If the draft was still the old format do Giants get Collins?

steve in ky : 5/4/2015 9:03 pm
I wonder if the time spanning from one night to the next helped make it happen? It sounds like when they saw him still sitting there after round one they decisively made the trade up. But who knows how long that process took working it out with the Titans? I wonder if rounds one and two were still happing consecutively in real time does it work out?

It would be an interesting question to be asked of Reese.
Good question

That extra year for a 1st rounder likley made it very difficult to move back into the first round on day 1 yet all that time may have played a roll on day 2 with one less year under control .
That's a great question that

We will never find out, although I personally don't think a trade would've been worked out in that situation

Yeah your right we probably will never know but it sure would be interesting to hear him asked the question.
This guy was thrown under the bus before rnd 1

Hard to imagine it turning out differently- regardless of draft format.

I think the OP meant Landon.

the same thing. WOndered if the extra day to think about it gave them the idea to try and trade up.
I doubt they needed an extra day

to notice Landon Collins was still available at the start of round 2. Seriously? He was likely a candidate for several teams from 15-32, so far as his talent level goes...
No they don't get Collins under old format IMO

Reese said they made a lot of calls at the end of the first round and more in Friday morning. Logic says they wouldn't of had the time to pull it off
It's the extra year of control under the new format
Giants2012 : 5/5/2015 7:51 am : link
1st Rounder = 5 years including option
2nd Rounder = 4 years including option

and the salaries are less under the new format
Giants2012 : 5/5/2015 7:54 am : link
The cost is much higher b/c you buy that extra year of paying thr player less.
took calls

from reese both days to get it done seams like they may not have got it done under a much tighter time scale like the old draft format

i think the league hoped the new format would encourage trades and add a bit more drama to it,would the giants have offered both of those picks if they were on the clock too or just the one? we will never know now
Definitely a great point

and a reason for me to warm up to this format. LC might not be a Giant otherwise.

I thought this was a great article on Landon's bad day at the draft...but in the end, he found a home for sure with the Giants. I think this guy is going to be a game changer for us on D.
How Landon Collins made a heartbreaking exit from the first round of the NFL draft - ( New Window )

Headhunter, Yeah that was basically my take on it and made me wonder about it to begin with.
Hard to say...

It depends on how far he continued to fall and at what point the Giants began making calls to engineer a trade. It could've turned out that the Giants landed him with the 35th pick instead of the 33rd and only had to give up a 4th round pick instead of a 4th and 7th.
