Thought for sure we would have atleast seen a blocking TE picked late to complement Larry Donnel. I guess we only have so many picks but I won't be thrilled seeing another trio of Robinson, Fells and Donnel.
In other words, if the Giants drafted a TE and not a second OL, you'd be asking, anyone surprised we didn't draft a second OL?
Or you may say, are you surprised we didn't draft a DL?
Thats why I said I guess we have only so many picks. O line to me seems ok with a healthy Pugh, Flowers, Richburg.. It really all depends on what kind of Beatty shows up next year.
I thought some of our young TE's showed some real promise last YR
But it seems like they're content to go with Donnell and Fells this year, and, as Eric said earlier, they have hope for Cunningham, so we'll see what he can do this summer. Personally, I have no hope for Robinson.
Another thing to consider is that next year's UFA TE market favors the buyer, and we'll have money to spend.
And it was a bad year for TEs (as usual since college teams are not producing many of them anymore).
I think we could have gotten the TE from UDel in round 5, and signed the back we picked in round 5 as a UDFA. we were the only ones to bring him in for a visit, i think he would have been ours anyway.
Target a blocking TE on the third day to help the running game.
Reb, I think the idea of a blocking TE is absurd. If you really want a blocking TE, just place another tackle out there. If we are talking about a Howard Cross level blocker and therefore a bad hands receiver, just go with the extra olineman. You are not try to fool anyone. Find one of the extra tackles that can halfass catch, give him an eligible number and put him in.
Flowers is a huge road grader but is also 6' 6", works hard, is strong and well lets hope he has hands.
I mean, a big guy like that can step out and catch a 2 yard pass for a TD? Or am I kidding myself? I can DREAM!
But yes, goal line TE's aren't really necessary BUT they are necessary in an offense to mix up blocking and receiving. I personally think both TE Donnell and Robinson will be greatly improved and will challenge teams more this year than maybe in any year under the TC reign.
Maybe TE J. Cunningham beats out Fells? Lets hope we have raw, cheap talent.

It was a bad class but they were going late we could have snagged one to compete.
There are only a few elite Qbs in the NFL and we have one but can't get a bloody decent TE in this program to save our lives.
