Looking at Odi, Preston Smith, Eddie Goldman, Carl Davis, Ja'len Collins, Landon Collins.
Eric, out of those listed, do you think any of them slip to round 3. Perhaps Davis or Smith? I'm of the opinion that the Giants don't really need 8 draft picks this year and if the chance to move up (either in the 2nd or 3rd) presents itself, they should take it.
The immediate starter at ss.he is great against the run and has the talent to get better against the pass.It is also a huge need, bigger than dt or de.We already have alot of guys on the dline.Moore,ayers,jpp,eliis,bromley,wynn.Don't want a guy, who's going to sit and not play much. Collins, provides immediate help at a position of need.
Combine the fact that the Giants were terrible up front stopping the run combined with Coughlin's comments yesterday, and I think we are looking at a DL. (and rightfully so...the value should be there too)

agreed....Goldman , Davis , Phillips make a lot of sense.
Preston Smith is a good run stopping DE>...same with Mario Edwards....Za'Darious Smith.
Is PURE Value at this point. The caliber of player now outweighs the risk. You are talking about getting perhaps the best pure pass-rusher in this draft at 40.
Will his seemingly genuinely remorseful comments be enough to sway the Giants?
DE Randy Gregory (depending on Giants personal background check could be lower on list)
DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa
DE/DT Preston Smith
DT Carl Davis (load at Senior Bowl)
ILB Benardrick McKinney
CB Ronald Darby
S Erik Rowe
S Quentin Rollins
WR Devin Smith
DE/DT Henry Anderson
WR Chris Conley
WR Jalean Strong
RB Tevin Coleman (David Wilson part II)
Right eric, but there is quite a logjam on the dline. It would be hard to get playing time.they are pretty much devoid at safety, no experience and all lower rd. Picks. If they don't take a quality safety early, they won't get a good one.
Eric Rowe is a better fit than Collins but
I would Prefer Goldman or Davis DT to go
along side of Hankins . In round 4 I would
go right back to the Defense with a LB .
If none of them are there in round 2 then
Kenricks would be the guy at #40.
Looking at Odi, Preston Smith, Eddie Goldman, Carl Davis, Ja'len Collins, Landon Collins.
I think they want to take Collins, but he'll be gone. Raanan was saying Pitt was trying to move up. Wonder if they're targeting Collins since Polamalu is retired. Hitdog also said the Giants might trade up. I hope not. There is plenty of talent left. Let the draft come to us. If anything, trade down. But if they stay put and Collins is gone then I think it will be Goldman or Davis, in that order.
place awhile ago at Giants headquarters: Kenrick Ellis, 6'4", 346 lbs. I mean, we can always use another big body in Goldman, but it's not so much a priority in my mind. If Gregory is there, grab him. Maybe even consider Dorial Green-Beckham.
With Collins, Odi, Goldman, Rowe and at this point yes even Gregory.
With out history of 2nd round surprises and success, I'm almost thinking it's someone who no one is mentioning. Hankins, Strahan, Osi, Randle, Richburg, Linval Joseph, all guys who have or are panning out and ones no one really had on the radar.
I'm not going to freak out if it's an offensive player, but I'd really prefer we go D in this round. I think our options are going to be stronger on D than O anyway.
Odi, Carl Davis, and Gregory. Those are the 3 I'd really like. But there are a handful of other defenders in the mix that I'd be cool with as well.
Maxx Williams and Devin Smith. I like both of those guys as offensive weapons in the NFL. I think Maxx will surprise people at the next level who overlooked him because of his lack of elite athleticism, and I think Smith is the type of burner who has serious potential if he learns all the subtleties of becoming a professional receiver. Still... I'd have a hard time taking either of them over one of the D prospects.
to me. He is NOT a 4-3 DE. His body is maxed out, he doesn't fit our scheme, and he has huge red flags to boot. He can be a very good player in certain schemes, just not ours. Plus I believe another space-eater up front would help out both our DE's and LB's.
if Eli Harold would fit our scheme. He's a good player.
Very good player. Can bend the arc. But might be best suited for OLB in a 3-4. Not saying he can't be an every down DE, but it's not a given. Even so, he'd be a very good pass rushing DE.
good enough in pass coverage to justify that kind of move. Wouldn't trust him in the seam against the TEs in this division.
He's a SS and he's outstanding in the box. We still need to find our FS but that doesn't mean SS wasn't a huge need. Rolle isn't here anymore. This is how we're replacing him. It's a very good pick.
I love this pick! that means the Giants had two firsts, in effect. Mel Kiper came in his pants. Kiper said he thought Collins was top 16. OMG, a damn good move kudos to Jerry Reese.
Right. That is the best part. Cooper Taylor is more talented than Behre and more experienced so hopefully we start with Collins and Taylor (sounds like our 80s defenses haha).
Someone was working on trading up to get him..probably not as high as Tenn. This is a guy the Giants targeted, so they had to pay...but I'll bet it's worth it!
To make this aggressive move and give up 3 picks...then I like him too!
Only 2 picks as they swap slots in the 2nd. Additionally, the 7th will probably be the one we got from the Broncos and so in my mind we gave up a 4th and got ourselves another guy who many considered a top 10 talent!
were the Steelers? They just lost Troy Polamalu...and here's an article on PFT about them possibly moving up Report: Steelers looking to move up in second round. Collins would have been an attractive target for them.
problem isn't the picks, although I would prefer to keep them to create competition. The problem is that we'll miss out on OO, Davis, Goldman, Smith, etc., all of whom can help us up front. None of those players will be available in the third. We desperately need help on the DL. We couldn't stop the run at all last year. His range is decent, but he gets lost in space way too much. His coverage instincts are lacking, especially ten yards past the LOS. I wouldn't pass on those players for someone like Collins.
1st round talent in the 2nd. I'm really impressed and I really like both picks so far. I always am optimistic with the picks, however, I feel very strongly about these picks. Great job so far... We need to continue to hit home runs though.

