the guy I would've traded up into the second for. So psyched!!! We needed to improve our defense and we're getting two of my favorite defensive players at a great value!
Great pick though, our first three picks have been guys at positions of need who are both "safe" and have upside. IMO we really could not have done better.
Great pick though, our first three picks have been guys at positions of need who are both "safe" and have upside. IMO we really could not have done better.
With all the talk about Dallas getting a steal with Gregory at 60 we might have gotten the better pass rusher at 74
This draft looks great on paper. I've seen Odi beat the crap out of my USC offensive line this year. If his hip is OK,we got a good one here. A defensive end that can hold the edge and you can kick him inside on passing downs like we did with Tuck. He also runs extremely well.
Real good day(on paper) for the NY Giants!
What a fxking joke. Enjoy Andre Williams for 1 yard. Horse shit
yeah, cause a short back who doesn't run inside is a better pick than a 6'3" 267lb defense end with heavy hands and good feet. If you love the hurricanes that much, stick to rooting for the college game.
is a football player! I've been intrigued by him for the last couple of months. I even floated the idea that he might be considered for our first pick. What a great thing to get him in the third round. If his hips hold up, he will be a very solid player. A risk, but in the third round, worth it. Now I'm excited!

I think we got a guy who can be a three-down DE, and if he can be above average at that he'd be more valuable than all but the elite edge rushers.
Here's to hoping his hips won't slow him down. I've been told some teams have no worries, others have crossed him off.
Yeah, I assumed that's why he fell, because some teams thought there was still a problem with his hip. I can't believe the Giants were one of those teams, or they never would have taken him. But why didn't he go higher to another team that didn't have questions about his hip?
You just have to hope he's not a Kenny Phillips... Â
Fucking love the picks so far. All good. Well done.
O2 is raw as my dick in winter but he is coachable and can play inside and out. His pass rushing needs a ton of work but he's pliable enough to make huge strides.
all the asshats wanted this guy for the Giants wow, is this too good to be true. But (don't you hate the word but) I can't help but recall George Adams, rb from Kentucky who had a bad hip and had to quit. Let's hope he's healthy. Go Jerry just wow!

When looking at this objectively, I don't think that matters. I love the Giants, but don't think their docs are that much more qualified just because of who is signing the checks. Got a first rd talent in the third, so that's where the gamble comes in.
Flowers makes the OL deeper and probably better from Day 1. Collins could start from Day 1, with the personnel on the roster I think he very likely will. And Odi makes the DE rotation deeper and if Moore can come on could be part of a very good DE tandem in a year or two.
RE: just saying the guy is a major risk..I would have taken tank johnson Â
Sherff had problems with his knee and a broken leg, and a hamstring at the combine. the more I think about it, the more I'm happy they took Flowers, and not Sherff. not that they had the chance.

And no it doesn't. DaMonster is still very much in the plan. This adds competition and remember, JPP is just signed for this year, as is Ayers and Selvie. You could have DaMonster over the LT and Odighizuwa over the RT as the starting DEs in two years.
dude - what is jerry reese smoking the past 2 years? Â
lmfao. btw Duke johnson was just taken. by the fucking browns. roflmao. get it? the mistake by the lake. poor Browns hey they have to put up with Miami Hurricane fan :)
How he lasted past the middle of the 2nd round is beyond me.
We don't have a fourth round pick due to the Landon Collins trade but in the 5th round I'm hoping we get a quality LB. Someone that can play special teams but has potential to be a starter due to smarts, hard work and good instincts more-so than measurables. Those guys can be found in the 5th round at times.
problem with the pick. Great pick. If he's healthy. But there's a reason why he slid all the way to #74, since many teams probably had a first or at least a second round grade on him. Is it because most teams had a question about his hip? Are the Giants in the minority on that issue?

Ehhhh, anyone want to tell him he's going to play in NJ? :P
every game that Owa played at UCLA. He was a four-star recruit and had a nice but not great career at UCLA. He hurt a hip and missed an entire season but played really well as a senior. He played left defensive end and always had two defenders against him. He did not have amazing sack numbers but is extremely quick and strong. I think a good third round pick and can probably be taught better pass rush skills.

