the WRs since Marshall is an older player.
I eat it up too...but we all have the same source on this shit...our ass.
