Asshat Report Card

Eric from BBI : Admin : 9:07 pm
Asshat #1: Told me the pick was Scherff and if he wasn't there, the fallback would be a defensive end. He wasn't sure who the DE would be.

Asshat #2: Told me Scherff was smoke. If Cooper and White gone, then defensive players have higher grades than the OL. Wouldn't be surprised to see a QB slip and the phone ring. Much interest in Waynes.

Asshat #3: Scherff was the pick, and if not him Flowers.
Who does #3 think they may look at in the 2nd?

Flowers name linked to the Giants a lot in the last 3 or 4 days.

In fact, his name was linked quite a bit about 3 weeks ago, then that died out quickly. Looks like at that point the war room but a notice out to lock it down.

I think they always liked him, and it sounds like there was debate in the room between him and Scherff.
I dont think 1 or 2 were remotely close
hitdog42 : 9:13 pm : link
outside of the interest in wayans and desire for Scherff
Flowers
Eric from BBI : Admin : 9:14 pm : link

He did, but he also threw out about 5 other names including Melvin Gordon. He was bound to get it right...haha
I thought the amount of chatter regarding Scherff was disturbing
jcn56 : 9:16 pm : link
like, almost to the point where maybe the coaching staff and scouts had a disconnect and they were trying to publicly lobby for Scherff. But a deliberate smoke screen would sure make a lot of sense.
JonC called
This sayin he heard Scherff then Flowers
so it played out kind of like this?
hitdog42 : 9:19 pm : link
it will play out like this i think
hitdog42 : 1:53 pm : link : reply
If Cooper is there they run to the podium (not happening though).

If scherff is there they will then run to the podium... i.e. he is the pick

they love Williams at USC but he will be gone. (I still think they take Scheff over him)

If those are gone then Flowers is the pick.

If flowers is gone its either going to be Shelton or Wayans.

none of the 3-4 OLB will be in play- Peat is behind Flowers, Gordon they rate highly but not high enough. and White they like but similar to Gordon, not enough.
They met with Flowers at Miami

The Giants are a new team to be mentioned with you and certainly they could use you. What has been your interaction with them thus far?"

"They came for the pro day; I had dinner with them, and I have a visit set up with them."

This was from April 13th.. there was definitely interest from the Giants

Did he say Flowers if Schreff and the WRs were gone? I wondered if one of those 3 were there, what our pick would have been.

Flowers needs to be coached up. He is only 21. He may not start as a rookie if his feet aren't there. I don't think he has ever played OG.

He said Cooper, Scherff then Flowers. Right after Scherff went he confirmed Flowers again.
Flowers has feet

I know right? Kid has unbelievable feet. Big athlete. The mean streak in the run game is gonna be awesome too.
I think Flowers' floor is solid NFL RT
Ten Ton Hammer : 10:10 pm : link
Might be better than that if he's as self-motivated as advertised.

With Tyron Smith in the league, perhaps not but ability wise? Yes, I absolutely think he does.
that reassures me a lot
chris r : 10:35 pm : link
from what I have seen and read he seems like an RT type. Athletic yes, but a little clumsy and without great balance. Maybe it is more technique than ability that makes him look that.
chris
Joey in VA : 10:54 pm : link
His technique does break down in spots but he's got the tools. Watch his draft breakdown clips against Nebraska and Randy Gregory, he doesn't win 100% of the time but when he does, Gregory is erased. Those high points show what he's capable of when he's playing clean.
from the link on the other thread -
Del Shofner : 10:57 pm : link
"Run blocking comes naturally to him. He is one of the best in the nation at getting to his blocks out in space and locking on to his targets. When he gets there, it's like a literal hurricane hits the defender. He's got a vicious punch that he puts his weight behind. He's going to flatten someone when he gets the chance and he's brutal.

He's also got tremendous upside. People his size, strength, and quickness don't come along too often. If he can fix his technique and get better conditioned, we're looking at a Pro-Bowl caliber lineman that can play four positions on the line. A destructive presence."