Great pick and yes. Injury concerns is the only reason for his fall. But great value in the 3rd. I actually thought he went in the 2nd but I guess they were just showing Kiper's best available board with him on it.
like many here would have been happy to get him @40 and even @33 if the Giants thought he wasn't going to make it to them. Even more ecstatic that they still got him and in between picked up LC. Are you kidding me?
Of course, the fourth round is going to suck now, but if we strike gold with our first three (as I truly believe we have) I can live without the 4th and 7th.
Great, great draft, imo. Sorry to the guys who are just bummed, because you're starting this year out the wrong way. No reason every fan shouldn't be coming out of the draft pumped about their team.
Personally I really have to criticize this pick. Â
Has had surgery on his hip twice and missed the entire 2013 season.
If injuries ruin his career, will we say that Reese was "unlucky" to have another high pick lost to injury or that he didn't learn his lesson from all the other prospects lost to injury?
The good stuff: Ranked 52 and 54 overall by Gil Brandt and Mayock. Projected 2nd round by both.
Harsh criticism of his pass rushing skills, but some think he will be better in the pros.

Yes 11 inch hands. He's a monster. Steal of the draft. After listening to KWALL, Sy & JonC I watched everything I could find. Would have taken him at 9 assuming he was healthy.

Well obviously if he can't stay healthy, it's a shame, but what lesson is there to be learned? You can draft healthy players (we have) and lost them to career ending injuries. Todd Gurley has a torn ACL and carried a first-round grade. Sam Bradford has a bad shoulder and still went top five.
If it's going to happen, it's going to happen.
And, players with injury histories have also gone on to have full NFL careers. Some of them were Giants.

With his build, power and hand striking and a little bit Osi with his get off and speed. Robert Ayers may have some competition for that inside DE at DT role, I'm very very excited.

I'm sure the Giants were unhappy with Stray and Osi when they took Justin Tuck in the 3rd too, right? Jeepers Rich, take a Valium and STFU
and still managed to have the 2nd fastest 40yd dash behind Fowler, the 2nd fastest 10 yd split out of all DE's, 2nd best vert leap 39, and 2nd best Long jump 10'7", imagine fully healthy??! His combine numbers where impresses!
How did you get to know so much from the Giants out on the West Coast?
A: It may sound weird, but I just love football. It’s just something that I like to study to get better as a player. When I tell you that the Giants’ defensive line inspired me as a player, it’s no joke. The way they played is really what sparked my thirst for wanting to be better as a d-lineman.
I remember in college watching the year Osi Umenyiora had six sacks against the Philadelphia Eagles. I watched his highlights over and over again. I watched his drills that he did with the d-line coach who coaches guys out of Atlanta. There was a video of him on YouTube and I was watching it over and over again. I was doing every drill that he did. The list goes on and on.
I was watching Michael Strahan and how he plays. I studied everything about the Giants defensive line. I studied Jason Pierre-Paul the year he went off. They know their defensive line.
UCLA played a three-four defense, so Owa was always rushing on the inside. He mainly tried to overpower the guards or tackles against him. But, I have to tell you, he was not as productive as you would hope, I think this was a combination of scheming against him and perhaps his inability to do the job all the time. He did collect many sacks and hurries but could have done better. I know all this from living in the Bay Area and watching UCLA games on Pac 12 network and others.
Three hip surgeries are a big concern. He certainly slipped because of that so there is something to real there. If that is in the past though, this is another good need pick.

