Another Saban quote on Collins

Headhunter : 5/4/2015 2:15 pm
If posted will delete

"I see this happen just about every year in the draft where there's something that gets put out there about somebody, and it like spreads like wild fire through every team as if they know something that we don't know," Saban continued. "The bottom line is that's why guys get drafted high and they're not very good and other guys that are really, really good players like Landon Collins, who has been very productive, has great speed, great size, very physical player, has got really good ball skills, can play in the deep part of the field. For a safety, he's a good man-to-man player and can match up on some people because of his size and speed."
Sure wish I could trust what Saban says

In fact though Saban is absolutely right.

The "in the box" safety label is mostly false, in that he played deep more often than in the box, and mostly,he was pretty darn good at it.

The same label was affixed to Kenny Phillips unfairly too, his sr year,as Miami desperately needed him more closer to the LOS.

Although Reese is not claiming they graded Collins as a top 15 pick, like he said about KP. He did call Collins a "first row" guy, which for him means first round in that context.
It's not like being taken 33rd overall, as a safety, is an insult.

I understand that it was a goal for Collins and that his coach may feel he's better than some DBs taken ahead of him, but this isn't Aaron Rodgers or Dan Marino falling. It's not even Mario Manningham falling to the 3rd.
Am I the only one who isn't worried if Collins is indeed an

"in the box" safety? With the passing game as potent as it is these days, teams more often than ever find themselves with more than four defensive backs on the field. You're going to need players in your secondary that can step up and stuff the run the way a good linebacker would. If he winds up an average cover safety and elite run stopper, I think we certainly got our money's worth with pick #33.

on what Saban says. He is a master recruiter who uses the fact that so many Alabama players go to the NFL as a tool. How many of them have worked out since they were drafted from all his national championship teams ? Do not know myself.
If true

Then the Giants were extremely lucky that he fell.
He fills a huge hole on the roster.
It will be nice for a change

to have a Secondary guy who will cause other teams to "head swivel."
He requested number 26 to honor Sean Taylor

Taylor could be beaten, but he gave the Defense it's personality. Sean Taylor was in the heads of every offensive player that ventured downfield. Guys like him, Reed, Lott, Bob Sanders are the punishers
