NFT: Spurs-Clippers Game 7

dpinzow : 5/2/2015 10:43 pm
Epic 4th quarter. Paul might have hit the game-winner which was a really difficult shot, almost a prayer. Paul is literally playing on one leg, almost Isiah 1988-like
Epic??
FatMan in Charlotte : 5/2/2015 10:46 pm : link
If you mean having a game pretty much decided with suspect whistles than I guess that's what passes for epic in the NBA.
And the Spurs are gone
dpinzow : 5/2/2015 10:46 pm : link
the playoffs just opened up dramatically and it is literally a crapshoot as to who will win. Golden State benefits the most IMO and they have the home court but as long as LeBron is still alive I can't bet against him

I know the NBA has its issues with the refs but this was still an all-time playoff game

In all honesty, its a shame the refs became a part of it, because the series had the potential to be epic. But Rivers cried, and cried, and cried throughout the series - and the refs game them every call for 2 games. Downright disgusting.

The series..
FatMan in Charlotte : 5/2/2015 10:49 pm : link
was epic for 5 games. Then it felt like the Lakers-Kings from several years ago where the series was handed to the Clippers.
Uh, oh, this Popovich presser
dpinzow : 5/2/2015 10:52 pm : link
is going to be awesome too
I can't take Steve Ballmer anymore.

He's on camera every 30 seconds. Scary dude.
how does Chris Paul
GentleGiant : 5/2/2015 11:16 pm : link
hold his hamstring on every shot early in the game then not so much as limp in the 4th qtr? I've had hampstring strains and pulls, they don't just go away without rest, they get worse the more I use them.
the Warriors indeed benefit
santacruzom : 5/2/2015 11:25 pm : link
They have a much better shot against the Clippers than the Spurs.
Handed to the clippers?
KWALL2 : 5/3/2015 12:40 am : link
What a fucking joke.

Making that comment even worse was the "after game 5" mention when game 5 had several obvious calls go against LA. these were not 50-50 calls that al slow mom review has fans bitching about.

Game 5 was full of outrageously bad calls against LA that didn't require a review such as the Griffin travel and Barnes goaltend. These caps handed points to SA and changed the series.
Yes it was handed to them
dep026 : 5/3/2015 12:49 am : link
I guess Duncan fouled Paul after Paul clearly flopped to the floor. Fuckign dumbass.

Yeah that Duncan foul on that Paul flop sure was 50-50 where everyone and their mother knew the referee got it wrong, and is a call that is NEVER made at the end of the game.

Good lord.
But
KWALL2 : 5/3/2015 1:13 am : link
The call on the next possession against Reddick on Duncan was on the money? Got it.

You cant put a forearm into someone's body. Its a foul. Unlike where Tim Duncan made ZERO contract. And the ref rewarded a flop. I didnt see Duncan flop around like a bitch, did you?

The fact is that you still cant admit the call on Duncan was BS shows you arent a fan. It shows that you finally dusted your t-shirt off and come off as a die hard. Pathetic.
How many steps
MookGiants : 5/3/2015 2:15 am : link
did Chris Paul take on his end of 3rd quarter three?

7 or 9?

The game was ruined by the officials, as it often is in the NBA.

Nice job by the official time keeper, too. Nothing shady there

Paul is a flopping bitch. Fuck him

I just counted 14, which means he must have been taking some pretty long strides to get that far...

...oh wait, you mean after he stopped dribbling? Two.

I DVR'd the game, added a half hour extension, and I STILL didn't get the final two minutes. What the hell TNT?

agree with all…..amazing that the nab still uses home clock operators and doesn't have an impartial person in charge of the clock and buzzer. That was as blatant as it comes and completely showed the clips what the spurs were going to run. Horeshit game and ruined what could have been a great game 7
It was a great game 7 regardless of the officiating.
shockeyisthebest8056 : 5/3/2015 3:01 pm : link
Everyone at my Dad's house enjoyed it infinitely more than the fight. Chris Paul had an all-time great performance considering his leg.

Kawhi Leonard was GOD-awful. The Spurs' domination of the offensive glass in the 4th quarter was ridiculous.
Chris Paul needed that moment
Osi Osi Osi OyOyOy : 5/3/2015 3:07 pm : link
it was a special performance from him. Clips and Spurs were arguably the 2nd and 3rd best teams in the league this year, unfortunate that the Spurs are eliminated in the 1st round because of the Conference imbalance and stupid seeding.

It was only the 1st round, but this was a Conference Finals level series and Paul dragged them to the W at the end. Good for him.

Clips vs. Rockets will be fun. Clips have a better starting 5 but the Rockets have the deeper bench. Hopefully Harden brings it because we'll need him.