But the vitrio and personal attacks on BBI have reached a disturbing level. The lack of social skills demonstrated by some people is just amazing.
his surgeries were in 2013 and he played a full year in 2014 with no problems, I have little to no concerns..
Bb56 - could you elaborate? In fact, I suggest you start a new thread with your thoughts on Odi's hip problems.
I wrote up a thread on Odi's injury history back in March. I wanted to bump it due to its relevance, but you can no longer do that with archived threads on BBI.
This time yesterday I said that if the Giants first two picks were Flowers and Odi I would be ecstatic. To get him in the 3rd is unbelievable. This could be Justin Tuck part 2. I love this draft.
about Odighizuwa is he was used almost exclusively as a 34DE at UCLA. Nobody really has any idea how good he can be as a 43DE, which is definitely his best position.
I watched an special on the 05 draft with some stuff on Tuck dropping and I thought of Odi. The big mystery is the hip. IMO, that can be the only reason Odi (like Tuck and his knee) dropped to round 3.
Odi, if he stays healthy, will be one of the best players in this draft and a 3rd round steal.
At the end of this past season, he was kicking ass with a complete game and versatility that will work in the NFL. He plays hard and will be an instant fan favorite.
For me, he's a bigger and faster Trent Cole. Plays his ass off. He's a great fit for the NYG. Spags will use him like he used Tuck and move him inside on passing downs. He will have an impact on passing downs from the inside. I have no doubt about this.
He also has a lot of potential as an edge rusher because of his quickness and power. He gets off the ball fast and Odi is extremely powerful with strong hands.
He will be very productive as a rookie. They will find a role for him early on. I expect him to be one of the top defensive players from this draft.
Love the pick. Love the player. Thrilled he is on the NYG. Getting the OL early in round 1 and now Odi, makes the draft for me.
At the SR Bowl, he kicked ass in one on one pass rush drills against the top players there.
He explodes with power. He can spin back inside. He plays hard. Long arms. Huge hands. And a truly elite athlete at 270 lbs. He'll give us a pass rush from inside and at DE.
Agreed I wanted Odi in the 2nd and I wasn't the biggest fan of the Collins pick because i wanted Odi or Preston Smith there. To get Odi in the 3rd makes me absolutely fine with the Collins pick. Anything that the Giants do today is just gravy at this point.
With Odi added and the past draft choices over the last 2 years. What kind of potential does this line have w/ Odi, JPP, Hankins, and Moore? Do you feel Moore and Hankins have made good progress over the last 2 years?
Has it all together. I'll take another year like last year from him. Moore still has a lot of work to do vs the run. He looks to me like a situational pass rusher which is fine.
I like Odi to be the starter as a rookie. He's a beast vs the run. Slide him inside on some passing downs.
Our run D will be much better with Odi and Ellis.
One guy who could be key is Bromley. We spent a 3rd on him. We need to see what he has next season. Wouldn't it be great if Bromley steps up next season?
he's been working hard in the off season and he seems to know exactly what he needs to do to get better. we knew coming in that pass-rushing was his strength - I see know reason to think he won't be able to bring up his run stopping skills.
and I think Ellis will be better in a 4-3, he's going to be a lot harder to block, especially next to Hankins
That's what I love about all these picks, they all help our run game in some way. Flowers is a run blocking behemoth. Collins is a 228lb powerhouse at the in-the box safety position. And Odi projects as a strong run-stuffing DE who can kick it inside at times.
Odi is a guy I would've been happy at 9 if there was no hip issue. He's a guy that I would've loved at 40. To get him in the 3rd round is awesome. I hope his hip is ok, because if he's healthy our DL just got a lot better.
He's got the skillset and physical gifts to make it happen, loves the game, and is relentless. Complete two-way end who played 3-4 DE in college, just wait until he's coached up and plugged into a 4-3.
Getting a quality DE from this draft, in the 3rd, is a big win. NYG ripped up the first three rounds.
This just makes the pick even sweeter. Someone put this man on suicide watch. Take away the shoelaces.
What's not to like?
Awwww. Somebody's butt hurt because they didnt take Miami's RB.
It sure is...great night for Jerry and company.
I love the pick. Great looking athlete.
We already took a Miami Hurricane with the 9th overall pick, aren't you happy you spoiled brat?
Welcome to NY Odi!
I hope our reporters do a good job asking Tom and Jerry about his hip issues/
Hahaha. This alone makes it a good pick because this idiot has no fucking clue.
With all the talk about Dallas getting a steal with Gregory at 60 we might have gotten the better pass rusher at 74

If Odi's pans out you will need to change your username to Osi Odi Osi Odi Oyoyoy
Getting a quality DE from this draft, in the 3rd, is a big win. NYG ripped up the first three rounds.
