I’m absolutely convinced that Coughlin and Gilbride preferred RB’s 220+ for their offense. Admittedly, Bradshaw was lighter than that, but probably heavier than his listed playing weight, and he certainly didn’t play lighter. And Tiki put on around 15 to 20 pounds when Coughlin arrived, and acknowledged that he changed at the direction of Coughlin.
I know that Vereen isn’t just a receiving threat, but neither is he a pounder. And hunt obviously isn’t. I wonder if the addition of two lighter RB’s with fine receiving skills indicate some added enhancements under McAdoo’s direction?
I wasn't suggesting that they plan on abandoning bigger RB's, but rather on adding new roles for the guys I mentioned.
I hope they don't just see him as a change of pace, but actually try and get the ball in has hands on the screen, wheel routes, even lined up wide out like the Pats used him (or even at a right tackle, LOL) - with an occasional shot gun draw just to piss people off
pj, those are typically change of pace plays.
Now if they sign Doug Martin, I would say they are changing their philosophy.
Neither is Vereen. They're almost exactly the same size.

That's my point in that I don't see any new or trend or shifting of preferences.
In addition to his 52 receptions, with an 8.something ypc. for a RB with 50+ catches, that's good, it was a higher ypc than Matt Forte (on half the receptions).
So, my point is the Giants can get really creative with their formations and use some deception - run or pass out of any formation. just make it harder on the defense.
Some of you laugh, but I am absolutely looking forward to seeing this offense with Eli, Beckham, Vereen, a better line, a disciplined Randle, a healthy Jennings, a more sure handed Donnell, and god willing a healthy Cruz.
it has the potential to be the best offense of Eli's career if people stay healthy.
Hunt? He's so small and kinda unlikely to make the team that it's hard to see him being a part of any offensive changes in focus. He probably isn't an NFL player. But it will be fun to see him in preseason.
I go into every year thinking that and wind up disappointed. Hope you're right but at this point I just expect it.
Right, I don't think a UDFA signing signifies anything to anything. But I do think the Vereen signing means we plan on using running backs as receivers more often than in the past.
I think the last RB spot will come down to Darkwa vs. Hunt. We apparently really liked Hunt through the process and he has home run hitter type ability. His key will be learning how to block/pick up a blitz effectively during training camp. If he can't do that, he won't make the team.
Hunt is a better all purpose back PROSPECT than Darkwa or Ogbannaya, IMO.
Good to great hands, also.
They like to have both available, IMO. Keeps the D off balance a little.
