Peter King MMQB: Giants fans should be thrilled

Jints in Carolina : 5/3/2015 6:35 am
15. I think Giants fans should be thrilled with their team’s draft. First-round guard Ereck Flowers, second-round safety Landon Collins and third-round defensive end Owamagbe Odighizuwa fill the team’s three biggest areas of need.

Based on opinions of those who I respect

like Mayock, Cosell, Kirwin, Polian et al, I am ecstatic over what we were able to do where it mostly counted, imo..
Maybe he's lke Erik Williams

A big nasty type

I know the bench press doesn't mean much on the football field yet 37 reps at that arm length is pretty unique. I wonder how much more power throughout his frame he can deliver to opponents.
I'm hoping La'el Collins is cleared

and he opts to rejoin OBJ..

:)
Totally bingo imo and my point for years:

2. I think for NFL analysts and fans, grading a team’s draft is a lot like breaking down a team’s preseason. Everyone acknowledges it’s a frivolous act, but many still can’t help but engage in it. I know it’s only the preseason, and we shouldn’t take much away from it, BUT….and then the speaker proceeds to do exactly what he’s just acknowledged is unwise. I Know you can’t accurately grade a draft until at least three years later, BUT…and here comes the draft grade.

Exactly. 37 reps at age 21 with that arm length is well sick strong! There is no doubt in my mind that he'll need this year to learn the NFL style of what it takes to be an NFL Offensive Tackle.

I see Flowers learning this year and working his way into a starting role as an injury will undoubtedly take place (they always do). If he did win the starting RT job it would be with the TE tied to his hip to help him in protection. Beatty can hold his own in most pass protection sets and will need to early on.

Flowers will likely be a 3rd and 1 yard OT, goal line OT, special teams OT. He'll learn this year and get better and better.

SS Collins starts day 1. He helps our run defense immensely. He is better in short coverage than pundits think. He joins Cooper Taylor to form a big set of safeties who can both run and hit. We'll get beat up early due to their youth, inexperience and the fact that both are playing in a new defense along with everyone else BUT if we can win those first 3 games by outscoring teams we'll come together on defense and hold our own their.

DE Owa O will help on specials day 1. He will learn quickly, I think, and by next year he'll replace DE Ayers as far as playing time goes. I am really hoping MOORE, who is the same age, wins the starting DE job and rotates with Ayers, Selvie. Owa can learn this year but get on the field game day due to special teams play.
doesn't really sound like he's paying attention

First-round guard Ereck Flowers
I would be very, very surprised

if Flowers doesn't start the season as our starting RT. He needs technique work, sure, but he should be on the field from the get go.

Hey '56! :) Been a busy man... new position at my job, new girlfriend... and trying to post less, think more. Can't wait for this season to start though!
I think Flowers starts at G
LakeGeorgeGiant : 5/3/2015 9:31 am : link
for the time being.

Collins clearly will start right out of the gate.

If Odi does well in camp he could see some rotational play or at least situational play imo.
If Flowers
Doomster : 5/3/2015 9:36 am : link
doesn't start day 1, he shouldn't have been drafted....
Or Odi could leapfrog
ColHowPepper : 5/3/2015 10:22 am : link
some of the DL incumbents by mid-season?
I would just start Flowers and Collins and roll the dice
PatersonPlank : 5/3/2015 10:30 am : link
Flowers at either G or T (depending how things work out in preseason and camp), and Collins at SS.

That's my football prayer..Hopefully, he and OBJ were really tight..:)
If Collins is cleared and signs with the Giants
Jay on the Island : 5/3/2015 10:50 am : link
this has the making of one of the best drafts/UDFA in franchise history. The OL would have a young core of Flowers, Richburg, Pugh, and Collins. I think Collins is likelier to sign with a team that is desperate for OL help like Carolina, Oakland, Tennessee, etc. Carolina especially needs help at both OT and G and he could likely start at LT there which would give him the biggest chance and cashing in after his rookie deal expires.
