NFT: Anyone not watch the draft?

mattlawson : 5/1/2015 8:25 am
My wife had done a bunch of work for a client and the launch party was last night - we had a date scheduled for a while and I never realized it was first round night.

Honestly, I don't know that I missed anything. I swore loudly when I saw the Skins take who I thought we would as I logged in to BBI when the Giants picked. But we had a great night out on the town.

Checking Twitter back at home it seemed like it dragged on and on more than usual. Part of me feels like enduring all that hype for months I should get some payoff or closure by seeing the event, another part of me says fuck it - I had a much better time.
nope, not a second of it
Greg from LI : 5/1/2015 8:27 am : link
Watched the Rangers game.
Watched Giants 1st & 10
Headhunter : 5/1/2015 8:31 am : link
talked Giants with Papa, Banks & Diehl. Papa would update who was picked. Talked about every unit on the team, Spags, who the Giants might pick, 2 minutes after the pick, Coughlin was on screen, followed by Reese then Ross then called Flowers. I did not see a nano second of ESPN or NFL Network and enjoyed it
I consider myself a hard core fan
pjcas18 : 5/1/2015 8:32 am : link
But I find actually sitting in front of the tv watching the draft to be tedious. Especially with playoff hockey on.
Watched the fucking Rangers
Gman11 : 5/1/2015 8:35 am : link
lose a game with one second left on the clock.
The ESPN broadcast...
Chris in Philly : 5/1/2015 8:37 am : link
has become an abomination. Unwatchable. NFL Network is a step up, but Deion sanders is just so awful.
Watched the Rangers game
Stufftherun : 5/1/2015 8:39 am : link
but caught some on my iPad and during commercial breaks. Found the lead up to be a ridiculous, Hollywood awards show like production.
there's no reason why the first ten picks should take any longer
NoPeanutz : 5/1/2015 8:39 am : link
than 30 seconds. The top 5 are all automatic, and that makes the next 5 picks 30 second decisions.

Yea I know trades blah blah blah blah.
But I have little doubt that the thing is artificially dragged out for Television. When I see "the pick is in" you know you have time for a bathroom break.

I did the same - better than NFLNet and ESPN, but it was a little dry. They could have at least perked up a bit when we picked. C'mon, homer up damnit!
This is me being a cranky old man before I'm old
Greg from LI : 5/1/2015 8:43 am : link
But I liked it more when it wasn't such a big production, and I much preferred the weekend format. Add in the fact that the coverage is awfully and it adds up to having little interest.
Lose a night for 1 pick?
WideRight : 5/1/2015 8:46 am : link
No thanks.
I watched up through the Giants pick with my four year old daughter...
RC02XX : 5/1/2015 8:47 am : link
Even though the picks were fairly "meh" (nothing groundbreaking in terms of blockbuster trades for the #2 pick), it was the first time that my kid wanted to sit down and watch anything football with me. Even though I'm sure her motivation had much to do with the fact that she was allowed to stay up way past her bedtime, I enjoyed answering her questions about who the players were.
nope, watched 5 min when the Giants selected
nyynyg : 5/1/2015 9:00 am : link
that's it, and watching the post pick highlights and then turned the TV.

Congratulations NFL, you ruined the draft with the new format. I used to look forward to draft weekend and watch every minute.
not having it in NY took all the wind out of it
gtt350 : 5/1/2015 9:01 am : link

Perhaps the most boring first round in memory

I agree it was pretty much lacking in pizzaz. But seeing Diehl with the 2 SB rings on his hand and listening to Giants nothing but Giants, Im wondering, how could I be watching anything else?
I thought it was nice of the Chicago crowd...
BamaBlue : 5/1/2015 9:06 am : link
to boo the Comish every time he stepped to the podium. It was very easy to tell when the next selection was going to be announced. Goodell has turned the NFL into an upscale WWF...
I'm waiting for the Joan Rivers special....
Crispino : 5/1/2015 9:10 am : link
where she critiques what outfits the players and their moms wore on the gold carpet. I know Joan is dead, but I still wish I could see it.

What an embarrassment the whole thing has become.
....
Micko : 5/1/2015 9:21 am : link
I watched up to the Giants pick & that was about it.
.....
Micko : 5/1/2015 9:22 am : link
I can't remember. Has the commissioner always been booed going back in time? It's actually pretty embarrassing.
Watched the Rangers game
buford : 5/1/2015 9:24 am : link
and followed some of the draft on the internet.
Didn't watch a second of the draft...
okiegiant : 5/1/2015 9:25 am : link
logged on BBI around 1030 to read about the Giants pick then promptly went to sleep.

checked BBI periodically
TJ : 5/1/2015 9:28 am : link
Much better experience than watching IMO.
Watched the Rangers
Go Terps : 5/1/2015 9:29 am : link
Fucking infuriating. Had the ESPN coverage of the draft on my phone. It meet the usual low standard ESPN sets for all its products. They kept pushing some dog shit music by someone Lion-O or some such. Horrific.

