Predict when La'el Collins will go

Capt. Don : 5/1/2015 8:21 am
and what round would you be comfortable the Giants taking him?

I say he goes in the late 3rd. I would be comfortable taking him in the 5th.
someone will take him in the 4th
JohnB : 5/1/2015 8:24 am : link
That'd be my guess.
6th or 7th round

4th round

And I hope its us
Giants will pass
JonC : 5/1/2015 8:29 am : link
No need to introduce any potential chaos. More likely they swipe Marpet.

Figure he and Gregory and DBG gets looks starting in the 3rd, that's normally when teams will get comfortable with the risk.
Not
SomeFan : 5/1/2015 8:30 am : link
drafted is my prediction, especially if the outcome of the investigation is truly unknown by the NFL. This isn't a PED or weed incident.
5th or 6th
Greg from LI : 5/1/2015 8:31 am : link
At that point, odds are you're not gettingig a player who is going to stick in the NFL for long anyway.
They got their guy..
Big Blue '56 : 5/1/2015 8:31 am : link
Time to turn attention to DL, S, WR..They can get young depth in later rounds or UDFA imo
And if I were Giants
SomeFan : 5/1/2015 8:31 am : link
he would be on my "do not draft" list unless it is clear, he is not a suspect in any way.
and what BB'56 said

The logic behind taking him off the board completely is sound but the dreamer in me thinks about matching him up with Flowers for the next 5 years.

Like I said, if they took him in the 5th I would feel great about it. That said, I think late 3, early 4 is when someone takes a shot.
The last I read and fwiw,
Big Blue '56 : 5/1/2015 8:32 am : link
the cops are saying Collins is not a suspect..At least yet..Am I behind on this?
BB56...
Capt. Don : 5/1/2015 8:34 am : link
no, that is my current understanding of the situation.

For the kids sake, I wish the NFL had allowed him to enter the supplemental draft.
Go where? Prison or in the draft?
Victor in CT : 5/1/2015 8:36 am : link
Ugly situation. I hope he is innocent. That poor woman, just awful.
3rd round
ZogZerg : 5/1/2015 8:36 am : link
NFL GMs just cant help themselves in these situations.

I agree. would it have been so terrible to let events play themselves out? There is such a thing as due process.
He goes any sooner than the 5th
jcn56 : 5/1/2015 8:45 am : link
and you can bet even money someone has inside info that he's going to be exonerated.

For me, it is THE story line today. I would really like to know how much effort the Giants are putting into investigating this.

Or have they said, "we got our guy, no need."

Upside is, IF he is exonerated and you spend a 4th on him, its like another 1st rounder. I believe Sy had him ranked even or better than Scherff.
5th round
Bones : 5/1/2015 8:51 am : link
By the Bengals.
We can hope that this is only the police
SomeFan : 5/1/2015 8:53 am : link
interviewing all prior boyfriends/acquiantances of the woman and Collins is just caught up in that. But, until it is rock solid he is not involved no one will draft him.
Given what we know about NYG
JonC : 5/1/2015 8:53 am : link
they draft kids they "know" and have monitored for a period of time, which would be Marpet (or Clemmings) for examples, if they're wanting one more OL from this draft.

Haven't figured out why a 20 yo kid was hanging around with old woman
Ivan15 : 5/1/2015 9:37 am : link
especially a 20 yo athlete at the U.
If he's
Giantophile : 5/1/2015 9:46 am : link
truly not a suspect he won't make it past the 3rd round.
Can't believe the league didn't give him an exception
whozzat : 5/1/2015 9:50 am : link
regardless of what the rules say... major fail on their part. The last thing the NFL needs right now, from a PR standpoint, is to have their draft broadcast puctuated by announcers and media going: (Jim Nantz voice) "Which one of these teams might be willing to draft a murder suspect? Will this be the round we find out? Stay tuned... "
Part of it depends on whether there's any news today
njm : 5/1/2015 9:53 am : link
Baltimore, Seattle and San Francisco each have 3 4th rd. picks. No way he makes it past those teams.

At what point does La'el hope he goes undrafted?
Capt. Don : 5/1/2015 10:06 am : link
If I am him and it is the end of the 5th, I start hoping that I go undrafted. Then he is just a free agent and he can wait until he is exonerated and negotiate a free agent contract.

Going undrafted won't help him get more money. There's only a 75K bonus pool added for each team for undrafted rookie FAs, after that the money comes from the draft pick pool

Was not aware...thanks!
too hot to handle
blapre74 : 5/1/2015 10:45 am : link
not drafted
If he goes undrafted I'd tell him go to Canada
njm : 5/1/2015 11:10 am : link
Play for a year and then open the bidding. Keeps him out of a 3 year league minimum rookie contract.

Of course that assumes he's exonerated.
Just before our pick in the 6th
old man : 5/1/2015 11:22 am : link
NFL says he's been cleared of accusations and JR is all over it.
LC comes in with an attitude, and we have the makings of a great young nasty OL.
I can dream, right?

Absolutely! Its a weird situation with a completely unpredictable outcome.
No one is taking him

until it is certain he is not involved

Problem with this is Reese has been absolutely atrocious at finding anything worth a shit after the 2nd round as far as OL goes.

The last OL we drafted after the 2nd round that didn't suck was Diehl 12 years ago.
I'd take him in the 4th
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 5/1/2015 1:54 pm : link
but I agree that it's unlikely he gets drafted until this is resolved. I feel so bad for him if he's innocent. Losing millions of dollars through no fault of your own.

I'd love him in the 4th.
In all seriousness

I could see him being the Giants 2nd round pick.

Think about this- the Giants have spent several years having their "background check" guys running around Baton Rouge for some very high picks out of LSU in recent years- these guys probably have REALLY good sources for information inside and outside the PD there.

If those guys have been digging around down there and report back that this is not going to be a long term issue, the Giants should not hesitate to grab him. It was too risky with the #9 overall pick- you have to hit the HR there- but with the #40 pick, you can take a chance on a guy with a 1st round grade but has question marks- as long as your investigations can answer the big question marks.

On the other hand, if the Giants guys down there find bad news, I am sure the other clubs find it too and Collins goes undrafted.
