We heard similar stuff about Hank while he was out. "Career might be over.. might be at high risk for strokes, etc"
A lot of it turned out to be bogus.
The stroke thing came from Lundqvist himself. The career might be over stuff came from fans worrying - there was never a source, and the beat reporters said there was no career risk the day he was diagnosed.
The overall point is that tons of misinformation gets thrown around. I'm glad the info was shared but I can't take 2nd/3rd hand stuff as fact until it comes from a more reliable source.
But this is different than the Lundqvist situation where it was strictly fans speculating about the severity of the injury rather than people claiming information.
I can't fathom though if he really had a fractured skull that the Rangers wouldn't just come out and say he's out for the year. I did see that fulltilt link yesterday, but it's all speculation.
IIRC, he was on the "Beginnings" for Zuccarello and they grew up together playing hockey in Norway. So of anything that's come out so far, I'd be inclined to think he's at least got some sort of idea what's going on.
but i'm not buying it. If he had a fractured skull or loss of motor skills, the team or Zuccs family would have come out and said something.
He might very well be done for the season, no idea... but I seriously doubt his career is in jeopardy.
Just such a senseless, preventable fucking injury. People mention helmets above but he took a direct shot with a puck in an exposed earhole. Its criminal that the NHL doesn't do more to protect its players. And you would think by now the Rangers would be driving this research by now too - from losing Staal for the year to an eye injury, to Hank getting hit in the neck because his helmet came off waaay too fucking easily, to Sauer's career ending because his helmet wasn't on right... you've gotta be fucking kidding me. Start protecting your billion dollar enterprise goddamnit.

HIPPA - without his consent nobody can say anything. He could be on close supervision due to swelling, blood thinners to prevent a clot, etc. You're not going to get updates on those conditions b/c it's ongoing and if this was just a concussion you woukd likely have an update.
also, if this injury is serious it becomes the story. Rangers players will be peppered with questions regarding Zucs more than the game while the media would be mentioning it and writing about it non-stop.
so you really think Zuccs has put a gag order on everyone?
"Hippa" - yeah ok... anyway, back to the conversation.
If his season was definitely over, the team would have brought some of the kids up during the week long break before the Caps series to get as much practice as possible with their new teammates, etc.
And of all the pitchers struck by baseballs at 100mph+ ... the most serious one that I know of was Brandon McCarthy... who had to have surgery, missed a year, but has been back in the big leagues for 2 years now.
I just find it very hard to believe a puck shot to the ear (which the helmet probably absorbed at least some of the blow) would cause someone permanent motor injury. It would be this team's Luck ... don't get me wrong... but its just very hard to believe.

Nah, its actually more of a story because the Rangers don't say anything. Were the Habs peppered with non-stop questions about Carey Price last ECF? No.
The only story here is that the NHL and Bettman should be sued for willful negligence towards player safety. It's absolutely disgusting that something like this could have happened.
the Rangers pull out all the stops to get Buch over here this summer if there was risk Zuccs career was over.
The actions of the franchise the past week just aren't supporting this worst case scenario rumor.
Right, the actions don't support a worst case scenario for Zucc.
With that said, it's not like a concussion (which seems to be the optimistic scenario) is anything the team could pretend to have certainty over either (Sauer comes to mind).
I mean i'm at a loss for words. The Rangers aren't saying anything because they are worried about Zuccs suing them apparently.
Is this the same guy that said the NHL (Winter Classic) was test running something for the NFL?
Kids - no, that's not the point. It's not a matter of suing as much as it's a matter of not being able to make an announcment during ongoing supervision. This is a head injury and docs do not convey info to anybody without consent nor can Zuks himself provide an explanation during on going supervision.

True. It's also why I fell out of my chair when I read someone post here a week ago that we'd be lucky if Zuccs had a concussion rather than a broken jaw. The former is career threatening - the latter can be played with and fully recovers in 4-5 weeks.
I know you don''t understand much and need some Zuks info to fill that empty schedule but you can learn at your own pace. You may not understand head injuries and obviously guessed wrong on a concussion just as you guessed wrong on claims Flores is a natural SS but hang in there. You will get one right. Just try not to meltdown kid.
is too stupid to realize that when an athlete signs a professional contract they also sign a hippa waiver.
Mook too smart to realize without a diagnosis there is nothing to report. Apparently he hasn't followed along nor does he understand the topic in the first place.

If you and others want the Rangers to make announcement of Zuks prior to diagnosis or make a false diagnosis that's your business but not the way it works. An upper body injury is what you have and if the speculation is too much to handle, that's too bad. Without a diagnosis the Rangers cannot make up a story simply b/c a few adults with kids schedules needs news so they can post about it.

You seem completely unaware of your own posts. Mook's evaluation seems generous at this point.

MYSTERY AROUND SEVERITY OF MATS ZUCCARELLO INJURY LEADING TO WILD SPECULATION - ( New Window )
Not really speculation when someone is claiming information from a source. Speculating is what we're with that information.
You're welcome for today's lesson.
Also, the player quoted in the link is wrong because Zucc did suffer a concussion before.

to be fair, the guy said he didn't think, not that he didn't.

Don't think we don't appreciate the irony.

(P.S... it's HIPAA. If you're going to make some completely ridiculous/incorrect claim, at least get that much right... )
Hope Zuccs gets through it.
I'll be here all week. Don't forget to tip your waitress
