Or not since Reese and the FO continually hold onto the notion they only select BPA?
Would there have been a pressing need to trade up for Landon Collins to play SS or would they have been more comfortable letting Berhe/Taylor duke it out as they both seem like more in the box safeties.
Would the FO have reached for Thompson in the 5th hoping to get that "rangy" FS instead of truly going BPA?
Did the Giants let how Free Agency turn out dictate their draft? Most good teams utilize the draft planning years in advance rather than fill immediate holes, can Reese actually hold onto that claim?
this was the most needs-driven draft that I can remember.
so yes, it would have gone differently.
The one thing I think would've gone differently is we probably aren't so aggressive to trade up in round 2. I think they either sit at pick #40 or if Landon Collins slid maybe they move up a couple spots (opposed to all the way up) because they clearly love the kid - but Reese even said considering the safety situation that they felt the right move was to aggressively move up.
Now Collins next to McCourty would have been an awesome tandem when you look at their skillsets - and they are really, really high on Collins obviously, so I think he very well would've been the pick, but likely would've been a little less aggressive in trading up.
IMO they also probably either don't sign Josh Gordy, or only grab 1 safety in the draft (not two). Would've definitely changed our mindset at the position, but doesn't mean we necessarily come away with different players if somehow Collins was still there they take him.

with two virtual unknowns..I don't think the draft would have gone any differently

Except there was a lot of talk that the Steelers were hot on the heels of Collins..A few other teams supposedly were as well..We couldn't take the chance imo
60 receptions 6 tds first year.
If he happened to fall to them in the 2nd they might have still taken him, but I don't see them trading up to do it.
Both Reese and Ross have said repeatedly that the Giants factor in need in addition to BPA when making their selection. Unless the next player available is all-world (e.g. Lawrence Taylor), need is a component, and rightly so IMO.