I disagree in the sense that their inability to stop the run had as much to do (if not more) with the LBs and safeties as the line. The Giants were a good run defense in 2013 and the main place they stood out was on the second level with Hill and Rolle.
NFLDraftScout.com's Rob Rang and Dane Brugler: "Better working downhill when he can attack the action, but has shown improvement in pass coverage, learning from past mistakes and improving his awareness in the deep half of the field. Fluid in space and displays cornerback traits with his footwork, hips and transitional quickness to line up in man or zone coverage. At his best reading and reacting in the run game, attacking downhill like a physical missile with the technique and power to finish stops without hesitation."
I was a big fan of Preston Smith, ok with the Giants not getting him, but not ok with the Redskins getting him. Looking forward to the Flowers vs Smith battles. Flowers is bigger.
So Washington got BBI's two favorites, Scherff and Smith.
Even though we got a pick back...yes we actually did give up three picks...a 2nd, 4th and 7th. Not even sure why this is an issue since we all agree that the net loss is two picks.
when the Giants had four 2nd round draft choices and five out of the first 53 picks.
They whiffed on the last #2, Greg Lasker at safety, knocked a bloop single with first round pick Eric Dorsey, a four year starter at defensive end. In between they picked Mark Collins, an underrated corner who was an eleven year starter, Pepper Johnson, a ten year starter at linebacker, and Erik Howard, a ten year Giant who came up big in the 2nd Super Bowl season.
First six picks all defense. That's how to turn a defense around, although this is a different era and re-signing three high draft picks after their rookie contracts were up would probably not be possible.
Me too, Odi looks a lot like a rookie Tuck to my eye. He's a bit mechanical, but showed ability to play inside and out on the edge.
Do you know what the Giants think of him?
Only what I posted at 749. Shite draft for 4-3 DEs. Preston Smith also apparently better suited to 3-4, although the Redskins announced him as a LB!
Interesting, looks to be the case. Could also explain why the Giants brought in Selvie. Nothing to write home about at 4-3 DE this year. Amazing how this is becoming a hard position to fill. Nothing but tweeners and 3-4 DEs.
I'd love to see this guy as our pick in the 3rd round. He's a poor man's Aaron Donald. very disruptive and if anyone has watched a lot of OSU football, you have to love the way this guy plays. He reminds me of a young Cullen Jenkins.

This draft is that we fans base our knowledge of what is a value pick and what isn't on the multitude of mock drafts that circulate before the draft and then the draft happens blowing all those ideas about value out of the water. That Morse pick was case in point.

I got him in Round 5 of BBI Mock Draft
Getting near the point that it might make sense...
Morse's name was consistently being brought up as a late riser recently, think it took some time for the consensus to catch up with the idea that the NFL viewed him as a high end c prospect and not a backup tackle prospect.
I always think guys like him get underrated by draft time because they aren't as likely to get sacks in college like the 'tweener speed edge rushers. Yet I think his game translates very well to the NFL and he can be counted on to win his battles enough up front to be a long time starter/contributor to a defensive front seven.
Justin Tuck's sack totals never really stood out - yet we know the kind of player/playmaker he was. Odi strikes me as the same kind of guy.
I must admit I'm just a desk jockey here so what do I know.
Hope not. No love for the defensive line? Going to be a long year. They must be really counting on Ellis and the unproven Bromley to form a nice complement to Hankins. Moore and Ayers are hurt. Wynn is untested. Selvie really a journeyman. JPP came on last year, but he's one player.
that team desperately needed defensive help and Kikaha was simply put a playmaker in college. He's got questions about his game in terms of where he fits, but nothing is stopping this guy from getting to the QB.

Who didn't see that one coming? I say good. Put another knucklehead in their locker room. Did they draft him as a defensive end? I'll be surprised if Gregory is in the NFL in three years. Time will tell.
how we might get to see Flowers vs. Gregory redux. Hoping to see us run right behind Flowers at Gregory. Something tells me Andre wants the ball going in his direction too.
Gregory's character concerns are with his football character...he may be a head case medicating depression/anxiety with weed. Nowhere near hardy and Bryant. Keep in mind...Winston, accused of rape, has "good football character"

My concern is that we have so many needs to lose picks in a trade unless we trade down later
I hear the #Giants are making a huge move to trade up with the #Titans for the No. 33 pick. Being the most aggressive.

And doesnt Spags not differentiate btwn safeties?
Great pick. Filling holes AND adding talent.
The last pick isnt worth much we can regain a pick or 2 by trading down

I wonder who would have taken him before our 8th pick
Duh...we swapped the first one.
Giving up a 4th to take a first round talent....take the slam dunk. Collins is safe as hell
Two players drafted who really look like they will stick.
Saying we gave up three picks is such hyperbole. Just stop!
We swapped and gave up a 4th and a 7th.
Loves Landon Collins tonight.

Odi's hip must be a concern for a lot of teams. He is the most complete 4-3 DE in this draft. Has to be the hips. He could be there in the 3rd.
I think Gregory is a great player, but I don't know where the Giants would play him.
Really? Well I need to go back and reassess my ability to evaluate DEs.
I thought Odi looked great in a three point stance and converted speed to power well. He reminded me of Osi. As always, what do I know.
Thanks JonC, really appreciated your contributions leading up to and throughout the draft.
The true definition of high risk, high reward
Love the trade and the pick.

Well, he would have to fork over his entire rookie salary in fines if he was a Giants. Coughlin's rules would put him in the poor house.