But the worst aspect was Suzy Kolber's inane questions trying to prop up ESPN's brutally sappy background stories on each player. After hearing Laken Tomlinson say the word "Jamaica" for the 15th time I found myself hoping to see a story this morning about him, an eight ball, and a dead hooker.

They just lay the bullshit on so thick.
The draft used to be about football, and only football
Greg from LI : 5/1/2015 9:31 am : link
Now? I don't know what the hell it is.
watched the Rangers, checked MSG during breaks
Victor in CT : 5/1/2015 9:34 am : link
The Giants 1st and 10 show is the only one worth watching
watched both Rangers and Draft
nygiants16 : 5/1/2015 9:35 am : link
Hockey on the big tv, Draft through my xbox one on my smaller tv...

Great to have a man cave with a two tv setup
Not 1 second
Matt M. : 5/1/2015 9:57 am : link
I was working. If I wasn't I still wouldn't have watched. I check in now and again sometimes, but I can't sit and watch for more than a minute. I think the coverage sucks and stretching it out over so many days actually killed my interest instead of adding to it.
A mix of 1st & 10 (Giants.com), Sirius radio and BBI
SwirlingEddie : 5/1/2015 10:05 am : link
No TV coverage for me.

It was rather frustrating to keep hearing "the pick is in" but then wait 5-6 minutes for the announcement. At one point late in the round they were backed up three picks deep. As Goodell said this morning on Mike & Mike, he was ready with the Mariota pick but TV told him to wait. Indeed, it's not really about the football so much any more.

Really? Backed up three picks deep?

Assholes.
No. I have lost faith in TV coverage.
TheBigBlueOne : 5/1/2015 10:18 am : link
I just came onto BBI to look up the draft picks, and that was it.
Watched the Giants.com broadcast.
Dave in Hoboken : 5/1/2015 10:22 am : link
Not like there was anything else going on last night.
wrote a letter to Jerry Reese
blapre74 : 5/1/2015 10:43 am : link
asking to please not draft Duke Johnson, so we don't have to listen to you know who all year.
I only watched the Giants selection in between the Mets game

I was at the Mets game
Hammer : 5/1/2015 11:01 am : link
and spent most of the time after 8 pm paying attention to the draft on my phone.
I rather watch paint dry

Was Deion doing anything
TheBigBlueOne : 5/1/2015 11:18 am : link
wacky? You know that wacky Deion. Always entertaining, like the NFL Network!
Not me.
Mad Mike : 5/1/2015 11:32 am : link
I followed it online until our pick, then stopped. If I'm home I'll probably do the same tonight, though I certainly won't stay home just for that. Actually watching the draft is something which has never appealed to me at all.
Not much
giantsfan227B : 5/1/2015 11:50 am : link
Saw opening, first few picks, Giants pick of course and turned it off. Watched some Mets, Rangers 3rd period and Kentucky Oaks/Derby shows so I lay some $$$ down.
Not much of it.
Red Dog : 5/1/2015 12:55 pm : link
I saw the opening two picks, the Redskins taking Scherff, the Atlanta and GIANTS picks, and shut it off.

Watched a little of the MSG coverage.

Spent most of the evening doing other things.
Not a draft
Big Al : 5/1/2015 1:12 pm : link
or college football person. Don't pay attention to draft stuff so I am clueless about almost all the players. Just interested in who the Giants pick and his position and possibly who are chief rivals pick. Therefore. I get bored watching except when Giants pick. Being the sadistic dick that I am, there is is also some entertainment value of the last player sitting there long after everyone else is gone. Did it happen this year?
Watched the Rangers (Oy!) and the Mets between periods.
Phil in Joisey : 5/1/2015 5:31 pm : link
Got the draft picks off my phone. Why so many people actually watch the draft is beyond belief. Worse than watching paint dry. The draft versus live athletic events? You cannot be serious.
no time
spike : 5/1/2015 10:49 pm : link
but will follow every now and then..
I had plenty of time.
TheBigBlueOne : 5/2/2015 12:12 pm : link
Just preferred watching old VHS tapes of Friends over that ESPN/NFL Network Draft experience.
Nope.

Packing up horse trailer Thursday night so we could head out Friday afternoon after I got out of work.

The vessel is competing in a trail riding event near Sedalia this weekend. Yeah, I know what you're thinking, I didn't know there were trail riding competitions either, until she came home with a blue ribbon last weekend from a different event. (I keep telling her she only won first in her division because she's 7months preggers, but she's too much of a narcissist to be bothered by my taunts.)

So we saw there was another competition this week and decided that not only would it probably be her last chance until the spawn claws his way out, but it would also be nice to bring the grandson and all camp out (that way the boy can muck the stalls so we don't have to)-me, vessel, grandson, and mother in law. The chicks are riding while the boy and I just relax, throw the football around and enjoy the beautiful weather out here. Amazingly my phone is getting a signal. Yay Verizon!