Spurs were probably the only team that could stop a healthy Warriors squad. Now I'd be shocked if anyone but the Warriors advanced into the Finals. God-Mode LeBron is pretty much the only thing that could stop the Warriors this year imo.
The refs
KWALL2 : 5/3/2015 5:42 pm : link
handed the series and disguised their intentions with calls such as the foul on Ginobili 75 foot 3 attempt. Right before the 4th quarter of game 7 they decided to give SA 3 points.

This was not one of those 50-50 calls where a bad angle or contact happens that you don't see. The refs gave them 3 shots on a play that is NEVER called.

Similar to the travel call on Griffin that is NEVER called (because he didn't walk and did dribble the ball).

SA wasn't called for one 3 second violation the entire series. In one qtr of game 5, LA got called for 2 (And both were BS and not longer than 3).

Paul got a 4th qtr T in game 5 for throwing the ball to the ref. He threw it a little too hard? Big F'N deal. That's a one point gift to SA.

THe moving picks in this series? Edge to SA. They got more of those calls here including the weak one against Jordan on a made 3 yesterday.

On Pauls jumper yesterday, Duncan hit his hand after the shot but landed under the jump shooter. He didn't let him land. They call that now. I don't like the change they made with that call a couple of years ago. (BTW, SA players such as Ginobili have mastered getting this call).

What happened on the next possession? Duncan's shot was blocked by Barnes and they called a touch foul on Reddick. The idiots crying about the Paul foul dismiss the next call that goes there way.

Anybody saying the refs handed this game or series to LA is a clown.

See this is why I find it hard to believe that you are a fan of the clippers. I dont know how many things you got wrong on this that it is scary. So this is why dont even dare talk basketball with me cause you dont know shit.

1. First off Manu was fouled while heaving the attempt. Its a silly rule, but tell me what Manu was doing before he was fouled. He was shooting. And next, he didnt make all 3 free throws. He made 2. And if not for the ref calling that foul, CP3 doesnt get a chance to throw a hail mary bank shot in at the buzzer (and as Mook took note that he took 7 steps before shooting.) So because of the officials instead of being tied or down 2-3 with SA taking the last shot. They were actually winning after 3. So the refs didnt do shit for SA there, so get your facts straight.

2. Paul got a T for throwing the ball to the refs. Thats a no-no now. Its a rule. The announcers went over this extensively.

3. Blake Griffin didnt set one legal screen the entire series. So dont even think that SA was the only setting illegal screens.

4. Hitting the hand after a shot is never called and I dont believe is even a foul. You have to hit the wrist. And the reason why Paul didnt have a place to land is because he flopped like a bitch, like he always does. Not ONE person outside of you hsa said that was a foul on Duncan because it wasnt even close to a foul. Duncan was most definitely foul as Reddick had a forearm on his waist as he went to shoot, which is ALWAYS called.

Anyone who thinks the refs played no part of LAC wins in the last two games (remember Crawfords 6 step walk with under 10 seconds to go right next to ref? Of course you wouldnt) doesnt know his ass from a basketball.....

Which you have already proven.

Really? Every screen he set was illegal the entire series?

That's the kind of argument someone makes when he's working backward from a conclusion he's determined to have.

Then explain what he was doing when he got fouled. Dribbling? Passing? Holding it? No he made a heads up play knowing rivers was fouling him. Again I said it was silly, but instead of blowing smoke up someone's ass.... try to explain something for once that makes sense... you "hardcore" clippe4s fan.

But usually, in a debate between someone who is basically saying a team would have lost a series if the refs hadn't handed it to them and someone saying that isn't true, the bullshit is almost always delivered by the first party.

I proved you wrong on 5 different points, and you still didnt answer me to what Manu was doing when he got fouled. Maybe its because you know shit about basketball?

You made yourself look like a clown when describing Howard earlier this week, and you are proving you dont know shit on this topic either. Maybe its time to wait another 20 years to talk basketball.

So are you saying the foul on Duncan didnt give them a direct advantage of winning the game/series?

Are you saying that Crawford didnt walk at the end of game 6 where it would have given SA a chance to tie or win the game?

Those plays are so critical that it basically ended the series. And both were easy calls to make. Both of them right in front of the officials. And both went LAC way, one game after Doc and Paul cried for 2 days.

I don't know, maybe. I have to be honest, I generally don't have a terribly detailed memory of this team A's fouls vs that team B's fouls because I'm generally not predisposed to believe that if team A wins a series, it must have been because they got all the calls.

I mean if it's really, really bad, like the notorious Kings/Lakers game 6 where the FT disparity and odd calls seemed egregious, I'll probably remember. But in this case, I'm pretty sure that if I were motivated to watch all the games again I'd find some iffy calls the Spurs benefited from too.
