on Reese & Coughlin
The popular narrative around the Giants this offseason has been that this is a "win or else" year coming up, and that the jobs of general manager Jerry Reese and coach Tom Coughlin, among others, are on the line if they don't make the playoffs.
That may or may not be true, but the more relevant fact of the matter is that Reese and Coughlin don't care. Or at least they don't care as much about that as they do about helping make the Giants better. Reese and Coughlin aren't the sort of men who manage out of fear for their jobs. They have a combined 35 years of service to the Giants' organization, and they're invested in its long-range success. That's the way confident and competent professionals look at things. They act out of a sense of responsibility, not self-preservation.
So on Thursday night, they took the player they liked the best -- a player my sources tell me they would have taken even if Brandon Scherff, Kevin White, Dante Fowler and Beasley had still been on the board. This isn't just spin. The Giants really, really like Ereck Flowers.

That they had the pick in almost immediately shows they knew who they wanted.
So Graziano thinks they like Flowers better than Scherff. They think Flowers has the upside to be a starting left tackle. Personally, I don't think Scherff will be a very good lt. But that's just me.
The issue with Flowers is technique and, to some extent, maturity. Hope Flaherty can help with the former and age and the Giants culture (including someone taking him under his wing - Beatty? Schwartz?) will take care of the latter.
This isn't to say they aren't really high on Flowers but it isn't to the extent that Graziano is claiming (probably was fed the customary sugar coated ,inflate the guy you pick speech from the FO)

Jay, agree with technique issues. All reports say he has no issues - gym rat, hangs with his Dad, not a partier, focused on football. I don't think he has maturity issues besides being 21.
HH, not saying he wasn't happy. Just saying that he wasn't the #1 OL on the board. We also had Watkins and likely evans rated higher than OBJ last year but that turned out pretty well...
Fowler went 3rd. He was not on the board when the Giants picked.
JR said Flowers was the highest ranked player at the time of he pick...

Other beat writers had Flowers pegged early on.
It makes alot of sense when you think about.
This would seem to serve no purpose, except to insult Flowers, and would not be TC's style.
I do not think it is hard to beleive that they were happy to come away with Flowers. Is it such a stretch to think he was their guy all along? As a fan you have to be happy the Giants drafted a o line prospect with a high ceiling. When This team needs linemen.

Scherff was #1 with Flowers a close 2nd.

they picked with 5 minutes left on the clock.they were on the clock for 4.5 minutes before the redskins pick was announced. they used half their alloted time. It wasn't 30 seconds, it was 30 seconds after the redskins pick was announced.
You realize the pick is in a good 3 or 4 minutes before they announce it correct?
If you were watching it you could see the pick is in come up on the ticker no longer than a minute after being on the clock
There were plenty of rumors/leaks that they really liked Flowers. Last time there were this many that turned out to be true were with Ron Dayne. Obviously, let's hope this turns out better.
Lol. My thoughts too.

The only reason you THINK they took 30 seconds, is because there pick was in about 30 seconds after the redskins pick was ANNOUNCED, not in. the draft clock starts when then previous team makes its pick, not when they announce it.ESPNs clock for the Giants only showed up when they were already 4 minutes into their pick, as shown by their clock. it was up about a minute when they actually picked and the clock stopped, at around the 5 minute mark.
Giants made their pick 30 seconds after the redskins pick was announced .They had already been on the clock 5 minutes.
Giants took 5 minutes to make their pick.Look it up.Or ask someone who actually knows.
