People bitch Reese neglects the OL and does not get players with nasty streak. He has now used a 1, 1, & 2 the last 3 drafts and got a player with a nasty streak. Results - people still bitch
Proves the point that people bitch just to bitch
Unless Cooper fell, an OL was picked, and rather have a guy outside than inside
Perhaps you can understand the distinction between a) wanting Reese to steadily invest value picks in maintaining the OL time over instead of letting it fall of the cliff as it did a few years ago and b) not wanting Reese to out of desperation over the situation he created, all of a sudden use a lot of premium picks on OL when there are tons of other holes on the team.
an OL with a mean streak who was a good run blocker which is just what they got. Flowers has a big upside I am not sure why so many hate the pick. I like Peat more but I am happy with Flowers.
remains the best evidence Thing about Pugh moving inside. If you don't think he can run block at tackle, why can he at guard? I think Flowers will play ROT for the Giants. Pugh will go to LG, Left Hemisphere deal, for a year, then he replaces Beatty at LOT, which is his position. Schwartz is a Right Hemisphere guy. He goes to RG.
My only question about Peat was attitude. And frankly I want attitude even more than technical ability, just difficult to see that as clearly as technique on tape.
IMO, the Giants picked badass attitude over technique tonight, and who knows if that's right or wrong.

The 9th pick is a premium pick. Unless he's playing LT, he's not playing at a very high leverage position so he's going to have to be all pro level to be good value so high. That's a risk.
Watching film this guy can move for a guy. reminds me of Young's
You're kidding, right? 1) Drafting RBs in the 1st round is much too risky (see David Wilson), 2) SirYesSir is right: they last on avg. only 3-5 yrs. and 3) there was no need; we already have a nice stable of backs with Williams, Jennings and Vereen. Once we signed Vereen, that took care of any remote possibility of drafting an RB in the 1st round. Plus the need for an OL was just too great. I'm very happy with this pick.

With the benefit of hindsight and knowing the end of the story, would you draft Dave Diehl, a 5th round pick, with the #9 pick overall? I would.

Yeah, there's some projecting involved in the pick. If a guy has Left Tackle potential to your scouts, how do you say no?
Tyron Smith was also a very young unfinished high-potential player who started paying dividends after a couple of years.
due to his age and potential, we won't know how well or poorly the Giants did until 2 or 3 years from now. But if we can play and contribute from day 1, things will be looking pretty good in my opinion. He'll only get better with time and experience in the NFL.
I wasn't crazy about Peat so I'm not upset about that. I'd rather get the nasty guy with the higher ceiling anyway if I had to choose. Not a sexy pick but it's nice that they have another guy on the OL now. I just hope he can contribute right away at least decently like Richburg did last year despite being only 21.

Nasty man who can maul but needs work in pass protection. I just think he ends up "learning" his rookie year. I don't think he starts at RT at least. Maybe OG if he works hard.
the trickle down effect could be huge. Shifting Pugh to LG and the return of Schwartz. Weston in his 2nd year. They could really have a power run game reminiscent of 2008.

Agreed 100%. We haven't had any nastiness since Snee. I'm looking forward to seeing this kid blow up the guy in front of him every Sunday.
The beat writers have been saying for weeks they were high on him
. Yes but did you ever see any mocks with him going in the too 10 to anyone besides us? No. Because he's not a top 10 talent. He's just the top linemen on their board.
I saw several Flowers-to-the-Giants predictions, not sure where, don't have a link. It was a popular prediction among people who thought 1) the Giants HAD to go O-line and 2) Scherff would be gone.
for one year. Then he will replace Beatty at LT when his contract expires. We will be drafting another RT in a year or 2. Flowers is young, huge, and nasty. What the hell is not to like ?

. Yes, he made a lot of sense for the Giants. it was not a well kept secret they liked him. But was a need based pick, imo. The selections ahead of us did not help.

WalterFootball had Flowers to Giants two months ago. I don't get the shock or awe.

No shock at all. Who said there was shock??? I have been saying Flowers was my prediction, as has many others. That doesn't make him a top 10 overall talent.
RE: Reese said he was the highest rated player on their board
or do I listen to fans who say he is a reach. I'm going with Reese
He says that every single year. So either the Giants have been incredibly lucky over the years with the convergence of BPA and need or he's shitting us.

Yes because you know Reese and their staff of scouts job is to appease the fan base about the draft...

Literally a Giant!
And what may I ask is your IQ, you fucking shitbag? I can't imagine it reaches three digits...

I'd like you to clarify your observation that the kid is a moron based off an interview. Point out specifics.

Coughlin said Flowers is a tackle and could play either side. #GiantsDraft

I still thinking the Giants are somehow going to get Marpet. Another guy they really like.

a team that finished 6-10 has a LOT of needs.. so almost ANY pick technically could be NEED based..
